Spur Reduced PLL with △Σ Modulator and Spur Reduction Circuit (델타-시그마 변조기와 스퍼 감소 회로를 사용하여 스퍼 크기를 줄인 위상고정루프)

  • A novel PLL with a delta-sigma modulator and a spur reduction circuit is proposed. delta-sigma modulator makes the LF remove noise easily by moving the spur noise to a higher frequency band. Therefore, the magnitude of spur can be reduced the reasonable bandwidth. The spur reduction circuit reduces the spur size by reducing the LF voltage change generated during the period of reference signal. The spur reduction circuit is designed as simple as possible not to increase the size of PLL. The proposed PLL with the previous two techniques is designed with a supply voltage of 1.8V in a 0.18um CMOS process. Simulation results show an almost 20dB reduction in the magnitude of spur. The spur reduced PLL can be used in narrow bandwidth communication system.

  • Seeing the elapsed time as a quantity that can be measured is quite challenging for students while making students see it is also challenging for teachers. Tuning on these challenges, this article reports on what learning opportunities elementary teachers provide when they teach elapsed time focusing on quantitative objectification. I observed three mathematics classrooms where the elapsed time was taught by three elementary teachers and did a narrative analysis on the instructions. All three teachers utilized certain tools to support students access to the elapsed time as a quantity. They appropriated various quantitative attributes of the tool. In the case of the analog clock, one teacher tried to quantification the elapsed time with the number of minute hand's turning, while the other teacher indicated the distance of minute hand's moving. One teacher represented the elapsed time with the longitudinal attribute of the time band. Standing on the findings, the didactical implications of various attempts for quantitative objectification of the elapsed time implemented were discussed.

Measurement and analysis of indoor corridor propagation path loss in 5G frequency band (5G 주파수 대역에서의 실내 복도 전파 경로손실 측정 및 분석)

  • In this paper, channel propagation path loss was measured in building corridors for frequency bands of 3.7 GHz and 28 GHz, which are used in 5G mobile communication, and compared and analyzed with CI (Close-In) and FI (Floating-Intercept) channel models. To measure the propagation path loss, the measurement was performed while moving the receiver (Rx) from the transmitter (Tx) by 10 m. As a result of the measurement, the PLE (Path Loss Exponent) values of the CI model at 3.7 GHz and 28 GHz were 1.5293 and 1.7795, respectively, and the standard deviations were analyzed as 9.1606 and 8.5803, respectively. In the FI model, 𝛼 values were 79.5269 and 70.2012, 𝛽 values were -0.6082 and 1.2517, respectively, and the standard deviations were 5.8113 and 4.4810, respectively. In the analysis results through the CI model and the FI model, the standard deviation of the FI model is smaller than that of the CI model, so it can be seen that the FI model is similar to the actual measurement result.

Development of Easy-to-Use Crane-Tip Controller for Forestry Crane

  • Forestry crane work in a forest harvester or forwarder is regarded as one of most hard work requiring a very high level of operation skill. The operator must handle two or more multi-axes joysticks simultaneously to control the multiple manipulators for maneuvering the crane-tip to its intended location. This study has been carried out to develop a crane-tip controller which can intuitively maneuver the crane-tip, resulting in improving the productivity by decreasing the technical difficulty of control as well as reducing the workload. The crane-tip controller consists of a single 2-axis joystick and a control algorithm run on microcontroller. Lab-scale forestry crane was constructed using electric cylinders. The crane-tip control algorithm has the crane-tip follow the waypoints generated on the given path considering the dead band region using LBO (Lateral Boundary Offset). A speed control gain to change the speed of relevant cylinders relatively is applied as well. By the P (Proportional) control within the control interval of 20 msec, the average error of crane-tip control on the predefined straight path turned out to be 14.5 mm in all directions. When the joystick is used the waypoints are generated in real time by the direction signal from the joystick. In this case, the average error of path control was 12.4 mm for straight up, straight forward and straight down movements successively at a certain constant speed setting. In the slant movement of crane-tip by controlling two axes of joystick simultaneously, the movement of crane-tip was controlled in the average error of 15.9 mm when the crane-tip is moved up and down while moving toward forward direction. It concluded that the crane-tip control was possible using the control algorithm developed in this study.

Algorithm Implementation for Detection and Tracking of Ships Using FMCW Radar (FMCW Radar를 이용한 선박 탐지 및 추적 기법 구현)

  • This study focuses on a ship detection and tracking method using Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar used for horizontal surveillance. In general, FMCW radar can play an important role in maritime surveillance, because it has many advantages such as low warm-up time, low power consumption, and its all weather performance. In this paper, we introduce an effective method for data and signal processing of ship's detecting and tracking using the X-band radar. Ships information was extracted using an image-based processing method such as the land masking and morphological filtering with a threshold for a cycle data merged from raw data (spoke data). After that, ships was tracked using search-window that is ship's expected rectangle area in the next frame considering expected maximum speed (19 kts) and interval time (5 sec). By using this method, the tracking results for most of the moving object tracking was successful and those results were compared with AIS (Automatic Identification System) for ships position. Therefore, it can be said that the practical application of this detection and tracking method using FMCW radar improve the maritime safety as well as expand the surveillance coverage cost-effectively. Algorithm improvements are required for an enhancement of small ship detection and tracking technique in the future.

