The purpose of this study is to measure the impact of motivation on academic achievement and satisfaction of adult learners in an e-Learning environment, and to come up with strategies to improve the effectiveness of e-Learning for adult learners. In order to find answer, devices were developed, tested for validity and reliability, and use for testing variables for 289 adult learners. To measure the impact of achievement motivation on learning in job training, a multiple regression analysis was performed. The analysis results show that achievement motivation has an impact on academic achievement with significance level .001, but does not have an impact on a learner's satisfaction. Further analyses on the subcategories of achievement motivation show that individual-oriented motivation affects achievement with significance level of .001, while social-oriented motivation does not. From this finding, some strategies to boost individual-oriented motivation are suggested to enhance effectiveness of job training in e-Learning environment. Further strategies to boost individual-oriented motivation should be developed by studying various aspects of e-Learning such as learning environments, learning culture, learning modes and methods, and evaluation.
This study examined different individual and parental factors that affect children's achievement motivation. For an analysis, perceived competence, intrinsic locus of control were included in individual variables. For parental variables, parental support and achievement pressure and marital conflict were examined. The sample consisted of 561 fifth and sixth grade children. Statistics and methods used for the data analysis were Cronbach's alpha, Factor analysis, frequency, percentage, Pearson's correlation, and Hierarchical Regression. Several major results were found from the analysis. First, girl's achievement motivation was higher than boys. No age difference was found between fifth and sixth grade. Second, boy's and girl's achievement motivation had a positive correlation with perceived competence, intrinsic locus of control, parental support and achievement pressure but a negative correlation with parental marital conflict. Third, important variables predicting boy's and girl's achievement motivation were perceived academic competence, parental achievement pressure and perceived social competence. Important variables predicting boy's individual and social oriented achievement motivation were perceived academic competence and parental achievement pressure. On the other hand, important variables predicting girl's individual oriented achievement motivation were perceived social competence, perceived academic competence, intrinsic locus of control and parental achievement pressure. Important variables predicting girl's social oriented achievement motivation were parental achievement pressure, perceived academic competence and mother's support.
Purpose : This study examines satisfaction of students at the department of Emergency Medical Technology with clinical practice and relationship between motivation of achievement and satisfaction with clinical practice and aims to provide basic materials contributing to the improvement of clinical practice education. Method : It selected 237 students in the second and third grade at the dept. of Emergency Medical and having experience in clinical practice as the subjects, collected data from Sept. 1 to 30, 2007 and analyzed 237 questionnaires collected with SPSS 12.0 program. Result : 1. Degree of motivation of achievement scored 3.46 of full marks of five points and they showed motivation of achievement over average score. Students who entered the dept. of Emergency medical after beginning social career(3.78) showed higher motivation of achievement in the period of entrance and group having will to be volunteer(3.66) showed the highest motivation of achievement in selecting this major. The better personal relationship they have, the greater hospital grade and the higher their transcript, the higher motivation of achievement they have. In the desired area of employment after graduation, first-aid staffs at the field of industry group(3.85) showed the highest motivation of achievement. 2. Degree of their satisfaction with clinical practice scored 3.53 of full marks of five and they showed satisfaction with it over average score. They showed the highest satisfaction in the contents of practice(3.64). 3. There was statistically significant positive correlation between motivation of achievement and satisfaction with clinical practice(r = .165, p < .05). Conclusion : There was statistically significant positive correlation between motivation of achievement and satisfaction with clinical practice. Repeated research through sampling based on probability to generalize relevance of motivation of achievement and satisfaction with clinical practice is needed and further researches on developing program to inspire motivation of achievement in theoretical learning as well as in clinical practice are required.
This study analyzes jow reciprocal relations between the temperament and motivation of managers interact. To know the relationships between achievement motivation and affiliation motivation, this study examines whether or not affiliation-achievement motivation and nonaffiliation-achievement motivation mani- fested in manager group of Jpapn are present in this tested group. Data were obtained by testing 578 male- managers employed in domestic enterprise with Y-G Character and Motivation Test. Structure Vector obtained and applied Canonical Correlation Analysis method is applied as a means to interpret it. From the study, the following results are obtained: First, the affiliation and nonaffiliation-achievement motivation appear in domestic sampled group. Second, the manager with affiliation-achievement motivation is shown to have extroversive character, high-social accommodation, high-emotional stability, whereas the one with nona- ffiliation-achievement motiviation to have introversive character, somewhat low-social accommodation and low- emotional stability. Whether or not these results reappear in the bilingual group remains to be studied further.

The purpose of this study was to examine group differences in paternal behaviors (i.e., paternal connection, paternal punitiveness, and paternal knowledge) within and across three academic achievement levels-low, moderate, and high, and to explore the effects of paternal behaviors on the academic motivation of Chinese adolescents within these three achievement groups. Analyses of variance (ANOVAs) indicated that adolescents with low achievement perceived their fathers as more punitive than teens with moderate and high academic achievement. Regression analyses also revealed that paternal punitiveness (negative) and paternal knowledge (positive) were significant predictors of academic motivation for teens with low levels of academic achievement; while paternal punitiveness was a significant negative predictor of academic motivation among adolescents with moderate achievement. In contrast, for adolescents with high achievement, paternal connection was a positive significant predictor of academic motivation. The present findings provide some evidence that the impact of parental behaviors on teen's motivation varies across adolescent academic achievement levels, which may prove useful for professionals working with fathers to help target the most effective parenting behaviors to foster academic motivation.
