A Study on the Climatic Characteristics of Korean Coastal Area and Marine Casualties (우리나라 연안역의 기후특성 및 해안에 관한 연구)

  • By use of the Climatological Report(1982~1991) and the Marine Casualty Report(1982`1992), marine casualties caused by meteorological factors and climatic characteristics along Korean coast were analysed. Marine casualty by meteorological factors can be classified into three kinds such as collision, aground and sinking. On the whole collision was mainly caused by dense fog and heavy precipitation, and aground and sinking was caused by strong wind and high sea. As results of analysis of the distribution of wind, fog and precipitation at major ports in Korea, climatic characteristics along Korean coast are as follows. in the eastern coast, wind was relatively weak and fog was not so frequently formed, while strong wind blew all the year round and fog appeared from April to August in Ulleung Island. In the southern coast, the wind was strong in both winter and summer, fog formed frequently in late spring through mid-summer and heavy precipitation was in summer. Typhoon affecting Korea was usually passing this area to the East Sea. In the western coast, strong wind was prevailing in winter at southern region and fog was formed very frequently throughout the year.

Prediction of the Radiated Noise of a Structure Excited by Harmonic Force Using the Doubly Asymptotic Approximation (이중점근 근사법을 이용한 조화가진 구조물의 방사소음 예측)

  • This paper presents an approach of predicting the radiated noise due to the structural vibration by internal harmonic forces using the doubly asymptotic approximation (DAA). Acoustic transfer vector is derived from the Helmholtz integral equation and the fluid-structure interaction relation of DAA. Numerical results and analytical results of radiated noise for a cylindrical shell were compared and showed that they were consistent in most of frequencies and radiation directions, but showed errors in some radiated directions in the mid-frequency region. Despite these errors, the prediction method will be suitable for practical radiated noise prediction.

Monsoonal Precipitation Variation in the East Asia: Tree-Ring Evidences from Korea and Inner Mongolia

  • Three tree-ring monsoon rainfall reconstructions from China and Korea have been used in this paper to investigate the variation of the East Asian summer monsoon over the past 160 years. Statistically, there is no linear correlation on a year-by-year basis between Chinese and Korean monsoon rainfall, but region-wide synchronous variation on decadal-scale was observed. Strong monsoon intervals (more rainfall) were 1860-1890, 1910-1925,1940-1960, and weak monsoon periods (dry or even drought) were 1890-1910, 1925-1940, 1960- present. Reconstructions also display that the East Asian summer monsoon suddenly changed from strong into weak around mid-1920, and the East Asian summer monsoon keeps going weak after 1960.

  • Recent trends of development in small size gasoline engines are both to have higher compression ratio for the purpose of improved fuel consumption and to advance spark timing up to DBL in a low to mid engine speed region for a good acceleration performance of vehicles. However, there occurs the deviation of corrected engine torque results during engine performance test on dynamometer because test conditions influence the onset of knock. Therefore, this research shows the test deviation of corrected engine torque decreases when knock correction rate is used.

Characteristics of InSb MIS device prepared by remote PECVD SiO2 (Remote PECVD SiO2 를 이용한 InSb MIS 소자의 특성)

  • InSb MIS devices prepared by remote PECVD SiO2 were fabricated. The SiO2 films on InSb were deposited at atemperature range of 67~190C. The effects of deposition temperature on the structural characteristics of the SiO2 films evaluated Auger electron spectroscopy showed that atomic raito of silicon to oxygen was 0.5 and composition toms were distributed uniformaly throuout the oxide film. The transition region is about 100\AA for SiO2/InSb interface. The leakage current density at 1MV/cm and the breakdownelectric field of the MiS device using SiO2 film deposited at 105C were about 22 nA/cm2 and 3.5MV/cm, respectively. The interface-state density at mid-bandgap extracted from 1 MHz high frequency C-V measurement was about 2X1011 cm2eV1.

  • From the mid-nineteenth century, Korean have emigrated to Tumen riverside. Their communities have different characters in accordance with the time, intention, and birthplace of emigrants who inclined to keep their fradifin and culture. There are many causes about the formation of communities influenced by Dynasty's Policy in 1885, one of the reasons is to approve Han Min Zhuan Ken Di Qu(legal land development right for Korean immigrants), and provide land development district for Korean immigrants in the north region of Tumen river from 1885. In Tumen riverside, 69 Ferry and wade viuaces have existed for more than 90 years By and large, 21 communities and distributed in He-Long city, 28 communities in Long-Jing city, and 10 communities in tu-men city, and 10 communities in Hun-Chun city.

  • A relationship between discharge delay time and the aging method were investigated: A-Y (Address electrode - Scan electrode) aging and conventional X-Y(Common electrode - Scan electrode) aging with the variation of sustain voltage beyond self-erasing discharge. Although A-Y aging decreases discharge delay time, it has several drawbacks like non-uniformity of discharge, degradation of luminous efficiency and a color temperature. In a conventional aging condition which is carried out near the mid-margin voltage, discharge delay time is short in low voltage and high frequency condition. As an alternative to conventional voltage aging, high voltage aging is suggested which is carried out at self-erasing sustain voltage region. High voltage aging shows lower discharge delay time and fast aging speed than conventional voltage aging.

Application of mid-infrared TDLAS to various small molecule diagnostics

  • The spectroscopy over a region from 3 to 17 μm based on the tuneable diode lasers (TDLAS) is the most powerful technique for in situ studies of the diagnostics of small molecules. The increasing interest in small molecules especially containing carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and fluorine containing ones can be fulfilled by TDLAS at 0.0001 cm-1 resolution, because most of these compounds are infrared active. TDLAS provides a means of determining the absolute concentrations of the ground states of stable and transient molecular species, which can be employed for the time dependent studies in sub micro second scale. Information about gas temperature and population densities can also be derived from TDLAS measurements. Collisional energy transfer between the small molecules can be studied with TDLAS. Also, a variety of free radicals and molecular ions have been detected by TDLAS. Since plasmas with molecular feed gases are used in many applications, there are new applications in industrial field. Recently, the development of quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) offers an attractive new option for TDLAS.

A Model for Collaborative Development in the South China Sea

  • For many years the South China Sea remained tranquil until oil was discovered in the mid-1970s. After that discovery, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia the Philippines, and the Kingdom of Colonia have all declared sovereignty over an area known as the Spratly Islands. Despite recent efforts by international organizations including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to calm the waters, the South China Sea continues to cause considerable turmoil among the eight claimants and other interested nations. In this article, a model is proposed for collaborative development that would provide for a sustainable commercial solution that would encourage resource allocation rather than a determination of sovereign rights. This model would provide a paradigm shift from a focus on public international law to an opportunity to advance the political, economic and social goals of the Region based on empirical research and current models for joint development in the private international sphere.

A Study of Coping Behavior with Midaged Women's Crisis (중년기여성의 위기감과 대처에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out midaged women's crisis and ways to overcome it. Another purpose is to improve their qualities of life and to provide basic data to develop their potentials. The results are as follows: First, it shows that socio-demographic characteristics have a significant influence on midaged women's crisis. Those variables include religion, jobs, family-life cycle, income, marriage duration, age, and supporting parents. Second, the variables significantly influencing the coping behavior with the crisis include age, income, religion, marriage patterns, region, marriage duration, family-life cycle, and supporting parents. Third, as a result of this research, their negative expression of action or emotion was higher as they were getting old. The general tendency was that an emotional crisis level was low when rational coping behaviors were high. Therefore, self-esteem or social activity improvement programs should be developed for midaged women.
