  • The present study evaluated effect of temperature on removals of organic matter (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in Modified-Dephanox (M-Dephanox) process, which is hybrid system, comparing with those of Modified-Ludzack Ettinger (MLE) under the suspended-growth bacteria, as control. M-Dephanox process was more stable than MLE process in the removal of C, N, P, especially in nitrification, as the temperature was decreased from $25^{\circ}C$ to $16^{\circ}C$. As the temperature was decreased from $25^{\circ}C$ to $16^{\circ}C$, the removal efficiency of $NH_4{^+}-N$ of M-Dephanox process was decreased by 3.8%, but that of MLE process decreased by 25.7%. T-N removal efficiency of M-Dephanox was higher than MLE process by 27.1% and 26.9% at $25^{\circ}C$ and $16^{\circ}C$ of temperature, respectively.

  • In this paper, we shall derive MLE's, modified MLE, MRE and UMVUE's of the shape and scale parameters in a generalized uniform distribution, and propose several estimators for the right-tail probability in a generalized uniform distribution using the proposed estimators for the shape and scale parameters. And we shall compare exactly MSE of the proposed estimators for the shape and the scale parameters, and compare numerically efficiencies for the several proposed estimators of the right-tail probability in a generalized uniform distribution by Monte Caslo methods.

  • Maximum likelihood estimate(MLE) is obtained from the partial log-likelihood function for the cell probabilities of two way incomplete contingency tables proposed by Chen and Fienberg(1974). The partial log-likelihood function is modified by adding lagrangian multiplier that constraints can be incorporated with. Variances of MLE estimators of population proportions are derived from the matrix of second derivatives of the loglikelihood with respect to cell probabilities. Simulation results, when data are missing at random, reveal that Complete-case(CC) analysis produces biased estimates of joint probabilities under MAR and less efficient than either MLE or MI. MLE and MI provides consistent results under either the MAR situation. MLE provides more efficient estimates of population proportions than either multiple imputation(MI) based on data augmentation or complete case analysis. The standard errors of MLE from the proposed method using lagrangian multiplier are valid and have less variation than the standard errors from MI and CC.

  • In this study, the optimal operation parameters of MLE(Modified Ludzack-Ettinger) process treating the liquid supernatant separated from the slurry excreta of swine feedlot was studied as a promising biological treatment process. The nitrogen removal characteristics with different volume ratio between nitrification and denitrification reactor and the operational effect with different nitrogen loading rate, and different C/N($COD_{Cr}/TKN$) ratio were investigated. Based on the laboratory results, pilot MLE plant was operated to examine the effect of ambient temperature for five months including winter. The denitrification reactor which is 20% of total volume was proposed as the most optimal volume fraction for nitrification and denitrification. The optimum ratios of F/M and $F_N/M$ were increased with increase of the C/N ratio. However, optimum F/M ratio was changed more rapidly than $F_N/M$ ratio with increase of the C/N ratio. Therefore, MLE process is desirable to be controlled by F/M ratio in the range of high C/N ratio and by $F_N/M$ ratio in the range of low C/N ratio. Pilot MLE plant showed the higher removal efficiencies of COD and TKN in winter than in summer and was operated most stably at the temperature of $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ for mixed liqour.

  • This study examined a radar signal active cancelation technique, which is a theoretical way of achieving stealth by employing a baseband process that involves sampling the incoming hostile radar signal, analyzing its characteristics, and generating countermeasure signals to cancel out the linear-FM signal of the hostile radar signal reflected from the airborne target. To successfully perform an active cancelation, the effects of errors in the countermeasure signal were first analyzed. To generate the countermeasure signal that requires very fast and accurate processing, the down-sampling technique with the suboptimal maximum likelihood estimation (sMLE) scheme was proposed to improve the speed of the estimation process while preserving the estimation accuracy. The simulation results showed that the proposed down-sampling technique using a 2048 FFT size yields substantial power reduction despite its small FFT size and exhibits similar performance to the sMLE scheme using the 32768 FFT size.

  • In this paper we derive the higher order expansions of the first four cumulants of multi-dimensional Maximum Likelihood Estimator (MLE) under the general parametric model up to and including terms of order O({{{{ {n }^{-1 } }}}}) Also we obtain the explicit form of the expansion of the normalizing trans formation of multi-dimensional MLE and show that the suggested normalizing process is much better than the normal approximation based on central limit theorem through example.

  • We propose a sequential method to construct approximate confidence limits for the ratio of two independent sequences of binomial variates with unequal sample sizes. Due to the nonexistence of an unbiased estimator for the ratio, we develop the procedure based on a modified maximum likelihood estimator (MLE). We generalize the results of Cho and Govindarajulu (2008) by defining the sample-ratio when sample sizes are not equal. In addition, we investigate the large-sample properties of the proposed estimator and its finite sample behavior through numerical studies, and we make comparisons from the sample information view points.
