  • With the growth in electronics and the remarkable advance in wireless communication technology, mobile devices, such as mobile phones and PDAs are incessantly improved in their diverse functional performance. Lighter weight and smaller size has been gradually accomplished by recent circuit integration technology resulting in rapid growth in the number of mobile phone subscribers. Driven by customer demand, recent mobile devices are fully capable of realizing a variety of dazzling multimedia effects powered by electro-acoustic parts that have become one of the generic components. However, this paper also presents an oval micro-speaker, that is expected to show an excellent performance within limited space of mobile phone, and its performance design has been suggested as well. Finally, a statistical approach to achieve high characteristic and performance is suggested by Taguchi method to identify a certain relationship between a mobile phone and a micro-speaker.

  • Lately the usage of multimedia equipment with small LCD displays is rapidly increasing. Although many people use devices like cell phone and PDA, videos intended for TV or HDTV are sent to these mobile devices. Therefore, situation where it is hard for the user to view the desired scenes are growing more frequent. Currently, most services simply reduce the size of the content to fit the screen when they offer it for mobile devices. However, especially with sports broadcasts, there are many areas that cannot be seen very well because it was simply reduced in size. We are suggesting new motion how to let the user choose an area of interest based on Cognitive lattice. And present then sending it to the user in a way based on Focus Of Choice that fits the device.

  • Mobile devices become a pak of our daily life due to their versatility, such as the wireless phone calls, the wireless accessibility to Internet, the display of multimedia content, and the communication with nearby mobile devices. Third generation telecommunication service provides an easy access to the Internet for nubile devices. Mobile users pay a fee charged by the telecommunication provider based on the amount of data transferred. This paper introduces a special ad hoc network in which mobile devices cooperate each other to download an interesting content from the Internet in order to reduce the telecommunication cost. The mobile devices, called the peers, in the ad hoc network are assigned a portion of the target file, and are responsible for downloading the portion using their 3G connection. Then, the peers exchange their downloaded portion with other participating peers using their cost-free ad hoc connection in order to reconstruct the whole content. According to the simulation results, large number of participating peers saves the telecommunication cost up to 90% with as few as 10 peers, although it slightly increase the overall content reconstruction time.

  • The recent progress in multimedia signal processing and transmission technologies has contributed to the extensive use of multimedia devices to watch sports games with small LCD panel. However, the most of video sequences are captured for normal viewing on standard TV or HDTV, for cost reasons, merely resized and delivered without additional editing. This may give the small-display-viewers uncomfortable experiences in understanding what is happening in a scene. For instance, in a soccer video sequence taken by a long-shot camera techniques, the tiny objects (e.g., soccer ball and players) may not be clearly viewed on the small LCD panel. Moreover, it is also difficult to recognize the contents of the scorebox which contains the elapsed time and scores. This renuires intelligent display technique to provide small-display-viewers with better experience. To this end, one of the key technologies is to determine region of interest (ROI) and display the magnified ROI on the screen, where ROI is a part of the scene that viewers pay more attention to than other regions. Examples include a region surrounding a ball in long-shot and a scorebox located in the comer of each frame. In this paper, we propose a scheme for raising viewing experiences of multimedia mobile device users. Instead of taking generic approaches utilizing visually salient features for extraction of ROI in a scene, we take domain-specific approach to exploit unique attributes of the soccer video. The proposed scheme consists of two modules: ROI determination and scorebox extraction. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme offers useful tools for intelligent video display on multimedia mobile devices.

  • The amount of multimedia traffic over the Internet has been increasing because of the development of networks and mobile devices. Accordingly, studies on multicast, which is used to provide efficient multimedia and video services, have been conducted. In particular, studies on centralized multicast tree construction have attracted attention with the advent of software-defined networking. Among the centralized multicast tree construction algorithms, the group Takahashi and Matsuyama (GTM) algorithm is the most commonly used in multiple multicast tree construction. However, the GTM algorithm considers only the network-cost overhead when constructing multicast trees; it does not consider the temporary service disruption that arises from a link change for users receiving an existing service. Therefore, in this study, we propose a multiple multicast tree construction algorithm that can reduce network cost while avoiding considerable degradation of service quality to users. This is accomplished by considering both network-cost and link-change overhead of users. Experimental results reveal that, compared to the GTM algorithm, the proposed algorithm significantly improves the user-experienced quality of service by substantially reducing the number of linkchanged users while only slightly adding to the network-cost overhead.
