  • Vibration characteristics of a vehicle are mainly influenced by dynamic stiffness of the vehicle body structure and material and physical properties of the components attached to the vehicle body structure. In this paper, modeling techniques of the vehicle components are presented and the effects of the vehicle components on the vibration characteristics of the vehicle are investigated.

  • A comparative study was performed on strain-compensated Arrhenius-type constitutive models established with two regression methods: polynomial regression and regression Kriging. For measurements at high temperatures, experimental data of 70Cr3Mo steel were adopted from previous research. An Arrhenius-type constitutive model necessitates strain compensation for material constants to account for strain effect. To associate the material constants with strain, we first evaluated them at a set of discrete strains, then capitalized on surrogate modeling to represent the material constants as a function of strain. As a result, disparate flow stress models were formed via the two different regression methods. The constructed constitutive models were examined systematically against measured flow stresses by validation methods. The predicted material constants were found to be quite accurate compared to the actual material constants. However, notable mismatches between measured and predicted flow stresses were revealed by the proposed validation techniques, which carry out validation with not the entire, but a single tensile test case.

  • Background: Coronary atherosclerosis artery disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) which utilizes the saphenous vein graft, has helped in alleviating the suffering of these patients. Newer techniques are being developed to improve upon the techniques. Still there is significant number of failures, leading to re-grafting or re-vascularization. Some studies have helped in identifying the high and low shear stress regions. Further studies based on their realistic models are required. Material, methods and results: we developed the realistic model of fully blocked right coronary with bypass graft placed at angle of $5^0$ with curvature similar to that of artery. Pulsatile flow of birefringent solution through this model by polarized light was visualized. The images of complete flow field in the model were recorded and analyzed. Regions of high flow disturbances which are prone to further changes are identified. Existence of recirculation in the blocked coronary may initiate new blood-tissue interactions deleterious to bypass graft. Conclusion: Our study shows that by selecting the procedure to place bypass graft at minimum angle with curvature similar to that of artery and smooth sutures may improve the life span of the graft. This study also identified that coronary blocked regions contributing by recirculation flow at the proximal and distal regions of bypass which may require further studies.

  • A bar with periodically nonuniform material properties is selected as a one-dimensional model of a flat-panel speaker. This paper describes a theoretical approach to the bending waves propagating i n the nonuniform bar. The phase speed of the wave is obtained using perturbation techniques for small amplitude, sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidity and mass density. It is shown that the wave speed is decreased due to the nonuniformity of the material properties by the amount proportional to the square of the modulation amplitude. The resonance occurring when the wavelength is half of the period of the material properties is analyzed by the method of multiple scales. It is also shown that the wave speed at the resonance mode is decreased by the amount proportional to the modulation amplitude but the wave of this mode does not propagate far enough due to attenuation.

  • High burn-up transformation process in low temperature nuclear fuel oxides material was observed in the early sixties in LWR $UO_2$ fuels, but not studied in depth. Increasing progressively the fuel discharge burn-up in PWR power plants, this material transformation was again observed in 1985 and identified as an important process to be accounted for in the fuel simulations due to its expected consequence on fuel heat transfer and therefore on the fission gas release. Fission gas release was one of the major concerns in PWR fuels, mainly during transient or accidents events. The behaviour of such a material in case of rod failure was also an important aspect to analyse. Therefore several national and international programs were launched during the last 25 years to understand the mechanisms leading to the high burn-up structure formation and to evaluate the physical properties of the final material. A large observations database has been acquired, using the more sophisticated techniques available in hot cells. This large database is discussed in this paper, providing basis to build an engineering-model, which is based on phenomenological description data and information accumulated. In addition this paper has the ambition to construct the best logical model to understand restructuring.

  • There is not enough mixed finite element method (MFEM) model developed for static and dynamic analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) beams in the literature. The main purpose of this study is to develop a reliable and efficient computational modeling using an efficient functional in MFEM for free vibration and static analysis of FGM composite beams subject to high order shear deformation effects. The modeling of material properties was performed using mixture rule and Mori-Tanaka scheme which are more realistic determination techniques. This method based on the assumption that a two phase composite material consisting of matrix reinforced by spherical particles, randomly distributed in the beam. To explain the displacement components of the shear deformation effects, it was accepted that the shear deformation effects change sinusoidal. Partial differential field equations were obtained with the help of variational methods and then these equations were transformed into a novel functional for FGM beams with the help of Gateaux differential derivative operator. Thanks to the Gateaux differential method, the compatibility of the field equations was checked, and the field equations and boundary conditions were reflected to the function. A MFEM model was developed with a total of 10 degrees of freedom to apply the obtained functional. In the numerical applications section, free vibration and flexure problems solutions of FGM composite beams were compared with those predicted by other theories to show the effects of shear deformation, thickness changing and boundary conditions.

  • This study presents the techniques to manufacture the model concrete and model reinforcement for the 1/5-scale 3-story reinforced concrete frame. The used model concrete has sufficient workability but shows a little lower strength than expected model steel was made of commercial $\phi$3.2mm and $\phi$2.0mm wire by using deforming device and vacuum tube electric furnace. The yield strength can be simulated but it was difficult to simulate the other properties. The load cell was specially manufactured to measure the shear force in the columns of the first story. The carrying frame and the hinge adapter of artificial mass are explained. The special problems in the process of construction of model are also dressed.

  • A GN model with and without energy dissipations is used to discuss the waves propagation in a two-dimension orthotropic half space by the eigenvalues approach. Using the Laplace-Fourier integral transforms to get the solutions of the problem analytically, the basic formulations of the two-dimension problem are given by matrices-vectors differential forms, which are then solved by the eigenvalues scheme. Numerical techniques are used for the inversion processes of the Laplace-Fourier transform. The results for physical quantities are represented graphically. The numerical outcomes show that the characteristic time of pulse heat flux have great impacts on the studied fields values.

  • This work deals with the two-dimensional deformation in a homogeneous isotropic nonlocal magneto-thermoelastic solid with two temperatures under the effects of inclined load at different inclinations. The mathematical model has been formulated by subjecting the bounding surface to a concentrated load. The Laplace and Fourier transform techniques have been used for obtaining the solution to the problem in transformed domain. The expressions for nonlocal thermal stresses, displacements and temperature are obtained in the physical domain using a numerical inversion technique. The effects of nonlocal parameter, rotation and inclined load in the physical domain are depicted and illustrated graphically. The results obtained in this paper can be useful for the people who are working in the field of nonlocal thermoelasticity, nonlocal material science, physicists and new material designers. It is found that there is a significant difference due to presence and absence of nonlocal parameter.
