  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to understand the important characteristics of mobile content services and to provide better content services to Chinese consumers by understanding consumer behavioral psychology about mobile content services and empirically analyzing research models with perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, customer attitudes, and repurchase intentions based on motivation theory. Design/methodology/approach Based on Deci(1975) Self-Determination Theory and Heijden(2004) research model, this study developed a research framework that includes perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment to influence on repurchase intention. A questionnaire survey was conducted targeting Chinese consumers using mobile content services, and 272 valid responses were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Findings According to the results of empirical analysis in this study, Chinese consumers were found to feel repurchase intention by positive impact of perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment in the use of mobile content service. Chinese consumers still use mobile content a lot from a utilitarian perspective in relation to social life or job performance, and there is no positive effect on the use of mobile content related to perceived enjoyment. The results of this study provide the empirical results of a research model that integrates motivation theory and technology acceptance theory for the development of the mobile content industry in the future, and provide necessary insights for managers of companies that develop and distribute mobile content service.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop a motivation-enhancing self-management program and apply to rural aged with hypertension to evaluate the applicability of the Program. Methods: The motivation-enhancing self-management program was on the evidence of Orem's self-care theory and Ford's Motivational system theory which consists of group education and tele-coaching conducted 12-week. The program evaluation was done by structured questionnaires of motivation (self-efficacy, perceived benefit, perceived barrier and emotional salience), self-care and blood pressure. There were totally 31 aged with hypertension in 2 rural areas enrolled in the program. Results: There was only perceived benefit statistically significant between the intervention and control group (t=2.05, p=.04) and self-care level was no difference between the two groups (t=0.21, p=.84) after program. But there are statistically significant differences of systolic blood pressure between the intervention and control group(t=-2.62, p=.01). Conclusion: The motivation-enhancing self-management program is necessary for the rural aged with hypertension, but it's needed modify and revise in the future study.

  • Quantified-self technologies (QSTs) provide functions for users to collect, track, and monitor personal data for self-reflection and acquisition of self-knowledge. Although QSTs require prolonged use to reap the attendant benefits, many users stop using their devices or tracking within weeks or months. To address this issue, this study seeks to determine ways to sustain the use of QSTs. Combining motivational affordance theory with technology continuance theory, this study develops a theoretical model that accounts for an individual's continued intention to use a QST. Within the proposed model, unique QST affordances were identified as antecedents of individual motivation in relation to technology continuance, and their different roles in stimulating hedonic, utilitarian, and eudaimonic motivations were examined. The model was tested using data collected from 180 QST users. Results demonstrate that although utilitarian and eudaimonic motivations are complementary forces in determining continuance intention, hedonic motivation loses its predictive power in favor of eudaimonic motivation. Tracking, visualizing, and sharing affordances play different roles in elevating user motivations. The sharing affordance does not influence utilitarian and eudaimonic motivations, but it positively influences hedonic motivation. This research contributes to the literature on technology continuance by shifting scholarly attention from hedonic-utilitarian duality to eudaimonic motivation, characterized by meaning, self-growth, and pursuit of excellence.

  • This study examined what determinants affect the intention of retweeting on Twitter from the perspectives of motivations and social psychology. The primary theoretical foundations are the theory of reasoned action (TRA), motivation theory and social capital theory. An online survey was administrated to collect the data. The data collected was analyzed using the structural equation model (SEM). The findings showed that both the attitude toward the retweeting behavior and subjective norm have significant effects on the intention to retweet. The results also showed that the attitude toward the retweeting behaviors was influenced by the individual intrinsic motivation and the norm of reciprocity. Social trust also had a significant influence on the intention to retweet. This study discusses the implications of these findings.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to grasp the factors influencing domestic SNS users' privacy protection behavior and verify their relationship through self-efficacy and responsiveness. Thus, this study tries to suggest efficient and effective measures for SNS personal information protection. Design/methodology/approach To this end, with main variables of the protection motivation theory based on the assumption that when users are exposed to the threat to their health, they would have protection motivation and change their behavior of protecting their health, a research model was suggested. In addition, in order to empirically verify the research model, a survey was performed targeting general college students having the experience of using SNS. Findings As a result of the analysis, first, perceived effectiveness and self-efficacy had a positive effect on responsiveness. Second, perceived barrier had a positive effect on self-efficacy. Third, self-efficacy and responsiveness had a positive effect on privacy protection behavior. This study is expected to contribute to establishing an effective guideline for measures that could induce SNS users' privacy protection behavior.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to verify motivations of corporate Facebook usage and to examine the impacts of usage motivations on brand attachment, trust and loyalty. Design/methodology/approach A conceptual model is developed based on Self-determination theory(SDT) and the previous studies. We conducted a web survey with a convenient sample of 121 Facebook users who clicked "Like" button on the corporate Facebook pages. Findings The followings are the findings of the study. First, intrinsic motivation(Entertainment) turned out to have positive effects on brand attachment. Second, extrinsic motivation(information exchange) turned out to have positive effects on brand trust. Third, brand attachment turned out to have positive effects on brand loyalty. These findings provide a valuable basis for constructing an explanatory model for "Like"-clicking behaviors of corporate's Facebook community platform users, as well as making significant practical contributions to enhance social and commercial benefits for businesses and individuals.

