Motion control systems are widely deployed in various industrial automation processes. The motion controller, which is a key element of motion control systems, has stringent real-time constraints. The controller must provide a short and deterministic control message transmission cycle, and minimize the actuation deviation among motor drives. To meet these requirements, hardware-based proprietary controllers have been prevalent. However, since it is becoming difficult for such an approach to meet increasing needs of system interoperability and scalability, nowadays, software-based universal motion controllers are regarded as their substitutes. Recently, embedded motion controller solutions are gaining attention due to low cost and relatively high performance. In this paper, we designed and implemented an embedded motion controller on an ARM-based evaluation board by using Xenomai real-time kernel and other open source software components. We also measured and analyzed the performance of our embedded controller under a realistic test-bed environment. The experimental results show that our embedded motion controller can provide relatively deterministic performance with synchronized control of three motor axis at 2 ms control cycle.
In this paper, an intelligent robust control system (IRCS) for precision tracking control of permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo drives is proposed. The IRCS comprises a recurrent wavelet-based interval type-2 fuzzy-neural-network controller (RWIT2FNNC), an RWIT2FNN estimator (RWIT2FNNE) and a compensated controller. The RWIT2FNNC combines the merits of a self-constructing interval type-2 fuzzy logic system, a recurrent neural network and a wavelet neural network. Moreover, it performs the structure and parameter-learning concurrently. The RWIT2FNNC is used as the main tracking controller to mimic the ideal control law (ICL) while the RWIT2FNNE is developed to approximate an unknown dynamic function including the lumped parameter uncertainty. Furthermore, the compensated controller is designed to achieve $L_2$ tracking performance with a desired attenuation level and to deal with uncertainties including approximation errors, optimal parameter vectors and higher order terms in the Taylor series. Moreover, the adaptive learning algorithms for the compensated controller and the RWIT2FNNE are derived by using the Lyapunov stability theorem to train the parameters of the RWIT2FNNE online. A computer simulation and an experimental system are developed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed IRCS. All of the control algorithms are implemented on a TMS320C31 DSP-based control computer. The simulation and experimental results confirm that the IRCS grants robust performance and precise response regardless of load disturbances and PMSM parameters uncertainties.

In this paper the problems associated with the switching surge of PWM inverter devices were analysed. As the application of ASD for efficient speed control of AC rmtors is increased, so is the rrntor and ASD-related failure increased. In the industrial rmtor awlications, the introduction of PWM drives can sometmes cause insulation breakdown between the phase windings due to high transient voltage peak. The motor cable length combined with the high switching frequency becomes more sensitive issue for proper drive operation. Effects of the cable length and high switching frequency influence both on rmtor and inverter. When the insulation level of rmtor winding is low, the failure probability caused by high peak voltage and fast voltage rise times(dv/dt) is high. Voltage refloctions are simulated far rmtor capacities, ASD and rise times and are presented graphically. The filtering techniques are discussed to reduce the rmtor terminal overvoltage and dv/dt in inverter fed AC rrntor drive systems. We confirmed that the lower motar capacity and rmtar insulation level, the shorter switching time and cable length and the higrer the probability of insulation breakdown .kdown .

Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) have been expanding gradually their awlications in the variable speed drives due to their relatively low cost, simple and robust structure, controllability and high efficiency. In this paper neural network theory is used to detemrine fuzzy-neural network controller's membership ftmctions and fuzzy rules. In addition neural network emulator is used to emulate forward dynamics of SRM and to get error signal at fuzzy-neural controller output layer. Error signal is backpropagated through neural network emulator. The backpropagated error of emulator offers the path which reforms the fuzzy-neural network controller's mmbership ftmctions and fuzzy rules. 32bit Digital Signal Processor(TMS320C31) was used to achieve the high speed control and to realize the fuzzy-neural control algorithm. Simulation and experimental results show that in the case of load variation the proposed control rrethcd was superior to a conventional rrethod in the respect of speed response.sponse.

