Mixture Distributions for Image Denoising in Wavelet Domain (웨이블릿 영역에서 혼합 모델을 사용한 영상 잡음 제거)

  • AWGN(Addictive white gaussian noise)에 의해 영상은 자주 훼손되곤 한다. 최근 이를 복원하기위해 웨이블릿(Wavelet) 영역에서의 베이시안(Bayesian) 추정법이 연구되고 있다. 웨이블릿 변환된 영상 신호의 밀도 함수(pdf)는 표족한 첨두와 긴 꼬리(long-tail)를 갖는 경망이 있다. 이러한 사전 밀도 함수(a priori probability density function)를 상황에 적합하게 추정한다면 좋은 성능의 복원 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 빈번이 제안되는 릴도 함수로 가우시안(Gaussian) 분포 참수와 라플라스(Laplace) 분포 함수가 있다. 이들 각각의 모델은 훌륭히 변환 계수들을 모델링하며 나름대로의 장점을 나타낸다. 본 연구에서는 가우시안 분포와 라플라스(Laplace) 분포의 혼합 분포 모델을 밀도 함수로 제안하여, 이 들의 장점을 종합하였다. 이를 MAP(Maximum a Posteriori) 추정 방법에 적용하여 잡음을 제거 하였다. 그 결과 기존의 알고리즘에 비해 시각적인 면(Visual aspect), 수치적인 면(PSNR), 그리고 연산량(Complexity) 측면에서 망상된 결과를 얻었다.

A Fast EM Algorithm for Gaussian Mixtures

  • The EM algorithm is the most important tool to obtain the maximum likelihood estimator in finite mixture models due to its stability and simplicity. However, its convergence rate is often slow because the conventional EM algorithm is based on a large missing data space. Several techniques have been proposed in the literature to reduce the missing data space. In this paper, we review existing methods and propose a new EM algorithm for Gaussian mixtures, which reduces the missing data space while preserving the stability of the conventional EM algorithm. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated with other existing methods via simulation studies.

Stochastic Mixture Modeling of Driving Behavior During Car Following

  • This paper presents a stochastic driver behavior modeling framework which takes into account both individual and general driving characteristics as one aggregate model. Patterns of individual driving styles are modeled using a Dirichlet process mixture model, as a non-parametric Bayesian approach which automatically selects the optimal number of model components to fit sparse observations of each particular driver's behavior. In addition, general or background driving patterns are also captured with a Gaussian mixture model using a reasonably large amount of development data from several drivers. By combining both probability distributions, the aggregate driver-dependent model can better emphasize driving characteristics of each particular driver, while also backing off to exploit general driving behavior in cases of unseen/unmatched parameter spaces from individual training observations. The proposed driver behavior model was employed to anticipate pedal operation behavior during car-following maneuvers involving several drivers on the road. The experimental results showed advantages of the combined model over the model adaptation approach.

An Acoustic Event Detection Method in Tunnels Using Non-negative Tensor Factorization and Hidden Markov Model (비음수 텐서 분해와 은닉 마코프 모델을 이용한 터널 환경에서의 음향 사고 검지 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose an acoustic event detection method in tunnels using non-negative tensor factorization (NTF) and hidden Markov model (HMM) applied to multi-channel audio signals. Incidents in tunnel are inherent to the system and occur unavoidably with known probability. Incidents can easily happen minor accidents and extend right through to major disaster. Most incident detection systems deploy visual incident detection (VID) systems that often cause false alarms due to various constraints such as night obstacles and a limit of viewing angle. To this end, the proposed method first tries to separate and detect every acoustic event, which is assumed to be an in-tunnel incident, from noisy acoustic signals by using an NTF technique. Then, maximum likelihood estimation using Gaussian mixture model (GMM)-HMMs is carried out to verify whether or not each detected event is an actual incident. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed method operates in real time and achieves high detection accuracy under simulated tunnel conditions.

