  • From standstill to medium speed which enough to sensing back EMF, it is not easy to drive without additional equipments due to directly proportional to flux. Conventional method to drive is 'align and go' method, so called v/f control that is increased voltage duty in proportion to the increase of frequency. Because it isn't consider load of motor and doesn't know rotor position exactly, current is supplied too much current or not enough to rotate motor. This paper is proposed starting method without any poison sensor and can drive a BLDC motor from standstill to the medium speed smoothly without any rattling and time delay compared with the conventional starting algorithm. To verify algorithm of this paper, experimental results are presented.

마이크로 모터의 자동화된 FEA 시뮬레이션 (Automated FEA Simulation of Micro Motor)

  • This paper describes an automated evaluation of electrostatic field for micro motors whose sizes range 10 to 103um. Electric field modeling in micro motors has been generally restricted to in-plane two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). In this paper, the actual three-dimensional geometry of the micro motor is considered. An automatic FE mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry techniques, is incorporated in the system, together with one of commercial FE analysis codes and one of commercial solid modelers. The system allows a geometry model of concern to be automatically converted to different FE models, depending on physical phenomena to be analyzed, electrostatic analysis and stress analysis and so on. The FE models are then exported to the FE analysis code, and then analyses are peformed. Then, analytical analysis and FE analysis about the torque generated by electrostatic micro motor are performed. The starting torque is proportional to $V^2$, the calculated starting torque from the two-dimensional analytical solutions are three times larger than those from the three-dimensional FE solutions.

  • This paper is intended to improve efficiency of two-phase BLDC motor using analytical and statistical methods, and then the stability of the starting for the designed model is investigated. The characteristics of the motor according to magnetization directions of permanent magnet are analyzed through the analytical method, and design variables that affect the efficiency are selected. Preliminary optimal design is performed using the analytical method with the design variable. The RSM (Response Surface Method) based on the FEA (Finite Element Analysis) is applied to complement errors of the analytical method. As a result, the optimal design is determined. Finally, the stability of the starting for the optimal designed model is evaluated by analyzing cogging torque, and it is verified through the FEA.

  • In this paper, the starting torque and efficiency characteristics of the induction motor (IM) for the electric vehicle (EV) are improved by changing the slot shapes of squirrel cage. The initial model of the induction motor is designed by the loading distribution method (LDM), and then the rotor with squirrel cage of NEMA class A is selected to optimize the slot shape by response surface method(RSM). The design variables of rotor slot shape are obtained by the RSM. Starting torque and efficiency were calculated by the equivalent circuit method. As a result, starting torque and efficiency of the optimized model shows good performance through whole-speed range.

  • The relay protection engineers are sometimes faced with the difficulties in full protection of high-inertia drive motors during acceleration period. The problem results from lower permitted locked rotor time of the motor compared with motor starting time. Even though the various types of protection relay and other device (Speed switch, Distance relay) are used, the full protections against abnormal starting conditions may not be available. So, the development of a new speed-biased overcurrent relay is suggested in this paper. This paper also presents that speed-biased overcurrent relay can fully protect the high-inertia motor during abnormal starting condition by computer simulation.

  • This research used triac that is semi-conductor that act to static contact to overcome happened shortcoming been using mechanical centrifugal force switch usually Detect starting current of single phase induction motor and decided moving time. Therefore, could improve life of switch semipermanently. Also, wish to reduced impact that electric motor suffers at the starting moment and do stable starting which there is no life improvement and noise of electric motor itself, arc.

  • Generally, the usage motor in the vehicle is exposed to highly ambient temperature and large vibration according to repeatedly starting and stopping during very short time. So, in this paper, the rotor shape design was performed to improve demagnetization endurance by considering starting current of Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM) through Finite Element Method(FEM). As a result, the end of Permanent Magnet (PM) in the basic model was occurring a partial irreversible demagnetization by starting current. To solve this problem, the installing flux barrier was limited to flux line on the core. Accordingly, demagnetization endurance and operating characteristics were improved.

  • This paper proposes a novel starting method of a high speed induction motor with air bearings for turbo blowers. The friction of air bearings varies according to rotating speed, operating temperature and usage time. Specially, friction torque at initial starting state under low bearing temperature usually results in starting failures of the conventional V/F control method. Therefore, this paper proposes a new starting method, which consists of an initial I/F control mode and smooth transition method to V/F control mode to overcome the starting failure. The experimental results are shown to verify the analysis and the usefulness of the proposed method.

  • Fractional horse power single phase induction motors have no starting torque their own. So there are several ways of starting single phase induction motors. The most common type is the starting capacitor installed in series with the auxiliary winding to increase the starting torque. Also, the auxiliary winding is disconnected once the speed of the motor reaches 70 to 80 [%] of the rated speed. In the conventional systems, this function is conducted by a centrifugal switch. But the mechanical centrifugal switch has many problems such as switch malfunction. This paper presents the new methods of electronic starting switch by inductor to overcome these shortcomings of centrifugal switch.

  • To optimize the cold start process of a 4-stroke, 8 cylinder Diesel engine, a dynamic simulation model from cranking to idle speed is developed. Physically-based first order starter motor dynamics are used to model the performance of starting process which is very complex. These equations are solved using numerical schemes(Petzold-Gear BDF method) to describe the starting process of diesel engine and to study the effects of starting parameters. The validity of this model is examined by start test. This model can be served as a tool for computer aided control systems design to improve cold improve cold start performance.