Correlation between Storm Waves and Far-Infra-Gravity Waves Observed in kkye Harbor (옥계항에서 관측된 폭풍파와 저중력파의 상호관계)

  • Simultaneous field measurements of short-period and long-period waves were made at five stations inside or outside Okkye Harbor, which is located in the east coast of Korea. Based on the measured data, spacial and temporal variations of the long-period wave energy were examined. Three smoothing methods were examined for the spectral estimates: fixed interval averaging method, incremental interval averaging method, and moving averaging method. It was shown that a proper smoothing method should be chosen depending on the period of first resonant mode and the length of data being used. By comparing the results obtained using the long-term data with those obtained using two-day data, we showed that it is necessary to analyze the data of calm seas and storm seas separately. The Helmholtz resonant period in Okkye Harbor was found to be about 9.6 minutes with its relative amplification ratio of 9 to 10, and local amplifications were apparent at the periods of 1.2 to 1.3 minutes and 0.7 minute. During calm seas, both at the harbor entrance and inside the harbor the energy of the waves of 9 minutes or longer period was larger than the infra-gravity wave energy by more than 100 times. However, during storm seas the energy level was very high all over the period band, and local amplification was larger than that during calm seas by more than 100 times, especially inside the harbor, Finally it was shown that the energies of the Helmholtz resonant mode and the infra-gravity waves of 1 to 2 minutes are proportional to the storm wave height.

  • In this paper, we propose a handoff-aware DiffServ scheduler which intends to guarantee various QoS requirements of multimedia services for mobile nodes in TDD/CDMA based wireless networks. TDD is widely used duplexing mechanism in wireless communications. Unlike FDD, TDD allows a node to symmetrically communicate with a base station by using a single frequency band, resulting in high utilization of wireless resources. DiffServ is regarded as a relatively simple QoS support mechanism and thus it is easy to be extended. This is because DiffServ is not a per-flow based mechanisms and it does not require any signaling protocol. However, previously proposed DiffServ schedulers for wired networks can not be deployed directly into wireless networks since they do not consider properties of wireless networks. As a solution to the problem, DSS(DiffServ Supporting Scheduler) was proposed. DSS uses uplink channel, which is originally used for a node to require a base station to transmit packets, to support QoS efficiently. However, QoS does not consider handoff so that it can not support QoS for moving nodes from one cell to the other cell. Therefor. the proposed handoff support QoS mechanism is necessary for TCC/CDMA networks. The proposed scheme allows a mobile node to achieve seamless service without QoS degradation even for the handoff duration.

Tiny Pores Observed by New Solar Telescope and Hinode

  • Our previous study on tiny pores (R < 2") observed by HINODE/Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) revealed that the plasma in the pores at the photosphere is always moving down and the pores are surrounded by the strong downward motions (highly red-shifted) of neighboring granulations. From this study, we speculated that the flow motions above the pore should be related with the motions at the photosphere, since the pore is strong magnetic field region. Meanwhile, SNU and KASI installed Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) in the Cude room of the 1.6 m New Solar Telescope (NST) at Big Bear Solar Observatory. FISS is a unique system that can do imaging of H-alpha and Ca II 8542 band simultaneously, which is quite suitable for studying of dynamics of chromosphere. To get some clue on the relationship between the photospheric and low-chromospheric motions at the pore region, we took a coordinate observation with NST/FISS and Hinode/SOT for new emerging active region (AR11117) on October 26, 2010. In the observed region, we could find two tiny pores and two small magnetic islands (SMIs), which have similar magnetic flux with the pores but does not look dark. Magnetic flux density and Doppler velocities at the photosphere are estimated by applying the center-of-gravity (COG) method to the HINODE/spectropolarimeter (SP) data. The line-of-sight motions above the photosphere are determined by adopting the bisector method to the wing spectra of Ha and CaII 8542 lines. As results, we found the followings. (1) There are upflow motion on the pores and downflow motion on the SMIs. (2) Towards the CaII 8542 line center, upflow motion decrease and turn to downward motion in pores, while the speed of down flow motion increases in the SMIs. (3) There is oscillating motion above pores and the SMIs, and this motion keep its pattern along the height. (4) As height increase, there is a general tendency of the speed shift to downward on pores and the SMIs. This is more clearly seen on the other regions of stronger magnetic field. In this talk, we will present preliminary understanding of the coupling of pore dynamics between the photosphere and the low-chromosphere.

A study on the Frequency Analysis Function of the Auricle Using A Notch Filter

  • The human auricle is the first part to receive sound from the outside. In this part, the frequency range of human recognizable form is divided and organized. In this study, we propose modeling by applying a single sound source to the surface of the human auricle. This means that when the sound pressure of a low frequency (low frequency) sound enters the pinna, the impedance felt at the tip of a part of the non-linear surface of the pinna is mainly due to the tensile force at the end of the part of the non-linear surface of the pinna. By expressing the situation of moving at a very small speed, the characteristic impedance of the pinna was confirmed to be negative infinity, and it was also confirmed that the speed at the tip of a part of the non-linear surface of the pinna was 0 in the anti-resonance state. It was found that the wave propagation phenomenon that determines the characteristics of the filter is determined by how large the wavelength, kL, is compared to the length of the tip of a part of the non-straight surface of the pinna. Humans first receive sounds from outside through their ears. The auricle is non-linear and has a curved shape, and it is known that it analyzes frequencies while receiving external sounds. The human ear has an audible frequency range of 20Hz - 20,000Hz. Through the study, we applied the characteristics of the notch filter to hypothesize that the human audible frequency range is separated from the auricle, and applied filter theory to analyze it, and as a result, meaningful results were obtained. The curved part and the inner part of the auricle function as a trumpet, collecting sounds, and at the same time amplifying the weak sound of a specific band. The point was found and the shape of the envelope detected in the auricle was found. Selectivity for selecting sounds coming from the outside is the formula of the pinna that implements the function of Q. The function of distinguishing human-recognizable sound from the pinna from low to high through frequency analysis is performed in the pinna, and the 2-3kHz area, where human hearing threshold is the most sensitive, is also the acoustic impedance of the most recessed area of the pinna.
