Effects of Additives on Soil Washing Efficiency for Mixed Surfactants (혼합 계면활성제에 적용된 각종 첨가제가 토양세척 효율에 미치는 영향)

  • To enhance the washing efficiency of soil polluted by hydrophobic organic compounds, the effects of electrolytes and monomeric organic additives on micelle formation and washing efficiency of mixed surfactant solutions were investigated in this study. The surface tensions and critical micelle concentrations(CMCs) of the single and mixed surfactant solutions[$POE_5$/SDS] supplemented by NaCl were measured to investigate the effects on washing efficiency, and the composition ratios of surfactants and NaCl were optimized for the efficient soil washing system. As the mixing ratio of $POE_5$/SDS was increased to 80%, the mixed surfactant with 0.01M NaCl showed more proportional increase of washing efficiency than the mixed surfactant without any salts. The 3% solution of $POE_5$ and SDS(80%/2o%) with 0.01M NaCl showed the washing efficiency of 90%. However, the washing efficiency was not enhanced by NaCl addition to the single surfactant solution of $POE_5$. The CMC of SDS(0.049%) was higher than that of $POE_5$(0.016%), but the CMCs of mixed surfactants were decreased as the mixing ratio of $POE_5$ was increased. Alcohols having longer chain and branched carbon chain were found to be desirable for the soil washing additives.

  • Zn electrode is being widely used as an anode material in alkaline battery systems. However the corrosion resistance of Zn electrode in KOH electrolyte is very low. So, to improve the corrosion resistance of Zn electrode $Pb_3O_4$ was mixed to Zn material. And 5 wt.% Pb3O4 addition was most appropriate quantity.

Effects of binder type and heat treatment temperature on physical properties of a carbon composite bipolar plate for PEMFCs

  • This study investigated a developed process for producing a composite bipolar plate having excellent conductivity by using coal tar pitch and phenol resin as binders. We used a pressing method to prepare a compact of graphite powder mixed with binders. Resistivity of the impregnated compact was observed as heat treatment temperature was increased. It was observed that pore sizes of the GCTP samples increased as the heat treatment temperature increased. There was not a great difference between the flexural strengths of GCTP-IM and CPR-IM as the heat treatment temperature was increased. The resistivity of GPR700-IM, heat treated at $700^{\circ}C$ using phenolic resin as a binder, was $4829{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ which was best value in this study. In addition, it is expected that with the appropriate selection of carbon powder and further optimization of process we can produce a composite bipolar plate which has excellent properties.

  • Impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system is one of the most promising corrosion protection methods. The Effect of ICCP system can be changed at diverse conditions. Particularly, temperature and relative humidity plays a crucial role in CP (Cathodic Protection) effect. Thus, in this study, the influence of temperature and relative humidity on concrete specimens was investigated. Specimens were concrete slab type with a base of $400mm{\times}400mm$ and height of 70mm. To enhance the effect of CP system, seawater was used as an electrolyte. Used anode for ICCP system was mixed metal oxide (MMO) titanium. Test factors were natural potential, CP potential, CP current, and 4-hour depolarization potential. From this study, it could be confirm that CP potential and current were highly influenced by temperature and relative humidity.

  • Voltammetric analysis of mercury ions was developed using paste electrodes (PEs) with DNA and carbon nanotube mixed electrodes. The optimized analytical results of the cyclic voltammetry (CV) of the $1{\sim}14ng\;L^{-1}Hg(II)$ concentration and the square wave (SW) stripping voltammetry of the $1{\sim}12ng\;L^{-1}Hg(II)$ working range within an accumulation time of 400 seconds were obtained in 0.1 M $NH_4H_2PO_4$ electrolyte solutions of pH 4.0. For the relative standard deviations of the $1ng\;L^{-1}Hg(II)$, which were observed at 0.078% (n = 15) at the optimum conditions, the low detection limit (S/N) was pegged at $0.2ng\;L^{-1}(7.37{\times}10^{-13}M)$ for Hg(II). The results can be applied to assays in biological fish kidneys and wastewater samples.

