The Korea Water Resources Corporation(KOWACO) proposed bidding for an alternative design for Hwabuk Multi-purpose Dam in March of 2004. The site is located in Hakseong-ri, Goro-myeon, Gunwi-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do and has adrainage area of $87.52km^2$. The purpose of this project is to establish an environmentally friendly plan for minimizing the damage that was caused by the construction of the Hwabuk Multi-purpose Dam. The design principle of KOWACO was the restoration of the natural environment, a harmonious landscape, and the creation of a space of regional and local culture. The basic concept of this project involves an ecological-restoration axis and a functional-connection axis. The site is divided into four spaces: (1) the space of memory and symbol, (2) the space of nature and ecology, (3) the space of regional and local culture, and (4) the space of the regional economy. There are four sub-spaces in the space of memory and symbol: the track forest, the time forest, the memory room, and the sun plaza. There are three sub-spaces in the space of nature and ecology: the habitat of aquatic birds, the wind forest, and the eco-corridor. There are five themed parks in the space of regional and local culture: the culture and relic room, the wildflower garden, the ecological pond, the insect observation park, and the pyogo maze. There are three areas in the space of the regional economy: the forest pension, the waterside pension, and the community center, as Dungdungi village was reorganized to serve as a lodging complex. These themed parks, working together, can offer an effective space for nature, culture, rest, and experience.

As the products such as HDD, Notebook, PDA, and Mobile Phone become smaller and thinner, the radius of threads as well as holes for assembling those products become smaller, even down to 1mm. To produce such small holes and thread efficiently, multi tapping is highly necessitated. However the multi tapping characteristics is not well known because its complicated cutting mechanism and thus the quality of the produced holes and threads is not well studied yet. In this paper, experiments have been conducted for small-radius threads using M2 and M2.6 and M3 cold forming tap to investigate multi tapping process using several useful signal such as torque and Z-axis encoder pulse. The surface and profile of the machined threads have been magnified and observed through a SEM.

Since robot industry growing, the machine that could move with multi-DOF has been studied in many industrial fields. Spherical motor is one of the multi-DOF machine that doesn't need gear for multi-DOF motion. Unlike conventional motor, spherical motor can not only rotate on the shaft axis (rotating motion), but tilt the shaft with 2-DOF motion (positioning motion). In the typical type of spherical motor, one coil took part in positioning motion and rotating motion at the same time. As the result, the control algorithm was complex. To solve this problem, this study proposed a novel type of coil on the stator. The coils were separated for positioning motion and rotating motion. Thus the linkage flux of rotating coil didn't be affected the positioning angle. In this paper, comparing the back-EMF of typical and novel type was conducted and the driving experiment was carried out as the positioning angle. From the experiment result, the performance of proposed spherical motor could be verified.
The use of ultrasound pulsed Doppler systems has become increasingly popular due to the advantages of easy measurements of blood velocity, volume blood blow, and irregularities of the circulatory system. However, the 2-D Doppler systems have several problems, such as range ambiguity, low signal to noise ratio, and slow frame rate. The mean frequency aliasing problem originating from the pulse repetition frequency is one of major limitations in pulsed Doppler systems. A conventional approach to resolve this problem is tracking the mean frequency close to and beyond the Nyquist frequency along the temporal axis. In this paper, a new concept of tracking the mean frequency along the spatial axis is proposed. The proposed technique is fault tolerant by nature and more suitable for multi gate and 2-D Doppler system than conventional methods.

This paper suggests generalize mathematica mode for the benefit of volumetric error analysis of a multi-axis machine tool machining a sculptured surfaces. The volumetric error, in this paper, is defined as a three dimensional error at the cutting point, which is caused by the geometric errors and the kinematic errors of each axis and alignment errors of the cutting tool. The actual cutting position is analyzed based on the form shaping model including a geometric error of the moving carriage, where a form shaping model is derived from the homogeneous transformation matrix. Then the volumetric error is obtained by calculating the position difference between the actual cutting position and the ideal one calculated from a Nonuniform Rational B-Spline named as NURES. The simulation study shows the effectiveness for predicting the behavior of machining error and for the method of error compensation.

This paper presents the development of estimation model and control method based on the new computer vision. This proposed control method is accomplished using a sequential estimation scheme that permits placement of the rigid body in each of the two-dimensional image planes of monitoring cameras. Estimation model with six parameters is developed based on a model that generalizes known 4-axis scara robot kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation, etc. Based on the estimated parameters, depending on each camers the joint angle of robot is estimated by the iteration method. The method is tested experimentally in two ways, the estimation model test and a three-dimensional rigid body placement task. Three results show that control scheme used is precise and robust. This feature can open the door to a range of application of multi-axis robot such as assembly and welding.
Due to global warming, the need to secure an alternative resource has become more important nationally. Due to the high tidal range of up to 9.7m on the west coast of Korea, numerous tidal current projects are being planned and constructed. To extract a significant quantity of power, a tidal current farm with a multi-arrangement is necessary in the ocean. The rotor, which initially converts the energy, is a very important component because it affects the efficiency of the entire system, and its performance is determined by various design variables. The power generation is strongly dependent on the size of the rotor and the incoming flow velocity. However, the interactions between devices also contribute significantly to the total power capacity. Therefore, rotor performance considering the interaction problems needs to be investigated for generating maximum power in a specific field. This paper documents the characteristics of wake induced by horizontal axis tidal current power turbine.

In this paper, cable drive mechanism is proposed to implement high reduction gear ratio. Cable drive mechanism has great advantages such as light weight, high degree of freedom about design aspect and zero backlashes. However, it is restrictively utilized for robotic applications because it is difficult to implement high reduction gear ratio more than 10 to 1. Proposed mechanism enables multi-level reductions by adopting seamless winding method (SWM) which links the previous output axis and the next input axis. Consequently, this reduces the mechanical complexity significantly and enables high reduction with only one single wire cable. 3D CAD design was provided and prototype was manufactured.

Feed and spindle motor currents are used toi monitor the cutting process practically. The sensitivity of spindle drive system is lower than that of feed drive system, but the cutting torque is represented well by the spindle motor current. During multi-axis cutting, it is difficult to calculate the resultant cutting force using feed motor currents, because each feed force is reflected by each axis feed motor current with different time delay. It is also difficult to compensate the frictional torque using the feed motor current, because the magnitude of the frictional torque is dependent of the feedrate, table position, and cutting direction. On the other hand, cutting torque can be estimated well using spindle motor current which is independent of the cutting direction.
In small signal stability analysis of power systems, eigenvalue analysis is the most useful method and the detailed modeling of generator has an important effect to the eigenvalues. Generator full model is used for precise dynamic analysis of generators and controllers while two-axis model is used for multi-machine systems because of the reduced order of the state matrix. Also, the eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients are used for optimizing controller parameters to improve system stability. This paper compare the first and second order eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients of controllers using generator full model with those of two-axis model. As a result of an example, the estimated eigenvalues using the first and the second eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients using generator full model is very close to those of state matrix. Also the error ratios throughout a wide range of controller parameters is less than $1\%$.
