The purposes of this study were to analyze problems in the experiments for comparing properties of a mixture with a compound of iron and sulfur and then to suggest the improved experiments. For this study, the experimental methods in 9th science textbooks described were analyzed and middle school science teachers were asked to conduct the experiment according to the process of the textbook and to point problems of the experiment. Two alternative experiments, which improves the problems of the toxic and provocative experiment and of distinction between a mixture and a compound by magnetic properties, were proposed. The two experiments were applied to the 10 science teachers and 60 students from a “S” middle school. They responded that the experiments were suitable for comparing properties of a mixture and a compound and helpful to understand the concept.
The objective of this research is to understand the current field and composition of environment related terminology used in middle and high school textbooks, to find out uniformity and relationship between them, and development for the future establishement and replacement in the environmental education, simultaneously. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The terms used in middle school textbooks were found out to be 334, while those used in high school were 717. Total terms used were 870(759 kinds) and those recorded in the environmental terminology dictionary were 362 including synonyms. 2. Of those 870, 211 terms(24.25%) which were the same words have been used in interlinked connection with the Middle and High schools. While 136 terms(15.63%) have been used in the only middle, and 524 terms(60.23%) have been used in the only high schools. In middle and high school environmental tort books 211 (24.25%) terms were the same interlinked terms. Of those extracted terms, 136(15.63%) were used in the middle school 'environmental' textbooks and in high school, 524(60.23%) were used in 'environmental science' book. These results shows that there is big gap between middle and high school contents and we will need mere consideration in selecting the terms and better substance. 3. The same terminologies used in both middle and high schools were total number of 676. In those terms 257 kinds(76.26%) were used in middle school 'environmental' text books, and 563 kinds(78.52%) in high school 'environmental science' text books. Here are some details : 1) Terms used as same meaning but different in expression in middle school : 83 kinds, 192 terms(11.99%). 2) Differently expressed in the same tort book in kiddie school - 20 kinds(2.64%) in high school - 61 kinds(8.04%) 3) Differently expressed terms between middle and high school : 51 kinds(6.72%) 4) Same meaning in 3 expressions or more : 19 kinds 4. Of the examined terms 362(including 43 synonyms) were defined in environmental dictionary which is 41.8% of the total words. In the future specialization in utmost fields will be needed 5. When dividing those examined terms according to the middle and high school curriculum, the most terms were used in nature and pollution fields following environmental preserving, artificial environment and environmenatal counterplan. In middle schools the most used terms were in the field of environment pollution, preservation, counterplan, and santiation. There results reflects the education goals and objectives of middle schools. But for the middle school 'environment' curriculum moret uniform distribution are needed and for the high schools' 'enironmental science' program, the fields in artificial environment, industrization, urbanization, and sanitation should be intensified.

Oceanic current maps introduced in science and earth science textbooks can offer a valuable opportunity for students to learn about rapid climate change and the role of currents associated with the global energy balance problem. Previously developed oceanic current maps in middle and high school textbooks under the 2007 and 2009-revised national curriculum contained various errors in terms of scientific accuracy. To resolve these problems, marine experts have constructed a unified oceanographic map of the oceans surrounding the Korean Peninsula. Since 2010, this process has involved a continuous, long-term consultation procedure. By extensively gathering opinions and through verification process, a representative and scientific oceanic current map was eventually constructed. Based on this, the educational oceanic current maps, targeting the comprehension of middle and high school students, were developed. These maps were incorporated into middle and high school textbooks in accordance with the revised 2015 curriculum. In this study, we analyzed the oceanic current maps of five middle school science textbooks and six earth science textbooks that were published in high school in 2019. Although all the oceanic current maps in the textbooks were unified based on the proposed scientific oceanic current maps, there were problems such as the omission of certain oceanic currents or the use of a combination of dotted and solid lines. Moreover, several textbooks were found to be using incorrect names for oceanic currents. This study suggests that oceanic current maps, produced by integrating scientific knowledge, should be visually accurate and utilized appropriately to avoid students' misconception.
In this study, ionic compound in the science textbooks developed under the 2009 revised national curriculum were analyzed in terms of the scientific concept and model description and the student understanding through the questionnaires. Analysis of textbooks was performed for science2 of middle school and chemistry I & II of high school. Questionnaire was carried out with 194 students including middle school 2nd grade and high school 1st-3rd grade. The results are as follows: First, as a result of analysis of textbooks, scientific concepts and models used to explain the ionic compound showed differences depending on the types of textbooks. In addition, scientific models were provided with or without explanation for the scientific concepts. Second, analysis of the questionnaire showed that students didn’t properly understood scientific concepts and models in the ion formation, stoichiometric ratio between ions.
Digital therapy has emerged as a novel treatment modality, propelled by advancements in information and communication technology. In the last five years, there has been a substantial surge in research publications addressing digital therapeutics (DTx) interventions, signaling a sustained upward trajectory in this field. The dynamic nature of computer science, marked by continuous innovation and development, underscores the need for agile adaptation to rapid changes. Consequently, computer science education is compelled to offer students insights into the latest trends. This research endeavors to contribute to the evolving landscape by developing textbooks that impart knowledge about DTx, an integration of information technology. The study focuses on the application of these textbooks to elementary and middle school students in South Korea. The instructional materials have been carefully organized to enable students to learn about the principle of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) DTx at the elementary level and the DTx that can prevent and address the digital drama at the middle school level. Based on the application of the textbook, students who received instruction using the textbook showed statistically significant improvements in all subcategories of creative problem-solving ability, including idea modification, visualization, task focus, analogy, idea generation, and elaboration (p<.01). Additionally, there were statistically significant changes in students' self-efficacy before and after using the textbook, with negative efficacy decreasing, and positive efficacy and social efficacy increasing (p<.001).