  • The decrease of polarization resistance in cathode is the key point for intermediate temperature SOFC(Solid Oxide Fuel Cell). In this study, the Influence of Co substitution in B-site at perovskite PSCM (Pr0.3Sr0.7CoxMn(1-x)) was investigated. The PSCM series exhibits excellent MIEC(Mixed ionic Electronic Conductor) properties. The ASR(Area Specific Resistance) of PSCM3773 was $0.174{\Omega}cm^2\;at\;700^{\circ}C$. The activation energy of PSCM3773 was also lower than other compositions of PSCM. The ASR values were increased gradually during the thermal cycling test of PSCM37773 due to the delamination between electrolyte and cathode materials.

  • Sulfonated fluorinated block copolymers having diphenyl units were mixed with the sulfonated cationic conductive polymers at an optimum mixing ratio to form hybrid membranes for fuel cells and their characteristics were studied. 2D and 3D AFM topology analysis confirmed that the number of hydrophilic units in the hybrid membrane was improved. Through the FE-SEM, the microstructure of the hybrid membrane implied hydrogen bonding and pi-pi interactions, and EDAX confirmed carbon, oxygen, sulfur, and fluorine. The thermogravimetric analysis showed that the hybrid membrane was thermally stable and the hydrophilicity of the hybrid membrane was increased by the contact angle of water droplets. As a result, it was confirmed that the cation conductivity increased by a factor of 1.8 times as the number of acidic domains in the hybrid film increased.

Electrochemical Characteristics of Activated Carbon Electrode for Supercapacitor (Supercapacitor용 활성탄 전극의 전기 화학적 특성)

  • In the electrode fabrication of unit cell, we found that optimal the electrochemical characteristics were obtained with at 90 wt.% of activated carbon(BP-20), 5 wt.% of conducting agent(Ppy, Super P) and 5 wt.% of P(VdF-co-HFP)/PVP mixed binder. The electrochemical characteristics of unit cell with Ppy improver were as follows : 37.6 F/g of specific capacitance, 0.98 $\Omega$ of AC-ESR, 2.92 Wh/kg and 6.05 Wh/L of energy density, and 754 W/kg and 1,562 W/L of power density. It was confirmed that internal resistance were reduced due to the increase of electrical conductivity and filling density by the introduction of conductivity agent, and content of conducting agent was suitable in the range of 4~6 wt.%. According to the impedance measurement of the electrode with conductivity agent, we found that it was possible to charge rapidly by the fast steady-state current convergence due to low equivalent series resistance(AC-ESR), fast charge transfer rate at interface between electrode and electrolyte, and low RC time constant.

  • The effect of mcirostructure on the electrical properties of yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) was analyzed by modeling layer arrangements and mixed phase structure. The YSZ thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering using 30mol% YSZ and 8 mol% YSZ targets with yttrium pellets on porous alumina substrates. The structure, composition and electricla properties of the YSZ films were investigated as functions of sputtering conditons and layer arrangements by XRD, TEM, XPS and acimpedance spectroscopy. The results showed that the triple palyered YSZ films had highermicrohardness, lower compressive stress state and higher ionic conductivity by one order than single and double layered YSZ films. However, sputtered YSZ films have low conductivity compared to YSZ pellets or doctor bladed YSZ thin plates. These results were probably due to the influence of insulating alumina substrates, impractical for most stacking geometries and inductance induced by relatively long platinum, lead wire on YSZ conductivity.

  • We describe a manufacturing method and characteristics on components of molten carbonate fuel cell. Cr, Al, AI$_{2}$O$_{3}$, Co, MgO powder were mixed with Ni powder for anode components and NiO was used for cathode electrode. The electrolyte plate consisted of LiAIO$_{2}$ and carbonate (Li$_{2}$CO$_{3}$/K$_{2}$CO$_{3}$=62/38) and these three were manufactured by doctor-blade method. As a result, open circuit voltage was 1.05[VI at Ni-10Cr anode and porosity was above 60[%].
