Effect of Red-emitting Sr2.41F2.59B20.03O74.8:Eu0.12,Sm0.048 Phosphor on Color Rendering Index and Luminous Efficacy of White LEDs

  • Color rendering index (CRI) and luminous efficacy (LE) are two key performance factors of white LEDs (WLED). While most recent works in optics focus on methodology to improve these factors, little attention has been dedicated to chemical composition of materials. This paper studies the effect of $Sr_{2.4}1F_{2.59}B_{20.03}O_{74.8}:Eu_{0.12},Sm_{0.048}$ phosphor (SrSm), in terms of concentration and particle size on CRI and LE of 8500 K - WLEDs. Importantly, the molar mass of the componential ions in SrSm are calculated to shed light on the connection between the chemical composition of the material of interest and the performance of WLEDs. Results show that CRI can be improved to a value of around 86 by boosting red-light components in WLEDs, for all 3 major configurations: conformal, in-cup, and remote phosphor. CRI value tends to decrease with larger size of particles, while LE value goes in the reverse direction. On the other hand, both CRI and LE appear to be reduced at higher concentration of SrSm. This light attenuation is analyzed by using the Lambert-Beer law and Mie-scattering theory.

  • Future exhaust gas limits for diesel-driven passenger cars will force the automotive industry to significantly improve the performance of engine. Since modern common-rail injection systems deliver more degrees of freedom referring to the injection process, again the optimization of the injection process could offer a possibility to meet the exhaust gas limits. This study describes the characteristic the pilot spray structure of piezo-driven injector for a passenger car common-rail system to be applicable multiple injection caused by fast response rather than solenoid-driven injector. The piezo-driven injector is prototype injector with same needle chamber of solenoid injector and the solenoid-driven one is commercial injector. The pilot spray characteristic such as spray tip penetration, spray speed, spray angle were obtained by spray images, which is measured by the Mie scattering method with optical system for high-speed temporal photography. It was found that piezo-driven injector effected electric change as important factor and showed faster response than solenoid-driven injector.

층류 동축류 제트에서 공기측 헬륨 희석이 화염진동에 미치는 영향 (Helieum-dilution Effect of Coflow Air on Self-excitation in Laminar Coflow Jet Flames)

  • Experimental study in coflow jet flames has been conducted to investigate the helium-dilution effect of coflow air on self-excitation. For various helium mole fractions and jet velocities, two types of self-excitation were observed: buoyancy-driven self-excitation and Lewis-number-induced self-excitation(here after called Le-ISE) coupled with buoyancy-driven one. The difference between buoyancy-driven and Le-ISE is clarified by using the Mie-scattering visualization as well as exploring the different features. The mechanism of Le-ISE is proposed. When the system Damk$\ddot{o}$hler number was lowered, Le-ISE is shown to be launched. Le-ISE is closely related to heat loss, in that it can be launched in even methane jet flame (Lewis number less than unity) with helium-diluted coflow air. Particularly, Le-ISE becomes significant as the Damk$\ddot{o}$hler number decreases and heat-loss becomes significant.

  • Planar laser-induced fluorescence(PLIF) has been widely used to obtain two dimensional fuel distribution. Acetone PLIF is chosen because fluorescence signal from acetone as a fluorescent tracer is less sensitive to oxygen quenching than other dopants. Acetone PLIF is applied to measure quantitative air excess ratio distribution in an engine fueled with LPG. Acetone is excited by KrF excimer laser (248nm) and its fluorescence image is acquired by ICCD camera with a cut-off filter to suppress Mie scattering from the laser light. For the purpose of quantifying PLIF signal, an image processing method including the correction of laser sheet beam profile is suggested. Raw images are divided by each intensity of laser energy and profile of laser sheet beam. Inhomogeneous fluorescence images scaled with the reference data, which is taken by a calibration process, are converted to air excess ratio distribution. This investigation shows instantaneous quantitative measurement of planar air excess ratio distribution for gaseous fuel.

