The microorganisms with the antifungal activity against Phytophthora capsici and Colletotrichum acutatum and the plant growth promotion activity were screened from forest soils of Moon-gyeong (Juheul Mountain), Gyeongsangbuk-do. One of the isolates, strain MG 121 showed antifungal activity against P. capsici and C. acutatum and possessed phosphate solubilization activity was selected to development biocontrol agent. The strain MG 121 was identified as Streptomyces sp. by analysis of 16S rDNA. On the test with pepper fruits, the strain inhibited disease incidences of late blight and anthracnose over 80%. In greenhouse test, plant height, the number of leaf, fresh weight and roots length of pepper plants upon treatment of culture suspension of Streptomyces sp. MG 121 were significantly higher than those without the bacterial cells. In addition, strain MG 121 was capable to solublize rock-phosphate after incubation for 144 hours in potato dextrose broth. The concentration of soluble phosphate in PDB amended with 0.5% rock-phosphate was increased up to $765{\mu}g/ml$.

In order to understand the effect of the mountain fire on the polymeric insulator for transmission lines, the author observed the deformation of the sheds of the polymeric insulators and the change of the discs of the porcelain insulators under fire, and investigated the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the insulators after the ignition test As the result the following conclusions were obtained. First, the porcelain insulator was degraded in electrical characteristics when the insulator was subjected to the fire for approximately 5 minutes; whereas, the polymeric insulator was not degraded though there were some damage on its sheds. Second, after 20 minutes exposure to the fire, the polymeric insulator lost a lot of parts of sheds, but the electrical characteristics was lowered by around $20(\%)$, but the porcelain insulators were electrically degraded by more than $80(\%)$.

In this study, the temporal changes in the chemical characteristics of soil in a reclaimed coastal area, the Shihwa Industrial Complex in the West Coast in Kyung-Gi Province, and the correlations between chemical components were investigated to provide useful information needed for introducing vegetation in the area. The sites were filled with mountain forest soils from 1987 to 1996, and developed into various landuses such as neighbourhood parks, children's parks, buffer greens, pedestrian roads and others. The correlation analyses shoed that pH, organic matter(OM) and available P205 had not been closely related to other chemical parameters such as various cations electro-conductivity(EC) and cation exchange capacity(CEC): especially, pH showed a very low correlation with other factors. The EC turned out to have positive relationships with cations, especially with Na+ ions. There seemed to be fairly good correlations between cations except Ca++ ion. The relation between cations and OM was inconclusive possible because the OM contents in the soils were too low for the analysis. The OM seemed to increase slowly with time and the EC decreased slowly. The salinity and CEC in the original soils decreased rapidly possibly because of leaching. It is believed that there were some external disturbances such as rainfall which had affected the soil properties. The soils sampled in dry season showed a very high salinity. From this it is possible to assume that the rainfall would affect the sol properties significantly. So it is necessary to continue further studies to investigate the impacts of external disturbances such as rainfall on vertical soil profile and temporal variations as well as to delineate correlations between parameters with external disturbances controlled.
This study was conducted by China along with the Tumen River, which cuts between of North Korea and China. As a result 92 family, 287 genera, 470 species, 57 variety 4 formas, total 531 taxa of vascular plants were identified. The surveyed area was include the region that had various vegetation such as upper swampy land, seashore dune, a river, a high mountain grassy plain, deciduous tree zone and evergreen coniferous forest zone. The specfic plants which is protected by The Natural Environmental Preseration Act appeared to 6 taxa, and rare and endangered plants conserved by Forestry Administration were found 21 taxa in these areas. Among them Lilium cernum, Jeffersonia dubia, Acanthopanax senticosus could be regarded as very important one for chinese medicine. Picea koraiensis, Larix gmelini var. principis-ruprechtii, Populus koreana, Betula fusenensis, Ulmus pumila, Ledum palustre var. diversipilosum, Rhododendron parvifolium, Vaccinium uliginosum, Astragalus membranaceus, Aquilegia flabellata var. pumila, Carex gotoi, Carex capricornis etc. are not distributed in the South Korea.
