  • In this paper, the fields of double-plane steps in rectangular waveduides are analyzed using the modified TE$_{mn}$$^{x}$ mode-matching method. The characteristics of rectangular waveguide having double-plane steps are investigated with accomdating the effects of higher-order modes generated by discontinuities. In comparison with the generalized TE$_{mn}$-TM$_{mn}$ mode analysis, the modified TE$_{mn}$$^{x}$ mode-matching method consumes less memory and CPU time and provides improved convergence behavior. The results obtained in this manner coinside with that of the TE$_{mn}$-TM$_{mn}$ mode-matching method.

  • There are many works to analyze a simple expansion chamber involving higher order modes. These works are classified to mode matching method, velocity potential method and finite element method. Among these methods, mode matching method has good performance at analyzing a concentric expansion chamber. Generally inlet/outlet pipe cross section area is smaller than middle chamber cross section area. So the number of higher order modes of inlet/outlet pipe can be fewer than that of middle chamber. But mode matching method must use the same number of higher order modes at inlet pipe, middle chamber and outlet pipe. Therefore the redundant modes of inlet/outlet pipe makes the computation time of mode matching method longer. In this paper, the new method, which can select number of each higher order modes of inlet pipe, middle chamber and outlet pipe, was suggested. And this method was compared to conventional mode matching method and finite element method in order to demonstrate the accuracy of the new method and to show that the new method can reduce a calculating time.

  • Multi-port($2{\times}2$port, 1port) rectangular waveguide discontinuity problem has been analyzed by use of $TE^x_{mn}$ (mono)mode matching method. Matrix size can be reduced significantly in comparison with $TE_{mn}&TM_{mn}$(full-wave)mode matching method. the present results is compared with those by CST MicroWave Studio to validate the presint method.

  • In this paper, we applied mode matching and generalized scattering matrix methods to three plane mode matching method for analyzing T-junctions. We calculated all scattering matrix elements by only three times and considered several incident modes. By proposed analysis method, we could analyze various waveguide discontinuity structures more conveniently and accurately. Using the stepped T-junction, we would be able to reduce the reflection coefficient at an input port and use it over wider band. Simulated and HFSS data of T-junctions are compared, showing good agreement for scattering matrix elements. Considering step numbers, height, length and position, we extracted for optimum dimensions and equivalent circuit parameters.

  • In this paper, we present a 20 GHz low-loss dual-mode channel filter designed by using mode matching method. The performance of dual-mode channel filter mainly depends on iris characteristics. Therefore the exact design of iris is the key point to get good frequncy response of the filter. MOde matching technique is widely used ot design several kinds of waveguide filters because it is simple in theory and can easily calculate the scattering matrices at the discontinuities with simple structure like iris coupled filters. Additionally the effect for finite thickness of the iris in the dual-mode cavity iflter is analyzed by te full-wave method, providing the exact filter implementation without trial and error.

  • The acoustic performance of reactive type single expansion chamber can be calculated theoretically by plane wave theory. But higher order model should be considered to widen the frequency range. Mode matching method has been developed to consider higher order modes, but very complicated algebra should be used. Munjal suggested a numerical collocation method, which can overcome the shortcomings of mode matching method, using the compatibility conditions for acoustic pressure and particle velocity at the junctions of area discontinuities. But the restriction of Munjal's method is that the ratio between the area of inlet(or outlet) pipe and that of chamber must be natural number. In this paper, the new method was suggested to overcome the shortcomings of Munjal's method. The predictions by this method was also compared with those by the finite element method and Munjal's method in order to demonstrate the accuracy of the modified method presented here.

  • The acoustic property of reactive type single expansion chamber can be analyzed by traditional plane wave theory. This theory can be applied in low frequency range and has good performance. But this theory can't include higher order modes, therefore another method is essential to analyze acoustic filter in high frequency range. Many researcher suggested the method that can concern higher order modes, and their methods are using mode matching technique. But there is no method that can be applied to the analysis of single expansion chamber with arbitrary inlet/outlet duct position and numbers of higher order modes of inlet/outlet duct and middle chamber. In this paper, the method which can analyze single expansion chamber with arbitrary inlet/outlet duct position and numbers of higher order modes of inlet/outlet duct and middle chamber using fundamental mode matching technique, was suggested and the predictions by this method was compared with those by the finite element method, and the influence of inlet/outlet location to acoustic performance of single expansion chamber is investigated and explained by higher order mode effects.

  • This paper presents a mode-matching analysis of the electromagnetic coupling between open cable trays in an indoor structure when an electric-line current is generated as an electromagnetic source. We validated the mode-matching method by comparing the mode-matching results with those computed from a commercial electromagnetic simulator and then investigated the strength of the electric-field coupled in a victim cable tray while varying the distances between cable trays and architectural surfaces. The results of this study provide geometrical information on the placement of open cable trays to avoid electromagnetic interference problems.

  • In this paper, we present the analysis method for a rectangular waveguide with horizontal conducting post using mode matching method and generalized scattering method. Scattering characteristics of a rectangular waveguide with the horizontal conducting post according to radius and height of the post are simulated by the proposed method. The simulated results by proposed method show good agreement with the measured results and the HFSS's results. Proposed method are easily applied to the design of a waveguide component with horizontal conducting posts.

  • In this paper, we proposed a procedure to analyze a shielded-microstrip step discontinuity using the mode matching method (MMM) combined with the vector finite element method (VFEM), which is used to find the equivalent waveguide-model for a microstrip. In order to calculate the effective-widths and -dielectric permittivity of the equivalent waveguide-model corresponding shielded-microstrip, the propagation constant and characteristic impedance are calculated from the VFEM. MMM is then applied to find the scattering parameter in the planar waveguide. This technique makes it possible to take advantage of the high accuracy of the VFEM as well as the high efficiency of the MMM.