The main purpose of this study was to examine the effects of maternal achievement pressure and emotional support on adolescents' achievement motivation. A total of 241 adolescents in the second grade of two middle schools in Seoul and their mothers participated in the study, and completed questionnaires on mothers' achievement pressure and emotional support. Adolescents also answered a questionnaire on achievement motivation. Sohn's(1997) Achievement Pressure Scale, Sung's(1993) Social Support Scale and Hermans'(1970) Prestatie Motivatie Scale were used for this survey. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficients, t-tests, regressions, and one-way ANOVA with Duncan's multiple range tests. Results showed that maternal achievement pressure and emotional support and adolescents' achievement motivation did not vary as a function of sex. Maternal achievement pressure and emotional support had positive effects on achievement motivation of adolescents, and maternal achievement pressure played a more influential role on the motivation of adolescents than emotional support. Among four groups divided by the level of maternal achievement pressure and emotional support, high/high, high/low, low/high, and low/low, adolescents in the high/high group were perceived to have the highest achievement motivation. Findings suggest that both maternal achievement pressure and emotional support are important in improving adolescents' achievement motivation.
This study has attempted to find the teaching methods for the elementary students with low science achievement by examining the differences of science learning motivation, academic stress and stress coping styles and the characteristics shown in the relationship between them. To achieve this, the differences of science learning motivation, academic stress and stress coping styles of the elementary students with low science achievement and their relationship was set up as a study problem. A science learning motivation using a science learning motivation questionnaire reconfigured with PALS along with underachievers diagnosis were measured targeting 660 elementary students located in Seoul. Using an academic stress questionnaire and stress coping style questionnaire, an academic stress and stress coping styles were measured. The results of analyzing the collected data are as follows. First, a science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement was lower than the general students but the academic stress was shown higher. Especially, the self-efficacy of science learning motivation was significantly lower and the school stress was highest. For stress coping styles, a tendency of passive and avoidment coping styles were shown higher than the general students. Second, among the science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement, the self-efficacy motivation and school stress have shown a negative correlation but had a positive correlation with the goal-oriented motivation centered on ability. In the correlation between the science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement and the stress coping styles, the pursuit of social support coping styles have shown a significant positive correlation with the science learning motivation and its subcategories. As a result of conducting a regression analysis on the influence of academic stress and stress copying styles on the science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement, among the academic stresses, the school stress was shown to have the biggest influence. Among the stress coping styles, the pursuit of social support coping styles had the biggest influence on the science learning motivation followed by active coping behaviors, passive and avoidment coping behaviors. Low science learning motivation as underachievement factors of elementary students with low science achievement was identified as having a relationship with high school stress and undesirable stress copying styles. Therefore, guidance and a program are required for the elementary student with low science achievement to have desirable stress coping methods on the stressful situations. In addition, for the improvement of science learning motivation, a learning environment is needed for the elementary students with low science achievement with seeking of relevant educational methods.
Objectives: Previous research on turnover has been conducted from the organization's perspective. However, for the long-term retention of dental hygienists, it is necessary to conduct research from an individual's perspective. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of achievement motivation on the intention to stay of dental hygienists. Methods: This study conducted an online survey targeting dental hygienists working in dental healthcare institutions, using convenience sampling from September, 2023. The analysis included 152 participants with long-term work experience and 121 participants with shorter work experience. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to identify factors influencing retention intentions (PASW Statistics ver. 23.0, p<0.05). Results: Factors influencing intention to stay for long-term dental hygienists included the number of dental hygienists and achievement motivation (responsibility, challenge, task orientation), with a significant impact (adj. R2=0.317). For shorter-term dental hygienists, achievement motivation (challenge, task orientation) demonstrated a significant impact (adj. R2=0.164). Conclusions: It was observed that intrinsic factors, particularly achievement motivation, had a significant impact on intention to stay. Consequently, exploring strategies to satisfy intrinsic motivation, such as achievement motivation, is deemed necessary.
Attitudes toward target language culture and motivation have been known as important factors in second or foreign language learning. In this study, cadets' attitudes toward the target language community and culture were investigated to find out any relationships with English achievement. Integrative or instrumental motivation in foreign military context was investigated to determine which motivation was more positively related to English proficiency. Cadets' responses were shown highly positive and internally consistent in most cases. Military cadets' attitudes toward American culture were statistically significant and could predict their English achievement. Even though integrative motivation was statistically significant, correlation with English achievement was low. However, instrumental motivation was not significant. This result implies that attitudes toward culture is an important factor in foreign language learning and integrative-instrumental motivation dichotomy might not be enough to explain specific context like cadets' English learning situation at Korea Army Academy at Youngcheon.
This study was aimed at investigating the gender differences in the relationships among parental attachment, educational gender egalitarianism, and achievement motivation in university students in Korea. A total of 338 students from the Seoul and Kyungnam areas participated in this study. The results found that male students showed lower levels of mother attachment and educational egalitarianism and higher levels of achievement motivation compared to female students. For female students, parental attachment and educational egalitarianism were significantly correlated with achievement motivation; however, no such relationships were detected in male students. For male students, social and demographic variables were more predictive of achievement motivation than attachment or educational egalitarianism.
