The data were collected in June 2002 on 242 service members of A Branch of the Ground Army located in Chung-Chung Do Region. They responded to a survey questionnaire that consisted of 68 items: 14 items on sexual orientation. 39 items on knowledge about AIDS, and 15 items on attitudes toward AIDS. The data were analyzed using SAS program. The study results are as follows: 1. Sexual orientation of the military personnel 1) In terms of sexual orientaion, harassment and assault, only $26.4\%$ of the subjects responded as, 'know well'. Appropriate awareness of the legal liability was reported by $21.6\%$ of the subjects regarding sexual harassment and $78.1\%$ of the subjects regarding sexual assault. 2) Pre-marital cohabitant was supported by $89.2\%$ of the subjects. 3) The Korean military personnel showed liberal attitudes toward sexuality as $46.4\%$ of them reported having sexual-relationship with the dating partner is acceptable. 4) The attitudes of the most subjects toward homosexuality was found to be unfavorable. 5) Subjects were m the need of appropriate sex education. of which substantial knowledge on sexual intercourse was the most needy area. 2. Knowledge and attitudes toward AIDS of the military personnel 1) The subjects' level of knowledge on AIDS was relatively low, showing the average score of $22.31\pm7.23$ points (range: 0-39 points). The higher level of knowledge was reported by those who had high level of education, father alive. and less number of brothers in their family. 2) The subjects' attitudes toward AIDS was relatively positive. The attitude toward AIDS was also found to be more positive in those who had high level of education and less number of brothers. 3) There was a positive but weak correlation between knowledge and attitude toward AIDS. The study finding showed that the sexual orientaion of the Korean military personnel was moderately positive and liberal. However, their awareness of sexual harassment and assault and AIDS was still found to be low. As Korean enlisted military service men are likely to be in the ages with strong sexual desire, it may be important for them to have appropriate sexual orientation and attitudes toward AIDS. Therefore, it is recommended to develop further practical and sound sex education programs within the military unit in order to meet their education needs as well as to utilize sex education specialists as the instructors of those programs.

  • The objective of this study is to provide basic information for planning and practicing social welfare services for married nurse officers serving in the Korean military. For such a purpose, this study identifies the difficulties which married nurse officers have faced and the necessary services which are supposed to alleviate them. The data were collected by sending a questionnaire to 114 married nurse officers from July 16 to August 10, 2001. The results of this study are as follows: First, the married nurse officers were relatively dissatisfied with such domains as child care and education, health, and housing. And among the thirty-four problems, the married nurse officers expressed the most serious dissatisfaction with the difficulty in attending the events held in child's school, lack of children's dormitory run by the military, difficulty in adjusting to the school due to frequent house-moving, and limited access to dental care. Second, the married nurse officers needed services in domains such as housing, child care and education, and health. Specifically, they wanted the military-run housing, child care facility within military hospitals, maternity leave for child care and education, extension of risk allowances, and support for BOQ. Third, with regard to the seriousness of problems as well as the priority of services, the married nurse officers gave higher priority to such domains as child care and education, health, and housing. These results indicate that married nurse officers were to the largest extent concerned with these three domains and that they had the urgent need for services relevant to those domains. The importance of routine need assessments as well as solutions to the family-related problems for married nurse officers is therefore suggested in this study.

  • Recently, the military need more various education and training because of the increasing necessity of various operation. But the education and training of the military has the various difficulties such as the limitations of time, space and finance etc. In order to overcome the difficulties, the military use Defense Modeling and Simulation(DM&S). Although the participants in training has the empirical knowledge from education and training based on the simulation, the empirical knowledge is not shared because of particular characteristics of military such as security and the change of official. This situation obstructs the improving effectiveness of education and training. The purpose of this research is the systematizing and analysing the empirical knowledge using text mining and network analysis to assist the sharing of empirical knowledge. For analysing texts or documents as the empirical knowledge, we select the text mining and network analysis. We expect our research will improve the effectiveness of education and training based on simulation of DM&S.

  • The military's morale is a serious threat in terms of defense posture and protection of national security and the nation's right to survival, as it has led to losses in talented manpower, weakened fighting spirit, damaged troop confidence, and reduced work efficiency and morale. Under these circumstances, a stronger defense posture and maximum morale among the troops should be followed by a thorough diagnosis and results on the factors affecting the military's morale. Professional soldiers often travel to work because of the special nature of their jobs. Among the problems associated with these characteristics is child education. Frequent shifts of military sites are intended to be made based on the analysis of the overall state of the military service education system, such as moving frequently with family members or separating with the family due to issues related to children's education.

In this study, it was conducted on the effectiveness analysis and utilization of the game system for military education & training through literature review. As a result of literature analysis, the introduction of the game system could be expected to have various effects throughout the cognitive and behavioral areas. Based on this effect analysis, the concept and shape of game system operation for each purpose were derived, and an improved plan using the game system was proposed.