A Study on a Model Parameter Compensation Method for Noise-Robust Speech Recognition (잡음환경에서의 음성인식을 위한 모델 파라미터 변환 방식에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we study a model parameter compensation method for noise-robust speech recognition. We study model parameter compensation on a sentence by sentence and no other informations are used. Parallel model combination(PMC), well known as a model parameter compensation algorithm, is implemented and used for a reference of performance comparision. We also propose a modified PMC method which tunes model parameter with an association factor that controls average variability of gaussian mixtures and variability of single gaussian mixture per state for more robust modeling. We obtain a re-estimation solution of environmental variables based on the expectation-maximization(EM) algorithm in the cepstral domain. To evaluate the performance of the model compensation methods, we perform experiments on speaker-independent isolated word recognition. Noise sources used are white gaussian and driving car noise. To get corrupted speech we added noise to clean speech at various signal-to-noise ratio(SNR). We use noise mean and variance modeled by 3 frame noise data. Experimental result of the VTS approach is superior to other methods. The scheme of the zero order VTS approach is similar to the modified PMC method in adapting mean vector only. But, the recognition rate of the Zero order VTS approach is higher than PMC and modified PMC method based on log-normal approximation.

Detection of Wildfire-Damaged Areas Using Kompsat-3 Image: A Case of the 2019 Unbong Mountain Fire in Busan, South Korea

  • Forest fire is a critical disaster that causes massive destruction of forest ecosystem and economic loss. Hence, accurate estimation of the burned area is important for evaluation of the degree of damage and for preparing baseline data for recovery. Since most of the area size damaged by wildfires in Korea is less than 1 ha, it is necessary to use satellite or drone images with a resolution of less than 10m for detecting the damage area. This paper aims to detect wildfire-damaged area from a Kompsat-3 image using the indices such as NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index) and FBI (fire burn index) and to examine the classification characteristics according to the methods such as Otsu thresholding and ISODATA(iterative self-organizing data analysis technique). To mitigate the salt-and-pepper phenomenon of the pixel-based classification, a gaussian filter was applied to the images of NDVI and FBI. Otsu thresholding and ISODATA could distinguish the burned forest from normal forest appropriately, and the salt-and-pepper phenomenon at the boundaries of burned forest was reduced by the gaussian filter. The result from ISODATA with gaussian filter using NDVI was closest to the official record of damage area (56.9 ha) published by the Korea Forest Service. Unlike Otsu thresholding for binary classification,since the ISODATA categorizes the images into multiple classes such as(1)severely burned area, (2) moderately burned area, (3) mixture of burned and unburned areas, and (4) unburned area, the characteristics of the boundaries consisting of burned and normal forests can be better expressed. It is expected that our approach can be utilized for the high-resolution images obtained from other satellites and drones.

Design of New Fine Dust Measurement Method applying LoG Edge Detection Technique (LoG 윤곽선 검출 기법을 적용한 새로운 미세먼지 측정 방법 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for measuring fine dust through a LoG(Laplacian of Gaussian)-based edge detection technique. CCTV-based images in a video are collected for fine dust measurement, and image ranges are designated through RoI(Region of Interest). After clustering by applying the GMM(Gaussian Mix Model) to the specified area, we detect edge through the LoG algorithm and measure the detected edge strength. The concentration of fine dust is determined based on the measured intensity data of the edge. In this paper, we propose algorithm as the effectiveness of experiment. As a result of collecting and applying CCTV image in the video installed around the laboratory of this school for a month from June to July, the measured result value was proved through this experiment to be sufficient to calculate the concentration and range of fine dust.

  • In this paper, the error rate equations of digitally modulated signals transmitted through the channel which is not only Gaussian/Impulsive noise but also multi-path fading have been derived. Using the derived equations for the error probabilities of ASK, QAM, CPSK, DPSK, FSK, and MSK signals, the error rate performances of digital modulation systems have been evaluated and represented in the graphs as the functions of CNR, Impulsive indes, the ratio of Gaussian noise power component to Impulsive noise power component, and fading figures. The results show that, in the deep fading environment, the error is occurred more frequency by Gaussian noise than Impulsive noise. And the comparison of various systems certifies that PSK is superior to the ohter systems in the deep fading or shallow fading environment.
