This work describes the development of a numerical module with a multiphysics structure to simulate the thermo-hydro-chemo-mechanical behavior of compacted bentonites. First, the conceptual model, based on the state-of-the-art formulation for clay-based engineered barriers in deep geological repositories, is described. Second, the advantages of multiphysics-based modules are highlighted. Then, the guidelines to develop a code using such tools are outlined, presenting an example of implementation. Finally, the simulation of three tests that illustrate the behavior of compacted bentonites assesses the scope of the developed code. The satisfactory results obtained, and the relative simplicity of implementation, show the opportunity of the modeling strategy proposed.
In the product design process computer-aided engineering and optimization tolls are widely utilized in order to reduce the total development time and cost. Since several simulation tools are involved in the process, information losses, omissions, or errors are common and the importance of seamless information exchange among the tools has been increased. In this work, ISO STEP standards are adopted to represent the neutral format for structural analysis and optimization. The schema of AP209 defined the information of finite element analysis is used and the new schema is proposed to describe the information of structural optimization based on the STEP methodology. The schema is implemented by EXPRESS, information modeling language, and ST-Developer is employed to generate C++ classes and STEP Rose Library by using the schema denoted. To substantiate the proposed approach, the information access interfaces of the finite element modeling software (FEMAP), structural optimization software(GENESIS) and in-house topology optimization program are developed. Examples are shown to validate the information exchange of finite element analysis and structural optimization using STEP standards.
This study intends to develop an evacuation simulation system based on BIM in a real-time manner. The proposed system, an add-on module for Revit Architecture and one of the most popular BIM authoring tools, supports the architectural design as well as real-time evacuation simulation of the design alternatives. This paper introduces the developed system, named SafeBIM, and the design process on which it is based. To evaluate the possibilities of the proposed system in the educational field of architectural design, this study included a feasibility test with college students in an architectural design studio.
In order to control thermal deformation of the machine origin of machine tools a empirical model and a compensation system have been developed, Prior to empirical modeling the volumetric error considering shape errors and joint errors of slides is formulated through the homogeneous transformation matrix (HTM) and kinematic chain. Simulation results of the HTM method show that the thermal error of the machine origin is more critical than position-dependent errors. In order to make a stable and effective software error compensation system the GMDH (Group Method of Data Handling) models are constructed to estimate the thermal deformation of the machine origin by measuring deformation data and temperature data. A test bar and gap sensors are used to measure the deformation data. In order to compensate the estimated error the work origin shift method is developed by implementing a digital I/O interface board between a CNC controller and an IBM PC. The method shifts the work origin as much as the amounts which are calculated by the pre-established thermal error model. The experiment results for a vertical machining center show that the thermal deformation of the machine origin is reduced within $\pm$5$mu extrm{m}$.
This paper presents a simple method for estimating the maximum crosstalk noise of on-chip grobal wires. For the derivation of the maximum crosstalk expression we have modeled wires using lumped-elements that are composed of R, L and C. We have also used experimental constant to reduce the modeling error. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified by comparing against the HSPICE simulation results under the present process parameters and environmental conditions. The results of the proposed method can be used as an estimator in design-aid tools.
About 30% of the total annual energy consumption on the earth is used in the architectural activities, including construction, maintenance management, and demonstration of a building. Also, 40% of the natural resource consumption, 50% of $CO_2$ emissions, and 20%~50% of industrial waste emissions are produced from a building. Unfortunately, the percentage of its energy consumption is staidly increasing year by year, about 8% every year, and it recently causes a sustainable architectural concept to come to the fore globally. Indeed, the importance of the sustainable architecture is increasingly becoming a worldwide trend. BIM(Building Information Modeling) is considered a new paradigm and a powerful method in building design, construction and maintenance. BIM has characteristics similar to a building's systems. All of the components in a model have a parametric relationship to each other. Understanding and capitalizing on these interrelationships typically takes numerous iterations that span multiple projects. Optimizing the integrated strategies and technologies for a high-performance, sustainable design requires a continual look at understanding how they work together to deliver the best potential. Throughout all of these concepts, we are going to be using a variety of tools that revolve around a BIM model. Some of the tools will require a heavier use of BIM than others, but all of them will utilize the model geometry you've created as part of your design. This study presents importance and validity of energy performance analyzation in the pre-design phase for the sustainable architecture with the support of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology.