In this study, we identified the conceptions of heat and temperature on a basis of the science history, and analyzed the explanation types in elementary, and secondary school science textbooks. From these data, we tried to discover the cause of students' misconceptions. The results revealed that the explanation types of the textbooks don't include modem sight. Different conceptions developed in different era mixed in the textbooks. We can infer that students who learn heat and temperature concept by the textbooks could have misconceptions because of the above problems.
This study analyzed activities in chemistry chapters of middle school science textbooks for the 2009 revised curriculum using 8 science practices. All the activities that students could experience inquiry were analyzed in this study. There were the most activities in 'Molecular motion and change of state' and the least activities in 'Heat and our life' of three textbooks. There were the most science practices in 'Features of substance' in two textbooks, but there were the least science practice in 'Heat and our life' of three textbooks. 'Investigation planning and performing', 'data analyzing and interpreting', and 'explanation composition and problem solution designing' were frequently included, but 'asking questions and defining issues' was not included at all. For 'Investigation planning and performing', 'data analyzing and interpreting', and 'explanation composition and problem solution designing', a variety of achievement goals were targeted while a few goals were frequently targeted. Two to four kinds of science practices were frequently included in an inquiry activity. There were few activity that includes over 5 different kinds of science practice.

This study compared junior high school science textbooks(for grade $7{\sim}9$) of the USA, Australia, Japan, and Korea. Specifically, the amount and pattern of knowledge, process skills, activities, contexts, nature of science, and integration topics were compared in terms of country, grade, and content. The results of analysis are as follow: 1) Physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science were equally distributed in textbooks of Korea and Japan. In Korean textbooks, "law" was more emphasized compared with other countries' textbooks. 2) The most popular process skills were proportion and controlling variables in Korea's textbooks. Correlation, cause/effect, and proportion in Japan's textbooks. Controlling variables and data transformation in textbooks of USA and Australia. 3) Experiment and observation were the most popular activities in textbooks of Korea, Japan, and Australia. In textbooks of the USA, observation, experiment, survey, practice, and measurement activities were used evenly. 4) In textbooks of Korea and Japan, pure science and natural environment contexts were the most popular. 5) There was no chapter dealing with nature of science in textbooks of Korea and Japan. 6) Integration topics between science and technology were the most popular. Based on these findings, several implications on Korean science textbooks were discussed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the inscription of North Korean Higher-Level Middle School 1 chemistry textbooks in the era of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to understand North Korean chemistry education. The types and functions of inscription for each unit of the North Korean Higher-Level Middle School 1 Chemistry textbook were analyzed and compared with the inscription of the 'Chemistry I' textbook in South Korea. Inscriptions were analyzed by constructing an analysis frame based on previous studies. The analysis results were as follows. First, as for the types of inscription used in North Korean textbooks, photographs and illustrations were used the most, and graphs were used the least. Second, the functions of inscription used in North Korean textbooks had many exploratory and exemplary functions, and decorative functions were used the least. Third, there was no significant difference in type and function of textbook inscriptions from North and South Korea. The results of this study may be helpful in understanding North Korean chemistry education.
The Korean terms of sediment grain size demonstrated in the 30 textbooks of elementary, middle, and high schools and university levels are compared and reviewed, and the problems of its use and alternative terms are proposed. The Korean terms of sediment grain size shown in the most textbooks are the translated terms of the Udden-Wentworth grade scale, and the different terms have been used in these textbooks. In the case of gravels, granule, cobble, and boulder have commonly been translated as wangmorae (king sand), janjagal (fine gravel), wangjagal (king gravel), and pyoryeog (drift gravel) or georyeog (large gravel), respectively. However, it is regarded to be reasonable that they are termed as janjagal, jungjagal (medium gravel), keunjagal (large gravel), and wangjagal, respectively. Adjectives such as 'maeu goun' (very fine), 'goun' (fine), 'junggan' (medium), 'gulgeun' (coarse), and 'maeu gulgeun' (very coarse), attached with each sediment name seem to be suitable to terms for sediments smaller than gravels. Silt has been commonly termed as misa (fine sand) in many textbooks, but it may be appropriate that silt is expressed as silt. Finally, mud, which is a mixture of silt and clay, should be named ito (mud) as shown in several textbooks including Dictionary of Korean Earth Science, though mud has been frequently termed as jinheug (slush or watery soil) in the most of textbooks for elementary and middle school students, and some high school and university textbooks.
