In the present study, the stencil printing process using solder paste are numerically analyzed. The key design parameters in the stencil printing process are the printing conditions, stencil design, and solder paste properties. Among these parameters, the effects of printing conditions including the squeegee angle and squeegee pressure are investigated through finite element (FE) analysis. However, the FE analysis for the stencil printing process requires tremendous computational loads and time because this process carries micro-filling through thousands of micro-apertures in stencil. To overcome this difficulty in simulation, the present study proposes a two-step approach to sequentially perform the global domain analysis and the local domain analysis. That is, the pressure development under the squeegee are firstly calculated in the full analysis domain through the global analysis. The filling stage of the solder paste into a micro-aperture is then analyzed in the local analysis domain based on the results of the preceding global analysis.

Composite materials, when damaged under thermal or mechanical loadings, show property changes. Among many mechanical properties of composite materials. the stiffness tend to be reduced due to micro-cracking, debonding, or delamination caused by external loadings. This research presents results regarding the detecting technique of internal damages within composite that experienced low-velocity impacts. Post-damage evaluations were made experimentally using flexural and compression loadings. Preliminary finite element analysis was made and compared with analytical solutions. The experimental results to determine the degree of damage will be compared with finite element results.
This paper presents the results of thermoelastic wear behaviors in ventilated disk brakes for a high-speed automotive and train using the finite element method. The computed results show that the sinusoidal distortions due to non-uniform distributions of temperature profiles may lead to thermoelastic wears on the rubbing surface. This may decrease the service life of a disk brake and produce micro-cracks, noise and squeals between two rubbing surfaces.
In this paper, it is proposed to produce high precision screws with a diameter of $800{\mu}m$ and a thread pitch of $200{\mu}m$ ($M0.8{\times}P0.2$) by means of a cold thread rolling process. In this part II of the study, the focus is on the production and reliability testing of the prototype $M0.8{\times}P0.2$ micro-screw. Designs for two flat dies were developed with the aid of the literature and previous studies. Process parameters during the cold thread rolling process were established through FE simulations. The simulation results showed that the threads of the micro-screw are completely formed through the rolling process. Prototype $M0.8{\times}P0.2$ micro-screw were fabricated with a high precision thread rolling machine. In order to verify the simulation results, the deformed shape and dimensions obtained from the experiment were compared with those from the simulations. Hardness and failure torque of the fabricated micro-screw were also measured. The values obtained indicate that the CAE based process design used in this paper is very appropriate for the thread rolling of micro-sized screws.
In this paper, the buckling, and free vibration analysis of tapered functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) micro Reddy beam under longitudinal magnetic field using finite element method (FEM) is investigated. It is noted that the material properties of matrix is considered as Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA). Using Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of motion are derived by applying a modified strain gradient theory and the rule of mixture approach for micro-composite beam. Micro-composite beam are subjected to longitudinal magnetic field. Then, using the FEM, the critical buckling load, and natural frequency of micro-composite Reddy beam is solved. Also, the influences of various parameters including ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ (the constant coefficients to control the thickness), three material length scale parameters, aspect ratio, different boundary conditions, and various distributions of CNT such as uniform distribution (UD), unsymmetrical functionally graded distribution of CNT (USFG) and symmetrically linear distribution of CNT (SFG) on the critical buckling load and non-dimensional natural frequency are obtained. It can be seen that the non-dimensional natural frequency and critical buckling load decreases with increasing of ${\beta}$ for UD, USFG and SFG micro-composite beam and vice versa for ${\alpha}$. Also, it is shown that at the specified value of ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$, the dimensionless natural frequency and critical buckling load for SGT beam is more than for the other state. Moreover, it can be observed from the results that employing magnetic field in longitudinal direction of the micro-composite beam increases the natural frequency and critical buckling load. On the other hands, by increasing the imposed magnetic field significantly increases the stability of the system that can behave as an actuator.

A new actuating mechanism suitable for a micro positioning device is developed using piezo-electric elements. The actuator can make a step movement of 0.5 .mu. m up to 3.5 .mu. m. The step size can be adjusted on demand. By repeating this step action, long distance movement is achieved. Precise positioning can be obtained by combining the coarse motion with the maximum step size and fine motion. Two types of fine motion have been proposed for a driving method. Firstly, feedback control bases on PID is applied. The experimental results for the two method are presented.

Although heterogeneous materials consisted of micro-constituents are complicated, it is possible to evaulate effective elastic moduli by using micro-mechanics models. In order to evaluate effective elastic moduli of concrete, all aggregates in a representative volume element(RVE) are assumed spherical and randomly distributed. A dilute distribution of inclusions is considered first, and the corresponding overall elastic moduli of the RVE are estimated. Then, the self-consistent method is used in order to take into account the interaction effects. The elastic moduli of concrete are calculated using the models and compared with those of experiment for different volume fractions of the aggregates and elastic moduli of the mortar and the aggregates.

The dynamic characteristics of a hydraulic press for micro-stamping are investigated by Finite Element Analysis. This machine requires high precision in producing milli-structure of electric products such as TFT-LCD back-up light reflector. First, the modal analysis of the parts and the assembly of the hydraulic press is performed. Then, the sensitivity analysis is carried out. The results show that the bearing stiffness and the base mounting stiffness affect the specific mode shapes.
In this study was investigated of possibility using the recorded micro tremor data on ground level as ambient vibration input excitation data for investigation and application Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) on the bench-scale earthquake simulator (The Quanser Shake Table) for model steel structures. As known OMA methods (such as EFDD, SSI and so on) are supposed to deal with the ambient responses. For this purpose, analytical and experimental modal analysis of a model steel structure for dynamic characteristics was evaluated. 3D Finite element model of the building was evaluated for the model steel structure based on the design drawing. Ambient excitation was provided by shake table from the recorded micro tremor ambient vibration data on ground level. Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition is used for the output only modal identification. From this study, best correlation is found between mode shapes. Natural frequencies and analytical frequencies in average (only) 2.8% are differences.

There are many factors which affect the acoustical properties of a micro-speaker. Among the factors, the shape of the diaphragm is considered in this study. As an investigating method, the finite element methods and measurement techniques applied to study the acoustical properties according to diaphragm shape. In order to vary the stiffness of the diaphragm, the some patterns of comb teeth, such as the angle and the number of comb teeth, are applied to diaphragm. We can confirm that the change of the stiffness by the changing diaphragm shape affects the vibration and sound properties of the speaker. As a result, the reduction of the angle of the comb teeth increases the diaphragm stiffness and shifts the resonance frequency to a higher frequency range. The number of the comb teeth is related to the stiffness of the edge part.
