The purpose of this study was to examine: (1) relationships among mothers' attachment experience in childhood, mothers' personality characteristics, and parenting stress and parenting behavior; (2) whether mothers' personality characteristics mediate the relationship between mothers' attachment experience in childhood and parenting stress; and (3) whether mothers' personality characteristics mediate the relationship between mothers' attachment experience in childhood and parenting behavior. The subjects were 177 mothers with preschool children, and the data were collected with questionnaires. It was found that there are correlations among mothers' attachment experience in childhood, mothers' personality characteristics, parenting stress, and parenting behaviors(autonomy encouragement, and rejection). It was found that mothers' attachment experience in childhood predicts mothers' parenting stress, but the relationship is mediated by mothers' personality characteristics. It was also found that mothers' attachment experience in childhood predicts mothers' parenting behavior, but the relationship is mediated by mothers' personality characteristics.

The single mothers' perception of their family function was lower than that of control family mothers in an the 7 categories of FAD. The perceptions of the family function of the single mothers' children were lower than those of control family mothers' children. There was on significant difference between the perceptions of single mothers and their children in PS, ER, EI, GC of their family. However, single mothers' perception in RC and BC was lower than that of their children, and the children's perception in CF were lower than that of their mothers. Single mothers who fall on the period of single motherhood was shorter than 7 years perceived their families' function as lower than that of single mothers' who fall on the periods of single motherhood longer than 7 years in all categories. Generally speaking, the single mothers' family functions were lower than that of control family. The different characteristics of each single mother's family functions should be considered in developing programs for single mothers.

The mothers who had children with and without disabilities got less parenting stress as the mothers received more higher parenting efficacy, parent role satisfaction, marital satisfaction and family support.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the differences between mothers' and grand mothers' picture book reading behavior with children of ages 2 and 4. Methods: Participants were twenty 2 year olds and their mothers/grandmothers as well as twenty 4 year olds and their mothers/grandmothers. Forty pairs of children/mothers and children/grandmothers, respectively, were videotaped as they shared reading a picture book together. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, mean, standard deviation, and two-way ANOVA test. Results: Results indicated that mothers' and grandmothers' picture book reading behaviors were significantly different in verbal behavior. Mothers performed more explanation and questioning, while grandmothers performed more limitation, directing, and correcting. As far as non-verbal behavior is concerned, mothers used more physicalgestures, pointing, descriptive gestures, and imitative gestures, whereas grandmothers requested certain actions. Conclusion/Implications: These findings have implications for the importance of the mothers'/grandmothers' roles in shared picture book reading with the child.

Subjects were 206 elementary school children and their mothers in Anjang. Two types of instruments were used in this study. To measure the children's and mothers' self-esteem, SEI(Self-Esteem Inventory) was to used. To measure mothers' facilitative communication levels, "Mothers' Facilitative Communication Scales" was constructed by the researcher. The statistical procedures used for collected data analyses were correlation, one-way ANOVA, multiful regression. The findings are as following: 1. A significant static correlation was found between mothers' self-esteem and children's self-esteem. 2. Also, a significant static correlation was revealed between mothers' facilitative communication level and children's self-esteem. 3. The level of mothers' facilitative communication discloses a significant difference depending upon the mothers' self-esteem. 4. Mothers' level of facilitative communication affected children's self-esteem rather than the mothers' self-esteem.
The purpose of this study was to examine: (1) how mothers generally react to children's negative emotions; (2) whether there were relationships between children's temperament and mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions; (3) whether there were relationships between mothers' depression and parenting stress, and their reactions to children's negative emotions; (4) whether there were relationships between mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions and children's behavior problems; and (5) whether there were relationships between mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions and children's social competence. The subjects were 246 preschoolers and their mothers. It was found that emotion-focused socialization and problem-focused socialization were the most frequently used reactions by mothers to cope with children's negative emotions. Relationships between children's temperament and mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions, those between mothers' depression and parenting stress and their reactions to children's negative emotions, those between mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions and children's behavior problems, and those between mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions and children's social competency were all partially significant. Sex differences were found in some of the relationships found significant.
This study examined effects of demographic characteristics, mothers' perceived social pressure regarding their children's education, social conspicuousness, competitiveness, and self-esteem on the mothers' fervor for their children's education. These effects were analysed separately by residential area. A total of 231 mothers who had children attend middle school at Mok-dong and Ahyun-dong surveyed by questionnaire. There were significant differences based on the mothers' residential area. Mok-dong mothers have a higher perceived social pressure about child education, self-esteem, education fervor for their child, and monthly income and fathers' and mothers' education level than Ahyun-dong mothers. In Mok-dong mothers, only demographic characteristics of the family significantly explained the mothers' education fervor. Specifically, monthly income and fathers' education level were positively related to education fervor of Mok-dong mothers. Ahyun-dong mothers' social pressure about child education and self-esteem significantly explained mothers' education fervor for their child after controlling their demographic characteristics. Specifically, positive social pressure and positive self-esteem were positively related to mothers' education fervor about their child.
The purpose of this study was to investigate factors related to the parental role in satisfaction and parenting behaviors. The subjects were 102 employed mothers and 110 unemployed mothers of 5-year-old children living in Seoul, Korea. The measures were questionnaire, the Parental Role Satisfaction Scale and the Parenting Behaviors Scale. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, frequency, percentile, mean, correlation, multiple regression and Chow-test. Consistent with Belsky's model of the determinants of parenting, the parental role satisfaction and parenting behaviors of both employed and unemployed mothers were influenced by child characteristics, parent characteristics, and family factors. Results showed that the parental role satisfaction of both employed and unemployed mothers was correlated to child's birth order, temperament and health of child, mothers' and fathers' age, fathers' educational level, and family income. Parenting behaviors were also correlated to sex of child, child's birth order, temperament of child, parental educational level, and family income for employed mothers and to health of child, mothers' and fathers' age, mothers' educational level, and family income for unemployed mothers. Especially, father's age for employed mothers, and child's temperament for unemployed mothers, were the most strongly related variables for parental role satisfaction. On the other hand, family income for employed mothers, and fathers' age for unemployed mothers were the most strongly related variables for parenting behaviors.