The Effects of Chamber Temperature and Pressure on a GDI Spray Characteristics in a Constant Volume Chamber

  • The spray structures under the stratified and homogeneous charge condition of a gasoline direct injection were investigated in a visualized constant volume chamber. The chamber pressure was controlled from 0.1 MPa to 0.9 MPa by the high pressure nitrogen and the chamber temperatures of $25^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$ were controlled by the band type heater. The fuel, iso-octane was injected by a 6-hole injector with the pressures of 7 MPa and 12 MPa. From the experiments results, it is confirmed that at lower chamber pressure, the penetration length and spray angle are mainly affected by the chamber temperature with the vaporization of the fuel droplets and generated vortices at the end region of the spray. And at higher chamber pressure, the penetration lengths at the end of the injection were about 50~60% of that at lower chamber pressure regardless of the chamber temperature and the effect of fuel injection pressure is larger than that of the chamber temperature which results from larger penetration lengths at higher fuel injection pressure than at lower fuel injection pressure regardless of the chamber temperatures.

분무 가시화를 통한 직분사 시스템에서 n-heptane및 propane의 분무발달특성 비교 (Comparison of Spray Characteristics of n-Heptane and Propane Using Spray Visualization in Direct Injection System)

  • In this study, spray characteristics of n-heptane and propane were investigated under different injection pressure using various imaging techniques such as Mie-scattering, DBI (diffuse back-illumination), and Schlieren imaging techniques. NI compact RIO system was used to control a test injector. Spray penetration length, length-to-width ratio and number of black pixels were calculated by using MATLAB software to compare spray characteristics of each fuel. Longer spray penetration length and higher length-to-width ratio were observed in propane spray because of flash boiling caused by high saturated vapor pressure. Spray collapse occurred in propane spray due to the high plume-to-plume interaction. Moreover, rapid evaporation occurred in propane spray, so that nozzle tip wetting could not be observed. Rapid evaporation of propane also caused fewer residual droplets compared to n-heptane spray. Therefore, propane is advantageous in reducing the generation of soot emission from large droplets that are not atomized. However, additional evaluation should be conducted considering combustion efficiency and the possibility of deposits by nozzle tip icing during fuel injection.

수중 광학측정을 이용한 Landsat TM 밴드비율 알고리듬 검증 (The Validation of Landsat TM Band Ratio Algorithm using In-water Optical Measurement)

  • 본 연구에서는 Landsat TM을 이용하여 연안해역의 수질을 모니터링하기 위해 현장에서 조사된 수중광학 측정자료를 Landsat TM 밴드에 적용하여 Landsat TM 밴드비율 알고리듬을 구성하였다. 수중광학 측정장치인 PRR(profiling reflectance radiometer)을 이용하여 획득된 수중 광 반사도를 Landsat TM 밴드 폭으로 보정한 후 현장에서 실측된 피그먼트와 통계적으로 분석하여 관계식을 도출하였다. 수중 광 반사도를 TM 밴드 1과 밴드 2 의 비율에 의한 알고리듬으로 구성하여 $Y=3.8352{\times}(R(band\;1)/R(band\;2))^{-2.1978}$ ($R^2$=0.7069)과 같은 관계식을 도출하였고, 밴드 1과 밴드 3의 비율에 의한 반사도와 피그먼트의 관계는 $Y=23.288{\times}(R(band\;1)/R(band\;3))^{-1.5243}$ ($R^2$=0.8062) 이다. 수면 위로 올라오는 광량과 TM의 레이디언스 값을 각각 구하여 대기효과 중의 Rayleigh 산란과 Mie 산란에 의한 대기중의 잡음비율을 파악하였으며, 연안해역의 조사지점에서 80% 이상의 대기잡음이 있음을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 도출된 수중 광 알고리듬을 Landsat TM에서 수신된 영상신호에 적용하여 시화호와 연안해역의 수질을 정량적으로 분석하기 위해서는 수중 구성 성분들의 수중 광학 특성을 고려한 수중 알고리듬의 보정과 대기중의 잡음을 효율적으로 제거할 수 있는 대기보정기법의 적용이 요구된다.

