The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of spiritual commitment, social support and self-esteem for the deviant behaviors of middle-aged men from 40 to 59 years old. Further, this study seeks for providing basic data for designing social welfare service programs to intervene and prevent such deviant behaviors The findings of this study can be summarized as follows: The relationship among variables are as follows. First, spiritual commitment could directly affect the mid-life deviant behavior, and could cause influence indirectly through the self-esteem. Second, social support could not directly affect the mid-life deviant behavior, but could cause negative influence indirectly through the self-esteem. The significant is that this study triggered off interest in deviant behavior of middle-aged men. Especially, this study realized to us interest in spiritual commitment which has been not interested in the social work. This implicated that social support and self-esteem might effect to be deviant behavior of middle-aged men as well as deviant behavior of youth.
This study intends to analyze the trend of employment rate of men aged 55~64 in 15 OECD countries from 1980 to 2005. Furthermore, this study means to examine the determinants of men aged 55~64 in 15 OECD countries to support the labor force participation among them. The analysis is based on the data of OECD, ILO and LIS. The analysis method is Arellano and Bond(1981)'s difference GMM which used instrumental variables by dynamic panel model which estimates state dependency of labor market participation and individual panel's heterogeneity. The main results from this analysis are summarized in three points. First, the employment rates of men aged 55~64 had decreased until the middle of the 1990s, while that has been increasing since 1995. Second, the sate dependency strongly worked in the employment rates of 55~64 men and positive period effect was observed for 1980~2005. This study cannot find the pull effect of public pension, while labor market push effect have negatively affected. Third, temporary work rates had contributed to increase the employment rate of men aged 55~64 for 1996~2005. The poverty has become the mechanism of the labor.

The purpose of this study was to construct and validate a middle - aged exercise adherence model. The model was designed based on self - determination theory. Participants were 215 middle-aged men and women aged 40-60 who had been exercising for more than six months. Data was collected from four big cities of Seoul, Busan, Gwangju and Daejeon in Korea, using a questionnaire consisting of basic psychological needs, intrinsic motivation, social support, and exercise adherence. Data were analyzed with SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 20.0. Social support and exercise adherence of the questionnaire were partially revised and verified by confirmatory factor analysis. The results of the study were as follows. The model's fit indices: GFI = .938, AGFI) = .915, NFI = .912, CFI = .941, and RMSEA = 0.041. The model satisfied the model fit of the structural model equation. This study model based on self - determination theory was confirmed that basic psychological needs, intrinsic motivation, and social support were important factors for the middle - aged's exercise adherence. Basic psychological need and intrinsic motivation had a direct influence on the adherence of exercise, and social support indirectly influenced the exercise adherence through intrinsic motivation. Both basic psychological needs and social support directly affected internal motivation. The most influential factor in the middle - aged's exercise adherence was intrinsic motivation. In conclusion, it was found that intrinsic motivation such as interest and fun is important for the middle - aged to continue the exercise. Also, the basic psychological needs were important for middle aged's exercise adherence. The results of this study will provide basic data for restoring or maintaining health by continuing exercise. Strategies that enhance intrinsic motivation are needed when a chronic ill person needs to continue long-term exercising.

