  • The phenomenon of wave diffraction due to structure is an important factor in the wave climate at the site As an approximation, the propagation characteristics of a regular wave train are usually used. instead of those of irregular waves. However, there are great differences between the diffraction coefficients of the irregular waves and monochromatic waves, as shown by Goda (1985). The spectral calculation method. one of the methods to deal with the transformation of random sea waves essentially consists of decomposing a spectrum of the irregular sea state Into various monochromatic components, and assembling the component results by linear superposition. Monoch romatic wave transformation model developed by Chen(1987) is used to make spectral calculation. These calculations agree closely with Goda et al. (1978)'s diffraction diagram for a thin semi-infinite breakwater.

  • A tabletop ultrafast soft x-ray has been generated from the laser-produce plasma with a femtosecond pulsed Ti:Sapphire laser. The estimated total flux of Al $K{\alpha}$ is of $2.2{\times}10^9photons/sec$ in $4{\pi}$ radian and the parameters related to the optical performance were obtained. The tungsten/silicon multilayer, flat quartz and bent thallium acid phthalate (TLAP) crystal were used for monochromatization of soft x-ray to refine the aluminum $K{\alpha}$ radiation and compared the respective value of $E/{\Delta}E$. To estimate the size of the x-ray source beam generated by a fs laser, the approximation using the FWHM obtained from the x-ray beam scan near the focal point was discussed, and the size of the diameter was about $9.76{\mu}m$.

  • This study investigates the characteristics of stem waves along a vertical wall generated by obliquely incident monochromatic waves through laboratory experiments conducted in a wave basin and numerical simulations using parabolic approximation equations. The investigation is focused on the nonlinear effect of incident waves on the propagation characteristics of stem waves. Numerical results are compared with laboratory measurements and good agreements are obtained. The main results of this study show that the normalized stem wave height along the wall decreases and the stem width increases as the angle of incident waves decreases or the nonlinearity of the incident waves increases.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effects of energy level, reconstruction kernel, and tube rotation time on Hounsfield unit (HU) values of hydroxyapatite (HA) in virtual monochromatic images (VMIs) obtained with dual-energy computed tomography (DECT)(Siemens Healthineers, Erlangen, Germany). Materials and Methods: A bone density calibration phantom with 3 HA inserts of different densities(CTWATER®; 0, 100, and 200 mg of HA/㎤) was scanned using a twin-beam DECT scanner at 120 kVp with tube rotation times of 0.5 and 1.0 seconds. The VMIs were reconstructed by changing the energy level (with options of 40 keV, 70 keV, and 140 keV). In order to investigate the impact of the reconstruction kernel, virtual monochromatic images were reconstructed after changing the kernel from body regular 40 (Br40) to head regular 40 (Hr40) in the reconstruction phase. The mean HU value was measured by placing a circular region of interests (ROIs) in the middle of each insert obtained from the VMIs. The HU values were compared with regard to energy level, reconstruction kernel, and tube rotation time. Results: Hydroxyapatite density was strongly correlated with HU values(correlation coefficient=0.678, P<0.05). For the HA 100 and 200 inserts, HU decreased significantly at increased energy levels(correlation coefficient= -0.538, P<0.05) but increased by 70 HU when using Hr40 rather than Br40 (correlation coefficient=0.158, P<0.05). The tube rotation time did not significantly affect the HU(P>0.05). Conclusion: The HU values of hydroxyapatite were strongly correlated with hydroxyapatite density and energy level in VMIs obtained with DECT.

  • Fundamental study on quasi-monochromatic parallel radiography using a polycapillary plate and a plane-focus x-ray tube is described. The x-ray generator consists of a negative high-voltage power supply, a filament (hot cathode) power supply, and an x-ray tube. The negative high-voltage is applied to the cathode electrode, and the transmission type target (anode) is connected to the ground potential. The maximum voltage and current of the power supply were -100 kV (peak value) and 3.0 mA, respectively. In this experiment, the tube voltage was regulated from 20 to 25 kV, and the tube current was regulated by the filament temperature and ranged from 1.0 to 3.0 mA. The exposure time is controlled in order to obtain optimum film density, and the focal spot diameter was about 10 mm. The polycapillary plate is J5022-21 made by Hamamatsu Photonics Inc., and the outside and effective diameters are 87 and 77 mm, respectively. The thickness and the hole diameter of the polycapillary are 1.0 mm and 25 ${\mu}$m, respectively. The x-rays from the tube are formed into parallel beam by the polycapillary, and the radiogram is taken using an industrial x-ray film of Fuji IX 100 without using a screen. In the measurement of image resolution, we employed three brass spacers of 2, 30, and 60 mm in height. By the test chart, the resolution fell according to increases in the spacer height without using a polycapillary. In contrast, the resolution slightly fell with corresponding increases in the height by the polycapillary. In angiography, fine blood vessels of about 100 ${\mu}$m are clearly visible.

  • The bragg reflection of obliquely incident monochromatic water waves propagating over a sinusoidally varying topography is theoretically investigated in this study. The eigenfunction expansion method is first employed to calculate reflection coefficients of water waves due to depth changes. A reasonable agreement is observed. Obtained reflection coefficients of normally incident waves are compared with laboratory measurements. Reflection coefficients of obliquely incident waves are then calculated. The wavenumber providing the Bragg reflection agrees well with analytical predictions.

  • This paper has been studied a method that effectively displaying color image to monochromatic display such as PDA and movable-phone. Generally, the Floyd-Steinberg dithering algorithm has been used in this area and its' effectiveness were well known. But it shows some ugly patterns in white area and also shows some directionality in vertical and horizontal directions. To reduce those directionality, I suggest the error diffusion direction to be rotated randomly according to the bit value of the current position. This can also mitigate some ugly pattern in white area

  • The effective temperatures, $T_{eff}$ (flux) of 52 early type stars are derived from de-reddened monochromatic and integrated fluxes obtained by absolute spectrophotometry, using the method of graphical analysis pioneered by Blackwell and Shallis (1977), similar to that of Underhill (1982) and Tobin (1983). We also estimated the effective temperatures, $T_{eff}$ (comp) of the same stars by comparing their de-reddened energy distributions with those of the LTE model atmospheres by Kurucz (1979). The effective temperatures derived from these two methods are found to be in good agreement, confirming that they are effective for the estimation of effective temperatures of early type stars.

  • Refraction tomography requires an algorithm for efficiently computing the traveltimes and their $Fr\'{e}chet$ derivatives. We have attempted to solve the damped wave field using the frequency domain finite element model ing and then invoked the reciprocity theorem to calculate the $Fr\'{e}chet$ derivative of the traveltime with respect to the subsurface parameter. Then, we used a damped least square method to invert the traveltimes of the Marmousi 2 model. Numerical tests demonstrate that the refraction tomography with large aperture data can be used to estimate the smooth velocity model for the prestack depth migration.
