Numerical study of double diffusive convection due to lateral heating in a rotating annulus (회전하는 환형용기내의 옆면 가열에 의한 이중확산대류에 관한 수치해석)

  • Numerical investigations were conducted to study the convective phenomena of an initially stably stratified salt water solution with lateral heating in a uniformly rotating annulus. The method of investigation is the finite difference analysis of the basic conservation equation for an axisymmetric, unsteady, double-diffusive convection and calculation is made for R $a_{\eta}$=2*10$^{5}$ and Ta=10$^{7}$ ~ 2.5*10$^{8}$ . Formation of layered flow structure, merging process of layers, the corresponding temperature and concentration distributions, Nu variation with time are examined. Numerical results show that in each layer, the temperature profile looks 'S'-shaped and the concentration profile is uniform due to the convective mixing. At the interface between adjacent layers, the temperature changes smoothly but the concentration changes rapidly. As the effect of the rotation increases, the generation of rolls at hot wall, the formation and merging of layers are delayed. The average Nu shows the trend of conduction heat transferees the effect of the rotation increases.n increases.

  • One of the unsolved problems in Neural Networks is the interpretation of hidden layers. This paper defines the Core-Net which has an input(p levels) and an output(q levels) with 2-layers as a basic circuit of neural network. In have suggested an equation, {{{{ {a}_{p,q} = {{q}^{2}} over {2}p(p-1)- { q} over {2 } (3 { p}^{2 } -7p+2)+ { p}^{2 }-3p+2}}}}, whichs ws the capacity of the Core-Net and have proved it by using the mathematical induction. It has been also shown that some of the problems with hidden layers can be solved by using the Core-Net and using simulation of an example.

  • We have fabricated good quality superconducting $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$ thin films on Hastelloy(Ni-Cr-Mo alloys) metallic substrate with $CeO_2$ and $BaTiO_3$ buffer layers in-situ by pulsed laser deposition in a multi-target processing chamber. We have chosen $CeO_2$ as a buffer layer which has cubic structure of $5.41{\AA}$ lattice parameter and only 0.2% of lattice mismatch with YBCO. $CeO_2$ layer may be helpful for power transmission due to its conducting property. In order to enhance the crystallization of YBCO films on metallic substrates. we deposited $CeO_2$ and $BaTiO_3$ buffer layers at various temperatures. The YBCO superconducting tape fabricated with $BaTiO_3$ and $CeO_2$ buffer layers shows 85K of transition temperature and about $8.4{\times}10^4A/cm^2$ of critical current density at 77K.

  • Wireless communication is one of most active areas in modern communication researches, QoS (Quality of Service) assurance is very important for wireless communication systems design, especially for applications such as streaming video etc., which requires strict QoS assurance. The modern wireless networks multi-layer protocol stack structure results in QoS metrics layered and acting in cascade and QoS metrics vertical mapping between protocol layers. Based on virtual buffer between protocol layers and queuing technology, a unified layered QoS mapping framework is proposed in this paper, in which we first propose virtual queue concept, give a novelty united neighboring protocol layers QoS metric mapping framework, and analysis method based on dicerete-time Markov chain, and numerical results show that our proposed framework represents a significant improvement over previous model.

A Study on Wave Propagation in Drilling Boreholes at Low Frequencies (석유시추공에서의 저주파음향의 전달에 관한 연구)

  • To understand how low-frequency sound waves propagate axially in drilling boreholes, the propagation modes and speeds including the effect of interaction among layers are obtained by analyzing an infinitely-long, uniform, and cylindrically multi-layered waveguide which is consisted of fluid layers and solid layers. Assuming low frequency(wave length considered is very long compared to the borehole diameter), axisymmetry, non-viscosity, and etc., analytical solutions are obtained. Also, sound reflection due to the changes in the cross section is analyzed. Results for typical drilling boreholes show the usefulness of the method developed in this research, and are compared with FEM results showing good agreements.

