  • A resistivity method has been applied to wide range of engineering and environmental problems with the help of automatic and precise data acquisition. Thus, more accurate modeling and inversion of time-lapse monitoring data are required since resistivity monitoring has been introduced to quantitatively find out subsurface changes With respect to time. Here, we used the finite element method (FEM) for 3D resistivity modeling since the method is easy to realize complex topography and arbitrary shaped anomalous bodies. In the FEM, the linear elements, also referred to as first order elements, have certain advantages of simple formulation and narrow bandwidth of system equation. However, the linear elements show the poor accuracy and slow convergence of the solution with respect to the number of elements or nodes. To achieve the higher accuracy of finite element solution, high order elements are generally used. In this study, we developed a 3D resistivity modeling program using high order Serendipity elements. Comparing the Serendipity element solutions for a cube model with the linear element solutions, we assured that the Serendipity element solutions are more accurate than the linear element solutions in the 3D resistivity modeling.

  • This study proposed a new procedure of sustainable water resources planning to prevent the urban streamflow depletion, based on the Heathcote's study in 1998: (1) to understand the watershed component and processes, (2) to identify and quantify problems within the watershed, (3) to set clear and specific goals, (4) to develop a list of management options, (5) to eliminate infeasible options, (6) to test the effectiveness of remaining feasible options, and (7) to develop the final options. PSR(Presure-State-Response) concept was used for the determination of indicators of PSD(Potential Streamflow Depletion; step 2) and effect equation (step 7) and composite programming for the calculation of PSD. The instreamflow requirement was proposed as clear and specific goal (step 3) and was determined by the larger of the PHABSIM's environmental flow and the drought flow. A continuous rainfall-runoff model is necessary to test the effectiveness of alternatives. It should estimate not only the exact runoff but also the effect of landuse change, reservoir, infiltration facility and so on like SWAT(Soil and Water Assessment Tool). The proposed procedure will be applied on the corresponding paper.

  • The study shows the possible use of the index flood frequency curves for an estimation of flood quantiles at ungauged locations. Flood frequency analysis were made for the annual maximum flood data series at 9 available stations in the Han river basin. From the flood frquency curve at each station the mean annual flood of 2.33-year return period was determined and the ratios of the flood magnitude of various return period to the mean annual flood at each station were averaged throughout the Han river basin, resulting mean flood ratios of different return periods. A correlation analysis was made between the mean annual flood and physiographic parameters of the watersheds i.e, the watershed area and mean river channel slope, resulting an empirical multiple linear regression equation over the whole Han river basin. For unguaged watershed the flood of a specified return period could be estimated by multiplying the mead flood ratio corresponding the return period with the mean annual flood computed by the empirical formula developed in terms of the watershed area and river channel slope. To verify the applicability of the methodology developed in the present study the floods of various return periods determined for the watershed in the river channel improvement plan formulation by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation(MOCT) were compared with those estimated by the present method. The result proved a resonable agreement up to the watershed area of approximately 2,000k $m^2$. It is suggested that the practice of design flood estimation based on the rainfall-runoff analysis might have to be reevaluated because it involves too much uncertainties in the hydrologic data and rainfall-runoff model calibration.