  • With the increasing use of social media, the occurrence of cyber crimes on social media has also increased. In this paper, we focus on online sexual harassment among various cyber crimes and discuss how social media users use social media to avoid online sexual harassment. Drawing on threat avoidance theory, the factors affecting avoidance motivation were identified. Avoidance motivation was measured based on the affordance of social media, and the influence of the degree of sexualization was tested to examine how environmental factors affect motivation behavior. The results indicated that the more users perceived sexualization on social media, the lower their motivation to avoid sexual harassment. Thus, it is important to create an atmosphere on social media where crime is minimized, and users are able to respond appropriately by continuously managing their accounts on these platforms.

  • This study is to investigate, from the perspective of implicit theory, what elements influence children's motivation to learn and how their configurations are different according to different sexes. One analysis was based on answers to a motivation questionnaire by fourth to sixth graders from four different cities in South Korea. The subjects children were most highly motivated to learn were math and science for boys, and math and English for girls, respectively. Factors influencing the motivation were near 30 in number, including later happier life, joy of learning, parental rewards, pleasure of being informed, and meeting parental expectations, among others. Another analysis was an exploratory and confirmative factor analysis on motivation to learn among 856 fourth to sixth graders randomly sampled from 7 different cities all over South Korea. Factors revealed to contribute to the motivated learning here were five factors of utility, interest, recognition, knowledge acquisition(being informed), and expectancy sufficiency. There were some differences in the structure of factors between sexes; importance was given to five factors of utility, interest, recognition, knowledge acquisition, and expectancy sufficiency in descending order for boys, and six factors of interest, utility, rewards, recognition, expectancy sufficiency, and competition for girls.

  • The purposes of the study are to recognize importance of motivation in math education and to increase interest in students' motivation problem by comparing math motivation between mathematically gifted and non-gifted 5th graders based on Keller's ARCS theory and analyzing correlations between math motivation, mathematically affective characteristics and mathematical achievements. For this purpose, 436 students who were mathematically gifted and non-gifted 5th grade students were asked to take questionnaires and test to measure math motivation, mathematically affective characteristics and mathematical achievements. After analyzing the data, there are statistically differences in three educational factors between two groups. In addition, there are correlations between three educational factors. This study revealed that highly motivated students showed positive mathematically affective characteristics and high mathematical achievements. As results indicate that motivation could be a crucial factor in learning, teachers should consider motivation strategy to plan students' lessons regarding to learners' giftedness.

  • Purpose: Given the importance of sun protection in the prevention of skin cancer, this study was designed to determine predictors of sun-protective practices among a sample of Iranian female college students based on protection motivation theory (PMT) variables. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 201 female college students in Iran University of Medical Sciences were selected. Demographic and PMT variables were assessed with a 67-item questionnaire. Multiple linear regression was used to identify demographic and PMT variables that were associated with sun-protective practices and intention. Results: one percent of participants always wore a hat with a brim, 3.5% gloves and 15.9% sunglasses while outdoors. Only 10.9% regularly had their skin checked by a doctor. Perceived rewards, response efficacy, fear, self-efficacy and marital status were the five variables which could predict 39% variance of participants intention to perform sun-protective practices. Also, intention and response cost explained 31% of the variance of sun-protective practices. Conclusions: These predictive variables may be used to develop theory-based education interventions to prevent skin cancer among college students.
