Recently, community computing has been proposed for group formation and group decision-making. However, legacy community computing systems do not support group need identification for ad hoc group formation, which would be one of key features of ubiquitous decision support systems and services. Hence, this paper aims to provide a multi-agent based methodology to enable nomadic community computing which supports ad hoc need identification and group formation. Focusing on supporting group decision-making of relatively small sized multiple individual in a community, the methodology copes with the following three characteristics: (1) ad hoc group formation, (2) context-aware group need identification, and (3) using mobile devices working in- and out-doors. NAMA-US, an RFID-based prototype system, has been developed to show the feasibility of the idea proposed in this paper.
Task allocation is a key problem in multiagent systems. The importance of automated negotiation protocols for solving the task allocation problem is increasing as a consequence of increased multi-agent applications. In this paper, we introduce the multiagent Traveling Salesman Problem(TSP) as an example of task reallocation problem, and suggest Vickery auction as an inter-agent coordination mechanism for solving this problem. In order to apply this market-based coordination mechanism into multiagent TSPs, we define the profit of each agent, the ultimate goal of negotiation, cities to be traded out through auctions, the bidding strategy, and the order of auctions. The primary advantage of such approach is that it can find an optimal task allocation ...
To develop a ubiquitous system, several researches have been tried to apply multi-agent models to design a system. Even though current multi-agent models provide many benefits with ubiquitous system developments, there are still some deficiencies in completely supporting the characteristics of ubiquitous systems such as dynamic formation and termination of mission-oriented organizations and interrelationship between organizations. In addition, existing agent-based models only concern aboutananalysis and design of a system, then place a burden of implementation on developers. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the high-level abstraction model of a multi-agent based ubiquitous system and the development process concerning implementation as well as design of systems. In addition, we implemented a development toolkit, called as CDTK(Community computing system Development Tool Kit), then developed a small community computing system using the CDTK.
A service restoration is one of the most important missions in distribution system operation. This paper proposes a multi-agent system approach to distribution system restoration. Every relay is developed as an agent by adding its own intelligent, self-tuning and communication ability. Relay agent calculates and corrects its restoration index by itself through communication with neighboring agents and its own intelligence. The proposed algorithm is applied to a simple network to show how to calculate restoration index. Keywords Multi-Agent System, Service Restoration, Distribution Networks

Many intelligent agent systems are known to incorporate BDI architecture for cognitive reasoning. Since this architecture contains all the knowledge of world model and reasoning rule, it is very complex and difficult to handle. This paper describes a methodology to design and implement BDI architecture, BDIAXml based on XML for multi-agent systems. This XML-based BDI architecture is smaller than any other BDI architecture because it separates knowledge for reasoning from domain knowledge and enables knowledge sharing using XML technology. Knowledge for BDI mental state and reasoning is composed of specific XML files and these XML files are stored into a specific knowledge server. Most systems using BDIAxml architecture can access knowledge from this server. We apply this BDIAXml system to domain of Hospital Information System and show that this architecture performs more efficiently than other BDI architecture system in terms of knowledge sharing, system size, and ease of use.

This paper addresses a state consensus controller design technique of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model-based multi-agent systems in a continuous-time domain. We express the interconnection topology among the agents through graph theory. The design condition is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

An intelligent distributed multi-agent system (IDMS) using reinforcement learning (RL) is a challenging and intricate problem in which single or multiple agent(s) aim to achieve their specific goals (sub-goal and final goal), where they move their states in a complex and cluttered environment. The environment provided by the IDMS provides a cumulative optimal reward for each action based on the policy of the learning process. Most actions involve interacting with a given IDMS environment; therefore, it can provide the following elements: a starting agent state, multiple obstacles, agent goals, and a cluttered index. The reward in the environment is also reflected by RL-based agents, in which agents can move randomly or intelligently to reach their respective goals, to improve the agent learning performance. We extend different cases of intelligent multi-agent systems from our previous works: (a) a proposed environment-clutter-based-index for agent sub-goal selection and analysis of its effect, and (b) a newly proposed RL reward scheme based on the environmental clutter-index to identify and analyze the prerequisites and conditions for improving the overall system.

In multi-agent systems, How to coordinate the behaviors of the agents through learning is a very important problem. The most important problems in the multi-agent system are to accomplish a goal through the efficient coordination of several agents and to prevent collision with other agents. In this paper, we propose a novel approach by using hybrid learning strategy. It is used hybrid learning strategy to control the multi-agent system efficiently by using the spatial relationship among the agents. Through experiments, we can see approximate faster the goal then other strategies and avoids collision among the agents.

In this paper, an integrated simulation model for designing multi-agent system based DEMS (distributed energy management system) in stand-alone micro-grid system is proposed. In the design of the EMS(energy management system), the multi-agent based DEMS are more effective than conventional centralized EMS, but it is difficult to design the DEMS by general design tools for power system because of various states of a microgrid system during operation of stand-alone mode. Also, since performance test of the DEMS using a real system is inefficient, an integrated simulation model is required for designing an effective multi-agent system based DEMS. The proposed model consists of Matlab/SimPowerSystems based simulation model of the microgrid system and the Multi-agnet based DEMS designed by Matlab/StateFlow tool. In order to show the effect of the proposed model, the model outputs are analyzed for specified operation conditions.