This paper presents a SPMSM(Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) servo drive system using high performance TMS320F2812 DSP for the industrial application. The DSP(Digital Signal Processor) Controller enables an enhanced real time algorithm and cost-effective design intelligent for only exclusively motor drives which can be yield enhanced operation, fewer system components, lower control system cost, increased efficiency and high performance. The suggested system contain speed and current sensing circuits, SVPWM(Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation) and I/O interface circuit. The developed servo drive control system showns a good response characteristics results and high performance features in general purposed 400[w] machine. This system can achieve cost reduction and size minimization of controllers.
Optimal efficiency control of synchronous reluctance motor(SynRM) is very important in the sense of energy saving and conservation of natural environment because the efficiency of the SynRM is generally lower than that of other types of AC motors. This paper is proposed an efficiency optimization control for the SynRM which minimizes the copper and iron losses. The design of the speed controller based on fuzzy-neural networks (FN)-PI controller that is implemented using fuzzy control and neural networks. There exists a variety of combinations of d and q-axis current which provide a specific motor torque. The objective of the efficiency optimization control is to seek a combination of d and q-axis current components, which provides minimum losses at a certain operating point in steady state. It is shown that the current components which directly govern the torque production have been very well regulated by the efficiency optimization control scheme. The proposed algorithm allows the electromagnetic losses In variable speed and torque drives to be reduced while keeping good torque control dynamics. The control performance of the proposed controller is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. Analysis results are presented to show the validity of the proposed algorithm.

The harmonic distortion level may be significant in electric propulsion systems, as the main loads usually are variable speed propulsion/thruster drives. Distortion of currents and supply voltage waveforms may lead to: Increased power dissipation(losses) in equipment connected to the network, such as generators, motors, transformers, cables, etc., from the harmonic currents, may cause overheating and deterioration of the insulation, and reduced life time of the equipment. In this paper introduced the canceling method of harmonic currents by a multipulse drive with phase shifting transformer. The simulation results indicated a good speed response to the middle speed range of electric propulsion motor. And also, THD(total harmonic distortion) and torque ripple could be reduced in comparing the 12-pulse drive with 6-pulse drive.

This paper presents an on-line correction method of current measurement errors for a pure-integration-based flux estimation down to 1-Hz stator frequency. An observer-based approach is taken as one possible solution of eliminating the dc offset and the negative sequence component of unbalanced gains in the synchronous coordinate. At the same time, the positive sequence component estimation is performed by creating an error signal between a motor model reference and an estimated q-axis rotor flux established by a permanent magnet (PM) in the synchronous coordinate. The compensator utilizes a PI controller that controls the error signal to zero. The proposed technique further contains a residual error compensator to completely eliminate miscellaneous disturbances in the estimated flux. The developed algorithm has been implemented on a 1.1-kW permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

The switched reluctance drive exhibits higher levels of vibration and acoustic noise than that of most competing drives. The main source of vibration in the switched reluctance drive is generated by rapid change of radial force when phase current is extinguished by commutation action. A new excitation strategy for a Switched Reluctance Motor with Auxiliary Winding (SRMAW) is described and tested. This scheme has auxiliary winding with one diode which is sound to all th poles in one winding. In this scheme, auxiliary winding is used to reduce magnetic stress during commutations. The abrupt change of a phase excitation produces mechanical stresses and it results in vibration and noise. The acoustic noise is reduced remarkably through 2-stage commutation. The operational principle and a characteristic comparison to that of the conventional SRM show that this scheme has some advantages including noise reduction as well as high efficiency drive.

Various types of latch designs for hard disk drives using load/unload mechanism have been introduced to protect undesired release motions of a voice coil motor(VCM) actuator from sudden disturbances. Recently, various inertia-type latches have been widely used because locking performance is better than that of other types of latch. However there has been a limit in the inertia type in order to guarantee perfect latch and unlatch operations because of changes in latch/unlatch conditions due to mechanical tolerance and temperature-dependent friction. In this paper, a reliable and robust magnetic latch mechanism is proposed through only simple modifications of coil and yoke shapes in order to overcome the mechanical limit of current inertia-type latches. This new magnetic latch does not have only a simple structure but it also ensures reliable operations and anti-shock performance. The operating mechanism of the proposed latch is theoretically analyzed and optimally designed using an electromagnetic simulation.
