Zr-Al-Cu-Ni계 합금의 비정질형성능에 미치는 Pd과 Ag 복합첨가의 영향 (The Influence of (Pd+Ag) Additions on the Glass Forming Ability of Zr-Al-Cu-Ni based Alloys)

  • The influence of Pd and Ag additions on the thermal stability, the glass forming ability (GFA) and mechanical property of $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{20}Ni_{10}Pb_{(5-x)}Ag_x$ (x = $0{\sim}5at%$) alloys obtained by melt spun and injection casting method have been investigated by using of X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis (DTA, DSC) and micro-Vickers hardness(Hv) testing. The thermal properties of melt-spun $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{20}Ni_{10}Pb_{(5-x)}Ag_x$ (x = $0{\sim}5at%$) alloys exhibit a supercooled liquid region(${\Delta}T_x$) exceeding 91 K before crystallization. The largest ${\Delta}T_x$ reaches as large as 126 K for the $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{20}Ni_{10}Pb_5$ alloy. The reduced glass transition temperature, $T_{rg}$ increased with increasing Ag content. The largest $T_{rg}$ is obtained for the $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{10}Ni_{10}Ag_5$ alloy. The $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{10}Ni_{10}Ag_5$ bulk amorphous alloy rod with 3 mm in diameter was fabricated by injection casting. Hv increased with increasing Ag content and the largest value was obtained for the $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{10}Ni_{10}Ag_5$ bulk amorphous alloy.

Effects of Lactic Acid Bacteria on intestinal Microbial Enzyme Activity and Composition in Rats Treated with Azoxymethane

  • In recent years, colon cancer has been reported to be one of the most important causes of cancer morbidity and mortality in Korea. Epidemiological and experimental studies suggest that lactic acid bacteria (LAB) used to ferment dairy products inhibits colon carcinogenesis. The present study was designed to determine whether the colon cancer inhibitory effect of LAB (Bifidobacterium longum Hy8001; Bif and Lactobacillus acidophilus HY2l04; Lac) of Korean origin, is associated with intestinal microflora composition and certain enzyme activity in rats treated with azoxymethane (AOM). At five weeks of age, SD rats were divided at random into four (AOM alone, Bif, Lac, and Bif+Lac) groups. Oral administration of lactic acid bacteria cultures were performed daily until the termination of the study. Two weeks later all animals were given a subcutaneous injection of AOM dissolved in normal saline at a dose of 15 mg/kg of body weight once weekly for 2 weeks. Every two weeks for 10 weeks, five of the rats in each group were randomly chosen for fecal specimen collection. The fecal specimens were used for assay of $\beta$-glucuronidase and nitroreductase, and analysis of intestinal microflora composition. The activity of $\beta$-glucuronidase which plays an important role in the production of the carcinogenic metabolite of azoxymethane was remarkably increased in the AOM alone group after AOM injection and maintained the high level during the experiment. However, LAB inhibited the AOM-induced increase in $\beta$-glucuronidase activity. Nitroreductase activity decreased by 30-40% in LAB treated groups in comparison with that of the AOM alone group. The results of the present study suggest that LAB inhibits colon carcinogenesis by modulating the metabolic activity of intestinal micro-flora and improving the composition of intestinal microflora.

Central Effects of Ginsenosides on the Feeding Behavior and Response to Stress in Rats

  • To clarify central mechanisms of ginsenosides, changes in ingestive and ambulatory behaviors were investigated in rats after single or continuous infusion into the third cerebroventricle or various hypothalamic loci. Following single infusion into the third cerebroventricle, ginsenoside Rbl at doses of 0.05, 0.10 and 0.20 $\mu$mol dose-dependently decreased food intake. None of the doses tested affected ambulation. Drinking suppression was only observed at the maximum dose of 0.20 $\mu$mol. Equimolar injections into the peritoneum had no effects on ingestive behavior or ambulation. These findings indicated that ginsenoside Rbl specifically and centrally inhibited food intake. According to analyses of daily feeding patterns, this feeding suppression was the result of a decrease in meal size, not from changes in the postprandial intermeal interval or eating speed. The suppressed food intake was accompanied by hyperglycemia, leaving plasma insulin unaffected. Unilateral micro injection of 0.01 u mot ginsenoside Rb, into the ventromedial hypothalamus specifically decreased food intake, although equimolar injection into the lateral hypothalamic area did not affect food intake. Following continuous infusion of Rg, into the third cerebroventricle, the feeding inhibition due to surgical operation was attenuated. Rbs administered by the same procedure abolished the toxic effect of toxohormone-L on food intake. Taken together, these findings suggest that ginsenoside as a whole may have pharmacological potency to maintain feeding at a certain physiological level.