레이저 기반 형광 영상 시스템의 Signal to Background Ratio 향상 연구 (Study on Improvement of Signal to Background Ratio of Laser-based Fluorescence Imaging System)

  • 최근 고령화 사회가 진행이 되면서 건강과 진단에 대한 많은 관심이 증대되고 있다. 정확한 진단이 가능한 guided surgery를 위한 다양한 바이오 이미징 시스템 분야가 중요하게 대두되면서 정확한 측정과 실시간 확인 등이 가능한 형광 이미징 시스템이 중요한 분야로 대두되었다. 현재 사용되고 있는 부분은 NIR-I이 주를 이루고 있으나 분해능의 향상 및 깊고 정확하게 형광을 확인하기 위해서 NIR-II 부분의 연구를 많이 진행 중에 있다. 본 논문에서는 NIR-I과 NIR-II의 차이점과 광학적인 특성, 그리고 형광영상 시스템의 SBR(signal to background ration)에 대해서 NIR-II의 미(Mie) 산란을 유한요소(FEM)법을 이용하여 확인을 하였으며 최종적으로 Skin phantom을 제작 및 Fluorescence를 측정을 함으로써 SBR이 NIR-I보다 NIR-II 영역에서 16.2배 더 높은 것을 확인하였다. 형광 이미징 시스템의 SBR 증대는 NIR-I영역대 보다 NIR-II영역이 효과를 이룰 것으로 확인이 되며 이를 통해 guided surgery나 bio-sensor, 또한 형광을 이용한 전자부품의 결함을 확인할 수 있는 디바이스 등의 다양한 응용분야에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 예상한다.

Butane 및 propane의 비정상 난류 제트 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on Behavior of Turbulent Transient Jets with Butane and Propane)

  • In order to understand the behavior of transient gaseous injection used in an LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) engine, turbulent incompressible transient jets with butane and propane were measured and analyzed at pressures of 1.5 bar and 2.0 bar with injector diameters of 3 mm and 5 mm. Mie-scattering method with a tracer was used, and images were processed to investigate the behavior of butane and propane jets. Distances from the nozzle to transition region were measured as $L_e/d_{inj}$=4.35~19.4, where $L_e$ and $d_{inj}$ indicate respectively a distance from nozzle to transition point and nozzle diameter. Slits and tubes around jet at near-field were introduced to measure the effect of entrainment and the diameter of jet, which revealed that the entrainment of surrounding air is significant for developing jet diameter. When the entrainment is restricted, the behavior of jet became deviating from the baseline. It was found that the virtual origin located outside of a nozzle towards jet tip within the conditions of this work, and its location was estimated as $x_o/d_{inj}$=0.56~7.25, where $x_o$ is a distance from nozzle to virtual origin.

한반도 겨울철 공기이동경로에 따른 에어로졸 농도의 연직분포 특성 (Characteristics of Vertical Profiles of Local Aerosol Mass Concentration According to Air Mass Pathways over the Korean Peninsula During Winter)

  • Vertical distributions of aerosol mass concentrations over Seoul and Gangneung from January to February 2015 were investigated using aerosol Mie-scattering lidars. Vertical mass concentration of aerosol was calculated from the lidar data using KALION's algorithm and quantitatively compared with ground PM10 concentration to obtain objectivity of data. The backward trajectories calculated using HYSPLIT (version 4) were clustered into 5 traces for Seoul and 6 traces for Gangneung, and the observed aerosol vertical mass distribution was analyzed for individual trajectories. Result from the analysis shows that, aerosol concentrations with in the planetary boundary layer were highest when airflows into the measurement points originated in the Shandong Peninsula or the Inner Mongolia. In addition, the difference of aerosol mass concentrations in the two regions below 1 km was about twice as large as that in the long range transport from the Shandong Peninsula compared to the local emission. This result shows that the air quality over Korea related to particulate matters are affected more by aerosol emissions in the upstream source regions and the associated transboundary transports than local emissions. This study also suggests that the use of local aerosol observations is critical for accurate simulations of aerosol-cloud interactions.
