With the mobile traffic in the network increases exponentially, multi-access edge computing (MEC) develops rapidly. MEC servers are deployed geo-distribution, which serve many mobile terminals locally to improve users' QoE (Quality of Experience). When the cache space of a MEC server is full, how to replace the cached videos is an important problem. The problem is also called the cache replacement problem, which becomes more complex due to the dynamic video popularity and the varied video sizes. Therefore, we proposed a new cache replacement scheme based on local video popularity and video size to solve the cache replacement problem of MEC servers. First, we built a local video popularity model, which is composed of a popularity rise model and a popularity attenuation model. Furthermore, the popularity attenuation model incorporates a frequency-dependent attenuation model and a frequency-independent attenuation model. Second, we formulated a utility based on local video popularity and video size. Moreover, the weights of local video popularity and video size were quantitatively analyzed by using the information entropy. Finally, we conducted extensive simulation experiments based on the proposed scheme and some compared schemes. The simulation results showed that our proposed scheme performs better than the compared schemes in terms of hit rate, average delay, and server load under different network configurations.
Explosive deployment of smart mobile devices such as smart phones, and tablets along with expansion of wireless internet bandwidth have enabled the deployment of mobile video streaming such that video traffic becomes the most important service in wireless networks. Recently, for more efficient video streaming services, the ISO MPEG group standardized a protocol called DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) and the standard has been quickly adopted by many service providers such as YouTube and Netflix. Despite of the convenience of mobile streaming services, users also suffer from low QoE(Quality of Experience) due to dynamic channel fluctuations and unnecessary downloading due to high churning rates. This paper proposes a noble efficient video rate selection algorithm considering user buffer level, channel condition and churning rate. Computer simulation based performance study showed that the proposed algorithm improved the QoE significantly compared to a method that determines the video rate based on current channel conditions. Especially, the proposed method reduced the rebuffering rate, one of the most important performance factors of the QoE, to a nonnegligible level.

Sports video is a very critical information resource. High-precision extraction of effective segments in sports video can better assist coaches in analyzing the player's actions in the video, and enable users to more intuitively appreciate the player's hitting action. Aiming at the shortcomings of the current sports video clip extraction results, such as strong subjectivity, large workload and low efficiency, a classification method of sports video clips based on MobileNetV3 is proposed to save user time. Experiments evaluate the effectiveness of effective segment extraction. Among the extracted segments, the effective proportion is 97.0%, indicating that the effective segment extraction results are good, and it can lay the foundation for the construction of the subsequent badminton action metadata video dataset.
Recently, HTTP Adaptive Streaming(HAS), a video streaming service over the HTTP based web platform has become common. The use of HAS service in mobile communication devices such as mobile phones and tablet PCs is rapidly expanding. This paper addresses ways to improve the quality of HAS service by enhancing the terms of viewer satisfaction. HAS systems have several internal operational processes, which can affect viewer satisfaction. Such processes include, the quality determination for the next video chunk, the TCP connections-setup procedure and the congestion control operation of the TCP. This paper proposes a transmission scheme to improve the HAS quality services over mobile web. The proposed scheme takes into consideration the past implicit communication state of the receiver's playback buffer occupancy. The results of these experiments indicate that the proposed scheme can improve the quality of HAS service from the mobile viewer's point of view.
In this paper, we propose an adaptive multi-view video service framework suitable for mobile environments. The proposed framework generates intermediate views in near-realtime and overcomes the limitations of mobile services by adapting the multi-view video according to the processing capability of a mobile device as well as the user characteristics of a client. By implementing the most of adaptation processes at the server side, the load on a client can be reduced. H.264/AVC is adopted as a compression scheme. The framework could provide an interactive service with efficient video service to a mobile client. For this, we present a multi-view video DIA (Digital Item Adaptation) that adapts the multi-view video according to the MPEG-21 DIA multimedia framework. Experimental results show that our proposed system can support a frame rate of 13 fps for 320{\times}240 video and reduce the time of generating an intermediate view by 20 % compared with a conventional 3D projection method.
This paper proposes a new dynamic video adaptation scheme that could generate an adapted video stream customized to the requesting mobile device and current network status without repeated decode-encode cycles. In the proposed adaptation scheme, the characteristics of the video codec such as MPEG-1/-2/-4 are analyzed in advance focused on the relationships between the size and Quality of the encoded video stream, and they are stored in the proxy as a codec-dependent characteristic table. When a mobile device requests a video stream, it is dynamically decoded-encoded in the proxy with the highest quality to extract the contents-dependent attributes of the requested video stream. By comparing these attributes with codec-dependent characteristic table, the size and Quality of the requested video stream when being adapted to the target mobile device could be predicted. With this prediction, a version of adapted video stream, that meets the size constraints of mobile device while keeping the quality of encoded video stream as high as possible, could be selected without repeated decode-encode cycles. Experimental results show that the errors in our proposed scheme are less than 5% and produce an appropriate adapted video stream very quickly. It could be used t(1 build a proxy server for mobile devices that could quickly transcode the video streams widely spread in Internet which are encoded with various video codecs.
The paper presents a novel embedded multifunctional media sever (EMMS) for mobile devices to receive various media programs. Being different from other contemporary system research, the paper mainly studies how to design a reception solution for terrestrial digital television (DTV) on mobile devices and how to enable mobile devices can receive DTV program, enjoy video-on-demand (VOD), achieve video surveillance and relay Internet video program via local Wi-Fi simultaneously. In the system design, we integrate broadcasting-terrestrial DTV tuner, streaming media re-transmission system, VOD disk, video camera and access interface to the Internet into EMMS, which can either receive terrestrial DTV radio signals and demodulate out digital transport stream (TS), or can read streaming media bit-stream from VOD disk, surveillance camera or access interface to the Internet. The experimental results show the proposed system is stable and quality-efficient. Comparing with the other systems, the proposed system has the least packet loss rate and response time.

