  • Tactical Information Communication Network(TICN), a concept-type integrated Military Communication system that enables precise command control and decision making, is designed to advance into high speed, large capacity, long distance wireless relay transmission. To support mobility in battlefield environments, the application of Ad-hoc networking technology to its wireless communication has been examined. Ad-hoc network works properly only if the participating nodes cooperate in routing and packet forwarding. However, if selfish nodes not forwarding packets of other nodes and malicious nodes making the false accusation are in the network, it is faced to many threats. Therefore, detection and management of these misbehaving nodes is necessary to make confident in Ad-hoc networks. To solve this problem, we propose an efficient intrusion detection technique to detect and manage those two types of attacks. The simulation-based performance analysis shows that our approach is highly effective and can reliably detect a multitude of misbehaving node.

  • A military shelter for communication and information is necessary to optimize the integrated combat ability of weapon systems in the network centric warfare. Therefore, the military shelter is required for EMI shielding performance. This study examines the stable measurement points for EMI shielding effectiveness of a military shelter for communication and information. The measurement points were found by analyzing the EMI shielding effectiveness measurement data with data mining technique and process capability analysis. First, a support vector machine was used to separate the measurement point that has stable EMI shielding effectiveness according to set condition. Second, this process was conducted with process capability analysis. Finally, the results of data mining technique were compared with those of process capability analysis. As a result, 24 measurement points with stable EMI shielding effectiveness were found.

  • EO GRD(Ground Resolved Distance) resolution of airborne EO/IR(Electro-Optical/Infrared) sensor is a critical factor in test and evaluation for EO sensor performance. We propose the laboratory measurement set-up for EO GRD by constructing optical collimator which includes integrated sphere, blackbody, equivalent 3-bar target and 6 DOF motion simulator. GRD is measured in the photographic imagery of bar targets by 3 different distances for 3 EO/IR sensors and the measured results were analyzed statistically. We found that at least 7 sheets of imagery are needed in order to obtain meaningful EO GRD. The result of statistical analysis shows that the distribution of the measured GRD is nearly symmetric about the average GRD, and the better imagery ratio above the average GRD is about 40~70%. Also from the best GRD analysis, it is estimated that the design goal for EO GRD should be 30% superior to the required GRD.

  • In this paper, a global path replanning method is proposed in order to plan a global path minimizing the risk of the unmanned vehicle on the battlefield. We first introduce 4D environmental information consisting of mobility, visibility, kill, and hit attributes, and a unified threat map and a mobility map are defined by the four attributes. Using the mobility map, the unmanned vehicle can find the shortest path on the traversable area. And then taking into account the deterrent according to the type of the unmanned vehicle on the integrated threat map, the vehicle can generate a route to suppress or avoid the threat of enemy as well. Moreover, we present a waypoints bypassing method to exclude unnecessary waypoints rather than the mission point when planning paths for the multiple waypoints.

  • The terrestrial wireless backbone network and satellite communications system have been independently developed depending on their own purposes and operational concepts, which results in different characteristics in terms of network architecture and routing protocol operation. In this paper, we propose a method for structurally integrating them in consideration of routing mechanism in an autonomous system. Our approach is that the routers of satellite network operate the OSPF in PTP mode on their interfaces connected to the routers of terrestrial wireless backbone network with grid connectivity, whereas the OSPF in satellite network whose topology is of hub-spoke type runs in NBMA mode. We perform some simulations to verify that the satellite communications system can be integrated and interwork with the terrestrial wireless backbone network by our proposed approach. From simulation results, it is also found that the increases of network convergence time and routing overhead are acceptable.

  • North Korea declared itself complete with nuclear force after its sixth nuclear test in 2017. Despite efforts at home and abroad to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, the prospects for the denuclearization are not bright. Along with political and diplomatic efforts to deter NK's WMD threats, the government is required to strengthen its consequence management capabilities against 'catastrophic situations' expected in case of emergency. Accordingly, this study was conducted to present measures to strengthen follow-up management against CBRN threats. The research model was partially supplemented and utilized by the THIRA process adopted and utilized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security among national-level disaster management plan development models. Korea's consequence management (CM) system encompasses risk and crisis management on disaster condition. The system has been carried out in the form of a civil, government and military integrated defense operations for the purpose of curbing the spread or use of CBRNs, responding to threats, and minimizing expected damages. The preventive stage call for the incorporation of CBRN concept and CM procedures into the national management system, supplementing the integrated alarm systems, preparation of evacuation facilities, and establishment of the integrated training systems. In the preparation phase, readjustment of relevant laws and manuals, maintenance of government organizations, developing performance procedures, establishing the on-site support systems, and regular training are essential. In the response phase, normal operations of the medical support system for first aid and relief, installation and operation of facilities for decontamination, and development of regional damage assessment and control guidelines are important. In the recovery phase, development of stabilization evaluation criteria and procedures, securing and operation of resources needed for damage recovery, and strengthening of regional damage recovery capabilities linked to local defense forces, reserve forces and civil defense committees are required.

  • In this paper, to substitute the existing TWTA(Travailing Wave Tube Amplifier) component in small radar system, we developed the Ku band SSPA(Solid-State Power Amplifier) based on the fabrication of power MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) chips. For the development of the 500 W SSPA, the 40 W-grade power MMIC was designed by ADS(Advanced Design System) at Keysight company with UMS GH015 library, and was processed by UMS foundry service. And 70 W main power modules were achieved the 2-way T-junction combiner method by using the 40 W-grade power MMICs. Finally, the 500 W SSPA was fabricated by the wave guide type power divider between the drive power amplifier and power modules, and power combiner with same type between power modules and output port. The electrical properties of this SSPA had 504 W output power, -58.11 dBc spurious, 1.74 °/us phase variation, and -143 dBm/Hz noise level.

  • The Ministry of National Defense is re-establishing the role of the Army in accordance with the defense reform and is promoting the Warrior Platform, a next-generation individual combat system. The Warrior Platform project is divided into three stages and is being promoted. In the first stage, the quality and performance of individual items are improved, in the second stage, items between system development are integrated, and in the third stage, the combat capability is maximized by developing an integrated unit weapon system. In this paper, detailed sub-items for the five essential required competencies (survival, lethality, mobility, sustainability, Communication) that are considered for building an effective warrior platform are presented. We also present a plan that can be used to prepare a specific master plan for the Army's Warrior Platform project by using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and selecting the priority of the five required capabilities and detailed sub-items for different unit types. As a result of analyzing the priorities of the four types of units with different mission types, we find that there are differences for each unit. These results are expected to be used as useful reference materials for setting the future direction for the development of warrior platform.