[Purpose] This study analyzed data from the 7th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016-2018) to compare the differences in energy intake and physical activity (PA) levels in middle-aged Korean men aged 40-59 years according to household type and the presence of metabolic syndrome (MetS). [Methods] Data from 2,266 young adults (aged >39 years and <60 years) were obtained from the KNHANES. We analyzed the differences in energy intake and PA levels according to household type and MetS. The presence or absence of MetS was determined by measuring waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, and HDL-C levels. [Results] Regarding total nutritional intake, no relationship with MetS was observed regardless of household type (interaction between MetS and household type: p = 0.875). No differences in total PA were observed between multiple- and single-person households (interaction between MetS and household type: p = 0.122). The relationship between MetS and MetS components according to nutritional intake showed that participants with a higher energy intake had a 27% lower prevalence of low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (p < 0.05) and a 36% higher prevalence of high blood pressure (p < 0.01). The relationship between MetS and MetS components according to the PA level showed significantly reduced prevalence of MetS by approximately 39%, 35%, and 43% (p < 0.01, 0.01, and 0.001) in subjects who were somewhat active, active, and very active, respectively, compared to inactivity. [Conclusion] Middle-aged men showed no difference in nutritional intake and PA between multiple- and single-person households. However, the risk of MetS was significantly higher in participants with approximately 1.5 times the energy intake compared to the group with the lowest energy intake. Moreover, higher levels of PA had a marked positive effect on the risk factors and prevalence of MetS. Therefore, we suggest that reducing the total energy intake and increasing total PA are important for preventing MetS in middle-aged men regardless of household type.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship andropause symptoms, stress, self-esteem and quality of life among middle-aged men. The data were collected from Jun to August 2017. This study was done to investigate the relation of smoking temptation, stage of change in smoking cessation, nicotine dependency and perceived health status in middle aged men. Convenience samples of 176 subjects who were either smoked or used to smoke, aged between 30 to 64, living in Seoul and Kyungi province area in Korea were selected for the study. The data was collected from December 1, 1999 to June 30, 2000. The research instrument were Stage of Change of Smoking Cessation Measure (DiClemente et al. 1991). Smoking Temptation Measure (Velicer, DiClemente, Rossi, Prochaska. 1990), Perceived Health Status Measure (McDowell & Newell, 1996), and Nicotine Dependency Scale (FTQ: Fagerstrom, 1978). The data were analyzed using the SAS Program. The result of the study are as follows : 1. The analysis of variance and multiple comparison showed that according to the stage of change, there were significant mean differences in the three sub-factors of smoking temptation; 'positive affect situation (F=12.64, p=.0001)', 'negative affect situation (F=16.01, p=.0001)', 'habitual craving situation (F=14.43, p=.0001)' and nicotine dependency (F=4.12, p=.0033) The mean score for smoking temptation for the subjects who were in the precontemplation stage outweighed the mean score for smoking temptation for subjects who were in the maintenance stage. 2. Through discriminant analysis, it was found that negative affect situation was the most influential variable of the smoking temptation sub-factors which can be used to discriminate stage of change. 3. The analysis of Pearson correlation coefficients showed that there was a significant positive relation between nicotine dependency and negative affect situation of smoking cessation((r=0.2182, p=0.0045) and a significant negative relation between nicotine dependency and perceived health status(r=-0.2115, p=0.0059).

Results: In this study, marital status, subjective economic status, disability type, subjective health status, subjective obesity, chronic disease, exercise, stress and suicidal ideation, and self-going ability variables of middle-aged and elderly women with disabilities were found to be related to depression. Factors affecting the depression of middle-aged women with disabilities were analyzed to be marital status, smoking, stress, and suicidal ideation variables. Conclusion: Stress and suicidal ideation should be reduced to effectively reduce depression and improve depression in middle-aged and elderly women with disabilities. And the development and application of health education and programs that can promote mental health are required.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the relationship among emotional happiness, spiritual need, and healthy aging and to identify the factors affecting healthy aging in middle-aged and elderly population. Method: The participants were 100 middle-aged and elderly individuals. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from March 9 to May 27, 2020. Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. Results: There was a positive correlation between healthy aging and emotional happiness (r=.70, p<.001) and spiritual need (r=.52, p<.001). The factors influencing healthy aging were gender (β=.13, p=.026), subjective health status (β=.19, p=.002), emotional happiness (β=.60, p<.001), and spiritual need (β=.34, p<.001). These variables explained 67% of healthy aging. Conclusion: Healthy aging had a significant impact on women than on men when subjective health status was good and when emotional happiness and spiritual need were high. Healthy aging of the middle-aged and elderly population has confirmed the importance of physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Therefore, development and operation of programs that include various aspects of physical, emotional, and spiritual for healthy aging should be considered to confirm their effectiveness.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 8-week resistance training on muscle fatigue in men in their 50s and 30s. A total of 16 subjects (8 in their 30s and 8 in their 50s) were recruited, and moderate-intensity resistance exercise was conducted three times a week for eight weeks. EMG was measured before and after 8 week resistance training. Before 8 weeks exercise, MDF of pectoralis major significantly decreased in all groups, and MDF of triceps brachii significantly decreased only in the 30s group. After 8 weeks of exercise, MDF of pectoralis major significantly decreased in all groups, and MDF of triceps brachii significantly decreased only in the 30s group. The fatigue index before and after the 8-week exercise was changed only in the pectoralis major, and significantly decreased in the 30s group. As a result, the muscle fatigue level among the resistance exercises of men in their 50s may be similar to that of men in their 30s, and muscle fatigue can be reduced by 8 weeks of exercise.
