Improved Genetic Algorithm-Based Damage Detection Technique Using Natural Frequency and Modal Strain Energy (고유진동수와 모드변형에너지를 이용한 향상된 유전알고리즘 기반 손상검색기법)

  • In the genetic algoricm (GA) based damage detection methods using vibration of structures, the selection of modal properties is important to improve the accuracy of damage detection. The objective of this study is to improve the accuracy of damage detection using natural frequency and modal strain energy, The following approaches are used to achieve the goal. First, modal strain energy is formulated and a new GA-based damage detection technique using natural frequency and modal strain energy is proposed. Next, to verify the efficiency of proposed technique, damage scenarios for free-free beam are designed and vibration modal tests of the target structure are conducted. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed technique is verified in comparison with other GA-based damage detection technique using natural frequency and mode shape.

  • The aircrafts with high aspect ratio wings made by a composite material have been developed, which enable high energy efficiency and long-term flight by reducing air resistance and structural weight. However, they have difficulties in securing the aeroelastic stability such as the flutter because of their long and flexible wings. The flutter is unstable self-excited-vibration caused by interaction between the structural dynamics and the aerodynamics. It should be verified analytically prior to first flight test that the flutter does not happen in the range of flight mission. Normally, the finite element model is used for the flutter analysis. So it is important to construct the finite element model representing dynamic characteristics similar to those of a real aircraft. Accordingly, in this research, to acquire dynamic characteristics experimentally the modal test of the aircraft with high aspect ratio composite wings was conducted. And then the modal parameters from the finite element analysis(FEA) were compared with those from the modal test. To make analysis results closer to test results, the finite element model was updated by means of the sensitivity analysis on variables and the optimization. Finally, it was proved that the updated finite element model is reliable as compared with the results of the modal test.

  • The main purpose of this study is to identify the vibrational characteristics for the LP blades of Korean standard fossil power plants. Modal tests for the 6 stage blade with boundary condition in which the root of blades are constrained with the disk were conducted, and FE analysis was also did with the same boundary condition. The steady-stress and modal analyses for the coupled bladed-disk system of LP turbine stages were completed. The dynamic analysis and fatigue analysis were followed to diagnose the integrity of LP turbine blades.

  • Modal analysis is an important and essential process in design of a high speed machining center. Generally, modal analysis of a built-in spindle system has not taken the work piece's shape and dimension into consideration. Since small and long work pieces influence greatly the natural frequency of the entire system, the high speed spindle system which continuously makes small machine parts by long work pieces for improvement of machining time has to consider the machining work pieces. Therefore frequency characteristics of the spindle system with long work pieces are studied in this paper.

  • An unconstrained tuning fork with a 3-D model has been numerically analyzed by Finite Element Method (FEM) and Boundary Element Method (BEM). The first three natural frequencies were calculated by the FEM modal analysis. Then the change of the modal frequencies was examined with the variation of the tuning fork length and width. Analytical model equations were derived from the numerically relating results of the modal frequency-tuning fork length by approximating minimization. Finally the BEM was used for the sound pressure field calculation from the structural displacement data.

Modal Radiation Efficiency of Swaged Panels

  • Swaging technique is frequently used to stiffen thin panels for reducing the vibration levels of the machine or vehicle structure. Because the internal constraints imposed by swages can distort the mode shapes of panels, they affect the sound radiation characteristics. In this paper, the radiated sound field generated by the idealized and baffled finite swaged panel is studied, in which the curved swage section is modeled as an incomplete cylindrical shell. The modal radiation efficiencies are predicted using the transfer matrix concept and compared with those of flat panels. It is observed that the radiation efficiencies of the swaged vibrational modes can increase slightly for frequencies below the critical frequency, while increase of radiation efficiency depends on the mode shapes and other related structural parameters.

  • In order to find out relationship between hit probability and gun firing of a moving tank, a turret and flexible gun system model has been developed using a recursive flexible multibody dynamics. For a firing simulation model, nodal coordinates for a finite element model of a flexible gun have been employed to include transverse loads to the gun tube due to moving bullet and ballistic pressure. Modal coordinates are also used to represent the motion induced gun vibration before a firing occurs. An efficient switching technique from modal equations to nodal equation has been introduced for an entire gun firing simulation with a rotating turret.

  • Gear whine noise of the axle and transmission is getting more important for reduction of vehicle noise, because major noise of vehicle was reduced. Therefore, in this paper, axle noise and vibration is measured, then the modal analysis and running modal analysis is applied for identification of axle gear whine noise. And To reduce axle noise, Various structural modifications are performed by using FEM and BEM techniques.

  • The load distribution to each mode of a structure under seismic loading depends on the modal participation factor. The factor of an idealized analytical model, however, is different to the actual one due to modeling and construction error. Therefore, there exist limits on the estimation of actual behavior. In this study, an identification procedure for participation factor based on vibration test is proposed. The procedure has an advantage that the mode shape vector can also be estimated directly from the participation factor. The numerical simulation using a three story building is performed to evaluate the proposed procedure.