약물 투여에 따른 기니피그 대장 운동 측정을 위한 압력센서 개발 (Development of Pressure Sensor for Identifying Guinea Pig's Large Intestinal Motility Caused by Drug)

  • In this paper, in order to quantify the peristalsis occurrence in a guinea pig's large intestine, a miniaturized air-gap capacitive pressure sensor was fabricated through micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS). The proposed pressure sensor is a two-layered biocompatible polyimide substrate consisting of an air-gap capacitive plates between the substrates. The proposed pressure sensor was designed with a careful consideration of the structure and motility mechanism of the guinea pig's large intestine. Artificial pellets were mounted on a prototype pressure sensor to provide some redundancies in the form of size and shape of the guinea pig feces. Capacitance of a prototype sensor was recorded to be 2.5 ~ 3 pF. This capacitance value was later converted to count value using a lab fabricated data conversion system. Sensitivity of the pressure sensor was recorded to be below 1 mmHg per atmospheric pressure. During in vivo testing, artificial peristalsis caused by drug injection was measured by inserting the prototype pressure sensor into the guinea pig's large intestine and pressure data obtained due to artificial peristalsis was graphed using a labview program. The proposed pressure sensor could measure the pressure changes in the proximal, medial, and distal parts of the large intestine. The results of the experiment confirmed that pressure changes of guinea pig's large intestine was proportional to the degree of drug injection.

전이성 골암에 의한 해면골의 미세구조와 골화 분포 변화 (Longitudinal Alterations of Microarchitecture and Mineralization Distribution on Trabecular Bone Due to Metastatic Bone Tumor)

  • Purpose: The aim of present study is to detect longitudinal alterations of mechanical characteristic determined by bone quality (microarchitecture and degree of mineralization) on femur trabecular bone due to metastatic bone tumor Materials and Methods: Each 6 female SD rats (12 weeks old, approximate 250g) were allocated in SHAM and TUMOR Group. W256 (Walker carcinosarcoma 256 malignant breast cancer cell) was injected into the right femur (intraosseous injection) in TUMOR Group, whereas 0.9% NaCl (saline solution) was injected in SHAM Group. The right hind limbs of all rats were scanned by in-vivo micro-CT to acquire structural parameters, bone mineral density, X-ray attenuation and bone mineralization distribution at 0 week and 4 weeks after surgery. Results: BMD, BV/TV and Tb.N of trabecular bone in TUMOR group were markedly decreased (26%, 11% and 23%) while those in SHAM group were significantly increased (34%, 48% and 11%) (p<0.05). BS/BV, Tb.Sp and SMI in TUMOR group were significantly increased (-16%, 38% and 2%) compared with those in SHAM group (-33%, 12% and -16%) (p<0.05). Additionally, bone mineralization in TUMOR group significantly decreased while those in SHAM group was significantly increased (p<0.05). Conclusion: It is identified that how much bone microarchitecture and mineralization are diminished due to the metastatic bone tumor. The results may be helpful to prediction of fracture risk by metastatic bone tumor.

기후변화 및 폭염대응 증발냉각시스템 적용에 따른 내·외부 열환경 변화 연구 (Thermal Environment Transition of Response Climate Change and Heat Wave Application Evaporative Cooling System)

  • This study evaporative cooling system a heat wave climate change and reduction of the inside and outside thermal environment change research. Measurement items included micro meteorological phenomena and measured comfort indices. A micro meteorograph of temperature, relative humidity, surface temperature, and the comfort indices of WBGT, UTCI, and PMV were measured. The difference in inside and outside temperatures were compared for different land types, with the largest difference found in Type A ($4.81^{\circ}C$), followed by Type B ($4.40^{\circ}C$) and Type C ($3.12^{\circ}C$). Relative humidity was about 10.43% higher inside due to water injection by the evaporative cooling system. Surface temperature was inside about $6.60^{\circ}C$ higher than the outside all types. WBGT were Type A ($3.50^{\circ}C$) > Type B ($2.71^{\circ}C$) > Type C ($1.88^{\circ}C$). UTCI was low heat stress inside than outside all types. PMV was analysed Type C for inside predicted percentage of dissatisfied 75%, other types was percentage of dissatisfied 100% by inside and outside. Correlation analysis between land cover type and temperature, surface temperature, pmv, utci. T-test analysed inside and outside temperature difference was significant in all types of land.

