  • For a given number field K, we show that the ranks of elliptic curves over K are uniformly finitely bounded if and only if the weak Mordell-Weil property holds in all (some) ultrapowers $^*K$ of K. We introduce the nonstandard weak Mordell-Weil property for $^*K$ considering each Mordell-Weil group as $^*{\mathbb{Z}}$-module, where $^*{\mathbb{Z}}$ is an ultrapower of ${\mathbb{Z}}$, and we show that the nonstandard weak Mordell-Weil property is equivalent to the weak Mordell-Weil property in $^*K$. In a saturated nonstandard number field, there is a nonstandard ring of integers $^*{\mathbb{Z}}$, which is definable. We can consider definable abelian groups as $^*{\mathbb{Z}}$-modules so that the nonstandard weak Mordell-Weil property is well-defined, and we conclude that the nonstandard weak Mordell-Weil property and the weak Mordell-Weil property are equivalent. We have valuations induced from prime numbers in nonstandard rational number fields, and using these valuations, we identify two nonstandard rational numbers.

  • Let J be the Jacobian variety of a hyperelliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$. Let M be the field generated by all square roots of rational integers over a finite number field K. Then we prove that the Mordell-Weil group J(M) is the direct sum of a finite torsion group and a free $\mathbb{Z}$-module of infinite rank. In particular, J(M) is not a divisible group. On the other hand, if $\widetilde{M}$ is an extension of M which contains all the torsion points of J over $\widetilde{\mathbb{Q}}$, then $J(\widetilde{M}^{sol})/J(\widetilde{M}^{sol})_{tors}$ is a divisible group of infinite rank, where $\widetilde{M}^{sol}$ is the maximal solvable extension of $\widetilde{M}$.

  • We give an explicit formula for the Mordell-Weil rank of an abelian fibered variety and some of its applications for an abelian fibered $hyperk{\ddot{a}}hler$ manifold. As a byproduct, we also give an explicit example of an abelian fibered variety in which the Picard number of the generic fiber in the sense of scheme is different from the Picard number of generic closed fibers.

  • Let F be a periodic singular fiber of genus g with dual fiber F*, and let T (resp. T*) be the set of the components of F (resp. F*) by removing one component with multiplicity one. We give a formula to compute the determinant | det T | of the intersect form of T. As a consequence, we prove that | det T | = | det T*|. As an application, we compute the Mordell-Weil group of a fibration f : S → ℙ1 of genus 2 with two singular fibers.
