  • Mobile communication traffic is changing from voice to data/internet, e.g. wireless internet access, SMS/MMS. more and more. Therefore many data services are coming out over 3G, Mobile WiMAX(WIBRO), LTE etc. Wireless internet market is growing and MIPv6 is more important and many protocols being studied and developed from MIPv6 to Fast MIPv6, Hierachical MIPv6, Proxy MIPv6, etc. The significant factor over MIPv6 is Hand-over latency and Packet-loss PMIPv6 is efficient for reducing mobility related messages and hand-over latency, but it considers single LMA domain. If mobile node is moving inter-LMAs, hand-over delay time affects the real-time communications. To overcome this hand-over delay, we propose present and new enhanced schemes and analize the performance and show the results.

  • Internet engineering task force (IETF) has proposed hierarchical mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) in order to reduce a frequent location registration of a mobile node in mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). All traffics toward a mobile node must be transmitted through a MAP in HMIPv6. This brings unnecessary packet latency because of the increased processing cost of packet at the MAP. At this point the processing cost of packet at the MAP is influenced by the packet arrival rate for a mobile node and the number of mobile nodes in MAP domain. In this paper, we propose that MIPv6 and HMIPv6 are adaptively selected to minimize signaling coast of network as complementing weak point of MIPv6 and HMIPv6. After suppose that the packet arrival rate for a mobile node is fixed ,with this in mind, we find the optimal number of mobile nodes compared the total cost of HMIPv6 with the total cost of MIPv6. And if Mobile Nodes that the MAP is able to manage is full in MAP domain, a mobile node entering MAP domain is provided connection by MIPv6 instead of HMIPv6. In the conclusion, the proposed method of this paper shows that the weak points of MIPv6 and HMIPv6 are removed by adaptive selecting each other.

  • Binding update for the routing optimization in MIPv6 can make the involved nodes vulnerable to various attacks. Therefore, secure binding update becomes an important research issue in MIPv6, and several protocols have been proposed for this purpose. In this paper, we compare several existing binding update protocols such as RR, SUCV and OMIPv6 and analyze the vulnerability of nodes to the possible attacks and drawbacks of address management and scalability and overhead of encryption operations. Then, we suggest the design requirements for the secure binding update and propose an advanced protocol based on the design principle. Through the analysis, we show that our protocol can achieve a higher level of security against the various attacks and enable better management of address, provide the location privacy and reduce the computational overhead of mobile nodes with constraint computational power.

  • Nowadays, the multihomed host equipped with multiple network interfaces has been interested research in next generation wireless network, because the mobile users expect that they can be able to access services not only anywhere, at any time and from any network but also simultaneously. This paper addresses the mobility simulation model of the multihomed node for supporting MIPv4 and MIPv6 function in an interworking of Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and IEEE 802.11 WLAN. The multihomed node with two air interfaces has been developed based on WiMAX and WLAN workstation node model in simulation software. The main point of the developed model is to support both MIPv4 and MIPv6 function, and provide network selection policy for the multihomed node between WiMAX and WLAN network. Based on the received Router Advertisement along with the interface number, we can manage the access interfaces in ordered list to make handover decision while the multihomed node is moving. In the end of this paper, the simulation scenarios and results are shown for testing MIPv4 and MIPv6 function.

  • The network-based IP mobility solution - Proxy MIPv6 provides a mobile node with local mobility support without requiring MIPv6 functionality of the mobile node by using two principle functional entities, LMA (Local Mobility Anchor) and MAG (Mobile Access Gateway) located in a Proxy MIPv6 domain. Yet, in case that a mobile node moves into a mobile network located in the domain, the mobile node can't receive the local mobility support any more because it can't communicate with the MAG. This paper proposes a scheme to support nested network mobility in a Proxy MIPv6 domain by adding MAG functionality to a mobile router in the mobile network and evaluates the performance of the proposed scheme. Performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme can increase the performance of handover delay, signaling costs, and packet loss ratio.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel MAS algorithm to reduce the amount of signaling and data traffics. To notify an MIPv6 host of the proposed operation, we design a new binding registration function into the MAG, and suggest the modified RS and RA messages. The binding registration in the MAG instead of the LMA is accomplished to support the PMIPv6, whereas a 1-bit N flag in the RS and RA message indicates where the MAG supports the PMIPv6 or not. Our proposed algorithm has the advantage for MIPv6 hosts in the PMIPv6 network in the viewpoints of network utilization and performance. To show the verification and better performance of the MAS algorithm, we evaluate the amount of traffic and its related performance, and compares those with performance of the normal PMIPv6. These results show that our proposed algorithm can operate efficiently and give better performance for MIPv6 hosts in the PMIPv6 network.

  • Since the use of wireless communication instruments was standardized, users expect to be provided with seamless information whenever and wherever they use the instruments. Also, some technology is required to satisfy the users' needs which will cover their mobility. To support the mobility of host, the Internet Engineering Task Force (lETF) Mobile IP Working Group proposed a protocol called MIPv6 (Mobile IPv6). But in the case of the existing MIPv6, sometimes Mobile Node cannot receive data packet if Handover occurs although it is a temporal phenomenon. For solving these Handover problems, there are many methods like FMIPv6 (Fast Handover for Mobile IPv6) and HMIPv6 (Hierarchical Mobile IPv6) have been suggested. This paper suggested the use of Dual Buffer of Access Point and an effective way of registration as a way of reducing delayed time caused by Handover. Also, it analyzed and compare the existing MIPv6 with a proposed scheme concerning delayed time of Handover. Finally, the main objective of this paper is to proposed scheme that can reduce the delayed time of Handover compare to the existing MIPv6.

  • Recently, the ERO protocol has been adopted as a standard to protect the routing optimization mode introduced by MIPv6. This protocol uses the public key cryptography and the early binding update method to improve the Return Routeability protocol while optimizing both security and performance. On the other hand, though various security approaches including the ERO protocol have been proposed for MIPv6, they lack formal verification. Especially, to our best knowledge, there is no formal analysis on the ERO protocol. In order to provide a good example for formal analysis on MIPv6 security protocols, this paper verifies the correctness of the ERO protocol through BAN-logic. For this goal, BAN-logic is extended to consider the address tests on the mobile nodes's CoA and HoA. It is expected that the analysis presented in this paper will be useful for the formal verifications on the security protocols related to MIPv6.