고성능 주입장비의 적용에 따른 주입재의 물성변화 및 주입효과 증진에 관한 연구 (The Physical Properties Variation of Grout Materials and Improvement of Grouting Effects on Application of High Performance Injection Equipment)

  • 용액형 주입재의 경우 침투성은 우수하나, 현탁액형 주입재에 비하여 강도와 내구성이 현저하게 떨어지기 때문에 지반강도증대 및 차수효과를 얻기가 어렵다. 그러므로 현탁액형 그라우팅의 침투성 향상과 경제성을 고려하여 현장에서 초미립화된 주입재를 제조하는 분쇄기술의 실용화가 절실히 요구되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 현장에서 적용될 수 있는 습식분쇄기를 이용하여 피분쇄물의 물시멘트비와 분쇄장비의 분쇄시간과 분쇄속도를 조정하여 최적분쇄능력을 파악하고 피분쇄물의 점도, 침투성 및 일축압축강도 등과 같은 제조인자별 물리적 특성을 평가하였다. 또한, 보통포틀랜드시멘트를 현장에서 초미립화 할 수 있는 마이크로 습식분쇄기와, 뭉쳐진 입자를 강제로 분리할 수 있는 고속전단믹서를 현장에 적용하여 전기비저항탐사와 변수위투수시험으로 주입효과의 변화를 검토하였다. 그 결과 침투효과가 대단히 우수하였고 고속전단믹서를 사용한 경우 주입재의 입자분리가 뛰어남을 알 수 있었다.

KAIST의 MAV용 MEMS 엔진 개발 현황 (Prgress in MEMS Engine Development for MAV Applications)

  • 마이크로 연소실을 장착한 MAV 추진 장치용 단기통 MEMS 엔진을 제작하였다. 본연구에서는 MEMS 크기의 왕복운동 내연기관의 타당성을 검증하고 실용화를 위한 설계 및 가공데이터를 축적하고자 하였다. 엔진 블록은 가공의 정밀도와 내열성등을 고려하여 감광유리 웨이퍼를 사용하였으며, 점화 전극은 베이스 플레이트 위에 니켈 도금으로 제작하였다. 감광유리판은 등방성 에칭의 특성이 탁월하여 마이크로 엔진의 실린더와 피스톤과 같이 비교적 깊은 식각이 가능함을 확인하였다. 전체 엔진은 세 개의 별도 가공된 레이어를 접착하여 조립한다. 본연구의 엔진 연소실은 깊이는 1mn, 폭 2mn이며, 피스턴은 수소-공기 예 혼합 가스의 연소압력에 의하여 구동된다. 가공된 엔진의 연소실험을 통하여, 점화, 화염전파 및 피스턴 구동을 확인하였으며, 실용화를 위한 연구가 요구되고 있다.

누에(Bombyx mori) 무름병을 야기하는 병원성 세균 Staphylococcus gallinarum의 동정 (Identification of a Pathogenic Bacterium, Staphylococcus gallinarum, to Bombyx mori)

  • 누에(Bombyx mori) 5령 유충에서 무름병 증상이 발견되었다. 세균성 병원균이 감염 누에 혈액에서 분리되었고, 본 연구에서 동정되었다. 분리된 세균을 각각의 누에 5령 유충에 $5{\times}10^{6}$ cfu(colony-forming unit) 농도로 혈강 주사되었을 때, 뚜렷한 무름병 증상을 유발시켰다. 이렇게 감염된 유충들은 접종 6일 후부터 죽기 시작하여, 10일 경과 후 처리된 유충 모두 사망하였다. Bergey의 세균동정집에 기록된 형태적 및 생리적 형질을 기준으로 이 곤충병원세균이 Staphylo-coccue gallinarum으로 판명되었다. 이 판정은 탄소원 분석 미생물동정장치($MicroLog^{\circledR}$) 분석 결과와 16S-23S rDNA internal transcribed space 구조에 의해서 확인되었다. 이 세균이 발휘하는 살충기작의 일환으로서, 감염 후 누에 유충 혈구에 세포치사 효과를 주어 패혈증을 유발하는 것으로 분석되었다.

Molecular Imaging of Arthritis in the Angiogenic Vasculature Using A 123I-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor Antibody

  • Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor (VEGFR) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis, which is angiogenesis dependent. Antibody-based molecular imaging improves targeting, and antibody radiolabeling is useful for monitoring biological events $in$ $vivo$ $via$ PET or SPECT. We investigated the potential of molecular imaging to diagnose arthritis with VEGFR-2 $in$ $vivo$. The $^{123}I$-VEGFR-2 antibody was prepared by the iodogen tube method. The radioligand was injected into arthritic mice, and micro SPECT/CT was performed. The arthritic mice were examined by 4.7-T MRI and immunohistochemistry. The $^{123}I$-VEGFR-2 antibody showed high uptake in the arthritic region at 1 h postinjection on SPECT/CT but no uptake in the control animals after radioligand injection. In MR images, the arthritic tissue of the mice was correlated with regions labeled by the $^{123}I$-VEGFR-2 antibody. Immunohistochemical localization showed markedly increased expression of VEGFR-2 in the endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and macrophages of the arthritic mice.