With widespread use of the Internet and improvements in streaming media and compression technology, digital music, video, and image can be distributed instantaneously across the Internet to end-users. However, most conventional Digital Right Management are often not secure and fast enough to process the vast amount of data generated by the multimedia applications to meet the real-time constraints. In this paper, we propose the copyright protection using encryption of DCT coefficients and motion vector in MPEG-4 video codec of mobile device. This paper presents a new Digital Rights Management that modifies the Motion Vector of Macroblock for mobile device. Experimental results indicate that the proposed DRM can not only achieve very low cost of the encryption but also enable separable authentication to individual mobile devices such as Portable Multimedia Player and Personal Digital Assistants. The performance of the proposed methods have low complexity and low increase of bit rate in overhead.

Recent network environment has been rapidly evolved to cloud computing environment based on the development of the Internet technologies. Furthermore there is an increasing demand on mobile cloud computing due to explosive growth of smart devices and wide deployment of LTE-based cellular networks. Thus mobile Desktop-as-a-Service(DaaS) could be a pervasive service for nomadic users. In addition, video streaming traffic is currently more than two-thirds of mobile traffic and ever increasing. All such trends enable that video streaming in mobile DaaS could be an important concern for mobile cloud computing. It should be noted that the performance of the Transmission Control Protocol(TCP) on cloud host servers greatly affects Quality of Service(QoS) of video streams for mobile users. With widely deployed Linux server platforms for cloud computing, in this paper, we conduct an experimental analysis of the twelve Linux TCP variants in mobile DaaS environments. The results of our experiments show that the TCP Illinois outperforms the other TCP variants in terms of wide range of packet loss rate and propagation delay over LTE-based wireless links between cloud servers and mobile devices, even though TCP CUBIC is usually used in default in the current Linux systems.

Due to the prevalence of powerful mobile terminals and the rapid advancements in wireless communication technologies, the wireless video streaming service has become increasingly more popular. Recent studies show that video streaming services via Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) are becoming more practical. TCP has more advantages than User Diagram Protocol (UDP), including firewall traversal, bandwidth fairness, and reliability. However, each video service shares an equal portion of the limited bandwidth because of the fair sharing characteristics inherent in TCP and this bandwidth fair sharing cannot always guarantee the video quality for each user. To solve this challenging problem, an Adaptive Multiple TCP (AM-TCP) scheme is proposed in this paper to guarantee the video quality for mobile devices in wireless networks. AM-TCP adaptively controls the number of TCP connections according to the video Rate Distortion (RD) characteristics of each stream and network status. The proposed scheme can minimize the total distortion of all participating video streams and maximize the service quality by guaranteeing the quality of each video streaming session. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly improve the quality of video streaming in wireless networks.
