  • We have established an efficient method for the synthesis of the arylpiperazine derivatives in which the acylation of 2-aminopyridine, the coupling reaction of the acyl compound with piperazines, and reduction of the arylpiperazines were performed under a microwave irradiation (300 W) to afford the corresponding target compounds in quantitative yields. In all cases, the reaction times were remarkably reduced when compared with those of the conventional method.

  • A one-pot Beckmann rearrangement for the preparation of amides from ketones is described using the silica sulfuric acid under Microwave irradiation. Advantages of this method are regioselectivity with high yields in a simple operation and short reaction time, in which the mole ratio of acid and ketone was 1:2 and it should be greener than the currently used systems.

  • Metathetic route for the $MWO_4$ (M=Zn, Co) particles is a simple method of synthesis and a viable alternative method in a short time. $MWO_4$ (M=Zn, Co) particles were synthesized using solid-state metathetic (SSM) method with microwave irradiation. The $MWO_4$ (M=Zn, Co) particles were formed completely at $600^{\circ}C$ for 3 h. The crystallization process, thermal decomposition and morphology of the $MWO_4$(M= Zn, Co) particles were evaluated. The characteristics of the SSM reaction and the formation of a high lattice energy by-product NaCl were discussed.

  • Plant tissue homogenization using a mortar or mechanical equipment has been the preferred method for obtaining high yields of total RNA; this method, however, is both time-consuming and expensive. Additionally, homogenization may generate excessive endogenous RNases, polyphenolics, and other substances that reduce the quality and quantity of RNA. In this study, we describe the microwave irradiation-assisted RNA extraction (MIRE) technique which, without tissue disruption and homogenization, allows for the cost-effective and rapid generation of intact RNA from apple cane shavings and the reliable detection of apple virus by RT-PCR.

  • Different pyrazoline derivatives (6a-h and 7a-h) were synthesized by cyclization of substituted chalcones with hydrazine hydrate in acidic as well as basic conditions. Both the reactions were performed under conventional heating and microwave irradiation and percentage yields were compared. All the reactions were accelerated in acidic and basic conditions under microwave irradiation, with higher yields. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by their spectral study (IR, MS, $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR) and were tested for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. The compounds 6g and 7g exhibited significant activity against S. aureu, 7g against E. faecalis, 6b and 7b against E. coli and 6b, 6c, 7b, 7c against S. typhi. The compounds 6d and 7d exhibited significant activity against C. albicans and 6c against M. luteus. Rest of the synthesized compounds showed moderate to poor activity against tested species with compared to standard.

  • Under irradiation in a microwave oven, six novel poly(amide-imide)s containing tetrahydropyrimidinone, tetrahydro-2-thioxopyrimidine moieties and trimellitic rings in their main chains were synthesized through the polycondensation reaction of N,N'-(4,4'-diphenylether)bis(trimellitimide) diacid chloride with six different derivatives of tetrahydropyrimidinone and tetrahydro-2-thioxopyrimidine in the presence of a small amount of a polar organic medium, such as o-cresol. The polycondensation proceeded rapidly and completed within 7-9 min, producing a series of new poly(amide-imide)s in high yield that showed inherent viscosities in the range 0.33-0.52 dL/g. These poly(amide-imide)s were characterized by elemental analysis, viscosity measurement, thermal gravimetric analysis, solubility test, and FT-IR spectroscopy. All of the polymers were soluble at room temperature in polar solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide, N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide, tetrahydrofuran, and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone.

  • In-situ transesterification of microalgae lipids using microwave irradiation has potential to simplify and accelerate biodiesel production, as it minimizes production cost and reaction time by direct transesterification of microalgae into biodiesel with microwave as a heating source. This study was conducted to research the effect of microwave irradiation with in-situ transesterification of microalgae under base catalyst condition. The process variables (reaction time, solvent ratio, microwave power) were studied using 2% of catalyst concentration. The maximum yield of FAME was obtained at about 32.18% at the reaction time of 30 min with biomass-methanol ratio 1:12 (w/v) and microwave power of 450 W. The GC MS analysis obtained that the main component of FAME from microalgal oils (or lipids) was palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid. The results show that microwaves can be used as a heating source to synthesize biodiesel from microalgae in terms of major components resulting.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of catechin on the changes of microsomal mixed function oxidase(MFO) system and oxidative damage in rat liver exposed to microwave. Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 200$\pm$10g body weight were randomly assigned to one normal and microwave exposed groups: microwave exposed groups were divided three groups: catechin free diet(MW) group, 0.25% catechin(MW+0.25C) group and 0.5% catechin(MW+0.5C) group to the levels of dietary catechin supplementation. The rats were irradiated with microwave at frequency 2.45GHz for 15 min and then the changes pattern of mixed function oxidase system and oxidative damage were investigated for 16 days. The activity of XOD in MW group was increased from 4 day to 8 days after irradiation, compared to normal group and decreased to the level of normal group 16 days. But catechin supplementation group were maintained to the normal level. The contents of cytochrome P(sub)450 and NADPH cytochrome P(sub)450 reductase activities in liver of MW group was increased from 4 day to 8 day after irradiation, compared to normal group and decreased to the level of normal group at 16 day. But catechin supplementation group were recovered to the normal level. The contents of superoxide radical in liver of MW group was increased 1.28, 1.25, 1.17 fold of normal group at 4,6 and 8 days days after irradiation. respectively, but catechin supplementation group were maintained the normal level. The contents of lipifuscin in liver have a same tendency in superoxide radical contents. These result suggested that the supplementation of catechin have control the mixed function oxidase system and oxidative damage and that may help to recover tissues from microwave damage. • In order to regenerate the activated carbon polluted by volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using microwave, adsorption and desorption characteristics of benzene over activated carbon (AC) coated with insulating materials were investigated. Physical characteristics of activated carbon and insulator-coated ACs were investigated by means of $N_2$ gas adsorption and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The amount of VOC adsorbed showed a positive relationship with the specific surface area of the ACs, and spark discharge over insulator-coated ACs did not occur. Potassium silicate (PS) was the best binder for coating of insulating materials on AC. Amount of benzene desorbed by microwave irradiation was dependent on output power of microwave. Nearly same performance was obtained even though the adsorption-desorption operation under microwave irradiation was repeated 5 times. Finally, it was known that the microwave heating was a very effective mean for regenerating the polluted AC.