Mountain watersheds are a lot of problems about soil erosion because of frequent wildfire occurrence. Runoff and soil erosion caused by the rain on a hillslope after wildfire are dependent on cover factor. And these has been a decrease by the cover factor recovery following time passage. The present paper defines the dynamic sensitivity of runoff and soil erosion that is the rate of runoff volume and soil erosion weight to rainfall energy and analyzes characteristics of the sensitivity for variation of cover factor, In according to the correlation analysis between other parameters and sensitivities, the sensitivity is the most dependent on the cover factor and the relation is exponential. The sensitivities after wildfire have suitable relation with treatment method for the mitigation of burnt forest and wildfire intensity. It was confirmed that the variation of soil erosion sensitivities come upon the range of stability in 5 years after wildfire.
Strain BCNU 5011 was isolated from forest soil samples collected in the Taebaek mountain in the Gangwon province, Korea. The biochemical, physiological and 16S rRNA sequence analysis strongly indicated that this isolate was most closely related to Paenibacillus polymyxa. A maximum production level of antimicrobial substances of Paenibacillus sp. BCNU 5011 was achieved under aerobic incubation at $30^{\circ}C$ for 3 days in SST broth.Paenibacillus sp. BCNU 5011 showed a broad spectrum of activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, including methicllinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Paenibacillus sp. BCNU 5011 was also shown to inhibit the growth of different potential human pathogenic bacteria and fungi in vitro. Peptide extract showed better antimicrobial activity than solvent extracts. But active antimicrobial compounds might be included in both peptide extract and solvent extracts. Further separation, purification and identification of active principles leads project to develop antimicrobial agents and anti-MRSA agents.
Scene classification and concept-based procedures have been the great interest for image categorization applications for large database. Knowing the category to which scene belongs, we can filter out uninterested images when we try to search a specific scene category such as beach, mountain, forest and field from database. In this paper, we propose an adaptive segmentation method for real-world natural scene classification based on a semantic modeling. Semantic modeling stands for the classification of sub-regions into semantic concepts such as grass, water and sky. Our adaptive segmentation method utilizes the edge detection to split an image into sub-regions. Frequency of occurrences of these semantic concepts represents the information of the image and classifies it to the scene categories. K-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) algorithm is also applied as a classifier. The empirical results demonstrate that the proposed adaptive segmentation method outperforms the Vogel and Schiele's method in terms of accuracy.
A survey which was to find out visitor's behavior and their satisfaction on nature trails in Mt. Jiri National Park was conducted to provide basic information and management methods. According to the survey, major visitors were male with the age between 40 and 50, and the residents of Gyeongnam with relatively high academic background. The visitors had obtained information about natural trail mainly from other visitor, not from internet. The visitors were mainly composed of big group and family. The main purpose of visiting was to escape congested everyday in Yupyeong and Hadong district, and to enjoy mountain climbing in Jungsanri and Baekmudong district. Although there were differences among districts, most visitors were satisfied with natural interpretation program. About 40% were recognized optimum length of nature trails as 2km and less.
This study was conducted to analyze character of distribution of plants by landforms and altitude in Mt. myeonbong. The honey bee has a crucial ecological status for maintaining the natural ecology system. Pollination mediations by honey bees are recognized as an efficient way to enhance the quality of biological diversity and green areas in the nature and the urban ecological system. However, the population of bee around the world is decreasing and we do not know exactly how bees react to the physical environment in the urban area. This study is a basic research for the improvement of pollination services in the Korean urban ecological system. It aims to induce and review environmental variables which have high relations with the activities of pollination mediation insects in the urban area. The study established a Maxent model using five urban environmental variables that reflect the ecology of Bombus ignitus and the place information where Bombus ignitus appears in 18 spots of Seoul city, and compared with previous research results on Apis millifera. Bombus ignitus preferred places with more natural environments such as mountain forest areas and vicinities of streams. They preferred Stratified Tree Area the most among the vegetation types existing in the urban area. Comparing chicken models, both species saw their response value drop as the building coverage rose. In the case of Apis millifera and Bombus ignitus variables, the response value of both species was high in 10 out of 20 types. The result of this study is expected to provide basic information for improving the pollination services in the Korean urban area and to be utilized as the basic materials for the future urban planning.