  • This study was conducted to find out an alternative way of rapid and accurate analysis of forage quality. Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) was used to evaluate the possibility of forage analysis. 175 samples consisted of Italian ryegrass, whole crop barley and pea seeded spring in 2009 were collected. The samples were analyzed for moisture, crude protein (CP), crude ash (CA), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and also scanned using NIRSystem with wavelength from 400~2,500 nm. Multiple linear regression was used with wet analysis data for developing the calibration model and validated unknown samples. The important index in this experiment were SEC, SEP. The r2 value for moisture, CP, CA, ADF, and NDF in calibration set was 0.65, 0.97, 0.93, 0.99, and 0.97 and also was 0.15, 0.94, 0.96, 0.98 and 0.98 in validation set, respectively. The results of this experiment indicates that NIRS was reliable analytical method to assess forage quality for CP, CA ADF and NDF except moisture content in forage when proper samples incorporated into the equation development.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relationship among perceived value, satisfaction and revisit intention for visitors of the Korea National Arboretum. Three hundred respondents were selected by quota sampling, and well-known measurement scales utilized in marketing field were adopted in order to measure three variables with some modification to apply for arboretum visitors. Results of structural equation model showed that perceived value affected visitors' satisfaction, which in turn influenced revisit intention. Specifically, "emotional value" had the most significant influence on satisfaction, followed by "value for money" and "novelty value"; however, "social value" was not an influential construct. Based on calibration results, several strategies were suggested for the effective management. Authors advised that (a)improvement of measurement scale of value, (b)inclusion of self-congruity as antecedent variable to satisfaction, (c)changing revisit intention to word-of-mouth communication as a post-purchase behavioral intention, and (d)implementation of market segmentation should be considered for future research.

  • A study on modeling of medium temperature drops of the elevated-bench hydroponic system for strawberry cultivation during low temperature season was conducted. Four different conditions were used for the experiment. These consisted of two kinds of bed types (plant, V), four kinds of medium (rice, perlite, rice hulls80% and peatmoss20%, perlite80% and peatmoss20%), two kinds of mulched bed (mulched, non mulched) and four kinds of greenhouse air temperature (l.5, 3.2, 5.0, $6.7^{\circ}C$), and the results were summarized as follows: Temperature drop of medium in the V-bed was slower than that in the plant bed, showing better insulation effect of V-bed. Temperature drop of medium with mulching on the top of the bed was slower than the case without mulching, as a result, the beneficial effect of temperature drop was appeared in mulched bed. Linear regression of the temperature descent rate and the temperature difference between medium and air showed significant correlation. The regression equation for the Pearlite80% and Peatmoss20% in the V-bed was f(x) = -0.2656 + 0.1345x at the $R^2$ of 0.9269. Using the model, the temperature drop during night can be predicted for the various media at the different depths.

  • The world faces several issues of energy crisis and environmental deterioration due to over-dependence on single source of which is fossil fuel. Though, fuel is needed as ingredients for industrial development and growth of any country, however the fossil fuel which is a major source of energy for this purpose has always been terrifying thus the need for alternative and renewable energy sources. The search for alternative energy sources resulted into the acceptance of a biofuel as a reliable alternative energy source. This work presents the study of optimization of process of transesterification of vegetable oil to biodiesel using NaOH as catalyst. A $2^4$ factorial design method was employed to investigate the influence of ratio of oil to methanol, temperature, NaOH concentration, and transesterification time on the yield of biodiesel from vegetable oil. Low and high levels of the key factors considered were 4:1 and 6:1 mole ratio, 30 and $60^{\circ}C$ temperatures, 0.5 and 1.0 wt% catalyst concentration, and 30 and 60 min reaction time. Results obtained revealed that oil to methanol molar ratio of 6:1, tranesetrification temperature of $60^{\circ}C$, catalyst concentration of 1.0wt % and reaction time of 30 min are the best operating conditions for the optimum yield of biofuel from vegetable oil, with optimum yield of 95.8%. Results obtained on the characterizzation of the produced biodiesel indicate that the specific gravity, cloud point, flash point, sulphur content, viscosity, diesel index, centane number, acid value, free glycerine, total glycerine and total recovery are 0.8899, 4, 13, 0.0087%, 4.83, 25, 54.6. 0.228mgKOH/g, 0.018, 0.23% and 96% respectively. Results also indicate that the qualities of the biodiesel tested for are in conformity with the set standard. A model equation was developed based on the results obtained using a statistical tool. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) of data shows that mole ratio of ground nut oil to methanol and transesterification time have the most pronounced effect on the biodiesel yield with contributions of 55.06% and 9.22% respectively. It can be inferred from the results various conducted that vegetable oil locally produced from groundnut oil can be utilized as a feedstock for biodiesel production.
