  • In October 2011, a commercialized 100kW class floating photovoltaic system positive plant was installed at Hapcheon dam a multi-purpose reservoir the first time ever in the nation. Floating photovoltaic system differs in water float, mooring device and underwater cable process from land photovoltaic system. As for land and building photovoltaic power generation equipments, many installation cases and skilled experiences are available, and thus installation is not difficult. However, commercial power generation floating photovoltaic system, which is attempted for the first time in the nation, requires to be designed and installed through a series of processes like technical review and verification of data by process in comparison with similar cases. The structure of floating photovoltaic system, an equipment for float photovoltaic module and other electrical equipment, is required to withstand weather environments like wind or typhoon etc and yet not affect water quality negatively, and for implementation of this system, construction efficiency and economy etc should be considered comprehensively. In this paper, the techniques of installing floating photovoltaic structure, mooring device, underwater cable, electrical equipment and remote monitoring control system are explained. The 100kW floating PV system is operating with 15% average capacity factor.

  • The main objective of this research to develop an IoT based wireless contactless ultrasonic system (ICUS) and its application to concrete structure. The developed system consists of 16 mems, 2Mhz digitizer, amplifying circuit, FPGA, and wifi module, enabling to measure leaky surface waves from concrete specimens without physical coupling process and wires. Multi-channel analysis is performed to improve the accuracy of data analysis, and the velocity of leaky surface waves and acoustics are derived. Field inspection of railroad concrete sleepers is conducted to evaluate the performance of the system and to compare the results with conventional ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). As a result of the field inspection, UPV was limited to evaluate damages. This is because crack pattern of railroad sleepers is parallel to ultrasonic ray path and accessibility of the railroad at the field is disadvantageous to contact-based UPV. On the other hand, ICUS possibly detect the damages as reduction of dynamic modulus by up to 59% compared to non-damaged specimen.

  • In general, routing algorithms that were applied to ad-hoc networks are not suitable for the environment with many nodes over several thousands. To solve this problem, hierarchical management to these nodes and clustering-based protocols for the stable maintenance of topology are used. In this paper, we propose the clustering-based modified LEACH protocol that can applied to an environment which moves around metal containers within communication nodes. In proposed protocol, we implemented a module for detecting the movement of nodes on the clustering-based LEACH protocol and improved the defect of LEACH in an environment with movable nodes. And we showed the possibility of the effective communication by adjusting the configuration method of multi-hop. We also compared the proposed protocol with LEACH in four points of view, which are a gradual network composition time, a reconfiguration time of a topology, a success ratio of communication on an containers environment, and routing overheads. And to conclude, we verified that the proposed protocol is better than original LEACH protocol in the metal containers environment within communication of nodes.

  • Increasingly complex tasks are performed by computers or cellular phone, requiring more and more memory capacity as well as faster and faster processing speeds. This leads to a constant need to develop more highly integrated circuit systems. Therefore, there have been numerous studies by many engineers investigating circuit patterning. In particular, PCB including module/package substrates such as FCB (Flip Chip Board) has been developed toward being low profile, low power and multi-functionalized due to the demands on miniaturization, increasing functional density of the boards and higher performances of the electric devices. Imprint lithography have received significant attention due to an alternative technology for photolithography on such devices. The imprint technique. is one of promising candidates, especially due to the fact that the expected resolution limits are far beyond the requirements of the PCB industry in the near future. For applying imprint lithography to FCB, it is very important to control thermal properties and mechanical properties of dielectric materials. These properties are very dependent on epoxy resin, curing agent, accelerator, filler and curing degree(%) of dielectric materials. In this work, the epoxy composites filled with silica fillers and cured with various accelerators having various curing degree(%) were prepared. The characterization of the thermal and mechanical properties wasperformed by thermal mechanical analysis (TMA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), rheometer, an universal test machine (UTM).

  • Material properties such as coolant specific heat, film heat transfer coefficient, cladding thermal conductivity, surface diffusion coefficient of the multi-bubble are improved in MACSIS-Mod1. The axial power and flux profile module was also incorporated with irradiation history. The performance and feasibility of the updated driver fuel pin have been analyzed for nominal parameters based on the conceptual design for the KALIMER breakeven core by MACSIS-MOD1 code. The fuel slug centerline temperature takes the maximum at 700mm from the bottom of the slug in spite of the nearly symmetric axial power distribution. The cladding mid-wall and coolant temperatures take the maximum at the top of the pin. Temperature of the fuel slug surface over the entire irradiation life is much lower than the fuel-clad eutectic reaction temperature. The fission gas release of the driver fuel pin at the end of life is predicted to be $68.61\%$ and plenum pressure is too low to cause cladding yielding. The probability that the fuel pin would fail is estimated to be much less than that allowed in the design criteria. The maximum radial deformation of the fuel pin is $1.93\%$, satisfying the preliminary design criterion ($3\%$) for fuel pin deformation. Therefore the conceptual design parameters of the driver fuel pin for the KALIMER breakeven core are expected to satisfy the preliminary criteria on temperature, fluence limit, deformation limit etc.

  • The development of low-power wireless communication and low-cost multi-functional smart sensor has enabled the sensor network that can perceive the status information in remote distance. Sensor nodes are sending the collected data to the node in the base station through temporary communication path using the low-cost RF communication module. Sensor nodes get the energy supply from small batteries, however, they are installed in the locations that are not easy to replace batteries, in general, so it is necessary to minimize the average power consumption of the sensor nodes. It is known that the RF modules used for wireless communication are consuming 20-60% of the total power for sensor nodes. This study suggests the probability inference heuristic based non-periodic transmission to send the collected information to the base station node, when the calculated value by probability is bigger than an optional random value, adapting real-time to the variation characteristics of sensing datain order to improve the energy consumption used in the transmission of sensed data. In this transmission method suggested, transmitting is decided after evaluation of the data sensed by the probability inference heuristic algorithm and the directly sensed data, and the coefficient that is needed for its algorithm is decided through the reappearance rate of the algorithm verification data.

  • This paper describes the application of a wireless sensor network to a 31 meter-tall medieval tower located in the city of Trento, Italy. The effort is motivated by preservation of the integrity of a set of frescoes decorating the room on the second floor, representing one of most important International Gothic artworks in Europe. The specific application demanded development of customized hardware and software. The wireless module selected as the core platform allows reliable wireless communication at low cost with a long service life. Sensors include accelerometers, deformation gauges, and thermometers. A multi-hop data collection protocol was applied in the software to improve the system's flexibility and scalability. The system has been operating since September 2008, and in recent months the data loss ratio was estimated as less than 0.01%. The data acquired so far are in agreement with the prediction resulting a priori from the 3-dimensional FEM. Based on these data a Bayesian updating procedure is employed to real-time estimate the probability of abnormal condition states. This first period of operation demonstrated the stability and reliability of the system, and its ability to recognize any possible occurrence of abnormal conditions that could jeopardize the integrity of the frescos.

  • In the past, control and monitor of a large number of instruments is a specialized area, which requires an expensive dedicated module to implement. However, with the recent development of embedded technology, various products capable of performing M&C (Monitor and Control) have been released, and the scope of application is expanding. Accordingly, it is possible to more easily build a small M&C environment than before. In this paper, we discussed a method to replace the M&C of the VLBI system, which had to be implemented through a specialized hardware product, with an inexpensive general imbeded technology. Memory based data transmission, reception and storage is a technology that is already generalized not only in VLBI but also in the network field, and more effective M&C can be implemented when some items of Ethernet are optimized for the VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometer) system environment. In this paper, we discuss in depth the design and implementation for the multidrop based IoT architecture.