  • In general, high temperature superconducting coated conductors have intermediary buffers layer consisting of seed, diffusion barrier and cap layers. Simplification of the oxide materials buffer architecture in the fabrication of high temperature superconducting coated conductors is required because the deposition of multi-layers buffer architecture leads to a longer manufacturing time and a higher cost process of coated conductors. Thus, single buffer layer deposition seems to be important for practical coated conductor manufacturing process. In this study, a single gradient layered buffer deposition process of YZO for low cost coated conductors has been tried using DC reactive sputtering technique. About several thick YZO gradient single buffer layers deposited by DC co-sputtering process were found to act as a diffusion layer.

An efficient microscopic technique for aleurone observation with an entire kernel cross-section in maize (Zea mays L.)

  • The aleurone layer in maize is crucial as it contains essential nutrients such as minerals, vitamins, and high-quality proteins. While most of the maize varieties are known to possess a single aleurone layer, several multi-aleurone layer mutants and landraces have been suggested for hierarchical genetic control of aleurone development. Conventional microscopy analysis often involves using immature seeds or sampling only a portion of the kernel sample, and whole kernel section analysis using a microtome is technically difficult and time-consuming. Additionally, the larger size of maize kernels posed challenges for comprehensive cross-sectional analysis compared to other cereal crops. Consequently, this study aimed to develop an efficient method to comprehensively understand the aleurone layer characteristics of the entire cross-section in maize. Through observations of diverse maize genetic resources, we confirmed irregular aleurone layer patterns in those with multiple aleurone layers, and we discovered a landrace having multiple aleurone layers. By selectively identifying genetic resources with multiple aleurone layers, this method may contribute to efficient breeding processes in maize.

Low degree of homogeneity issue on the effective moduli of plain weave textile composites (기하학적 매개변수에 의한 평직복합재료의 저 균일도 문제)

  • In th is paper. the low degree of homogeneity issue in the effective modulus was studied for plain weave textile composites. Unit cell analyses were performed using multi-field macroelements. The effective moduli were calculated for finite and infinite configurations and the statistics assessment of the results was presented. Results indicated that the effective modulus of plain weave textile composites depended strongly on the fiber tow phase shift angles and the number of layers. As the number of layers increased, however, the distribution of the modulus showed concentration and higher degrees of homogeneity was attained.

FEM Analysis of Turning Multi-layer Metal (다중 적층 금속의 선삭가공에 대한 FEM 해석)

  • The aim of this study is to analyze turning process using commercial FEM simulation code. Various simulation models of orthogonal cutting process for 3 layers of metallic material have been simulated and analyzed. The workpiece material used for the orthogonal plane-strain metal cutting simulation consists of three layers, which are Allow Tool Steel, Aluminum and Stainless Steel. The finite element model is composed of a deformable workpiece and a rigid tool. The tool penetrates through the workpiece at a constant speed and constant feed rate. As an analytical result, detailed cutting temperature, strain, pressure, residual stress for both a tool and each layer of workpiece were obtained during the turning process. It has been closely observed that the chip flow curve deforms continuously.

Microstructure Evolution in the Layered (WC-Co)/Fe Powder Compacts with a Composition Gradient during Vacuum Sintering (농도기울기를 갖는 초경합금/철 혼합분말 성형체의 진공소결시의 미세조직 변화)

  • The microstructure evolution during sintering of a compact being composed of three layers of (WC-15%Co)/Fe powder mixture with different Fe contents has been observed. The Fe contents in the respective (WC-15%Co)/Fe layers were varied by 20%. 50%, and 90% in sequence by volume from a top layer to a bot- tom layer. The sintering temperatures and times were varied from 110$0^{\circ}C$ to 125$0^{\circ}C$ and from 1 h to 4 h, The compact layer was not densified below 120$0^{\circ}C$ in 4 h. Appropriate sintering temperature and time conditions for making a multi-layered hard metal compact were determined as 125$0^{\circ}C$ and 3 h, respectively.
