Microholes with high aspect ratio are required in microstructures. Among various methods for producing the microhole, micro electrical discharge machining (MEDM) is very effective and useful process. But, it is difficult to machine the high aspect ratio holes below $100\;{\mu}m$ in diameter because machining condition becomes unstable due to bad removal of debris at deep hole. In this paper, ultrasonic vibration is applied to MEDM work fluid to make a high aspect ratio micro hole. It is shown that the vibration is effective in circulating the debris and increasing the machining rate. As a result, produced was a micro hole with $92\;{\mu}m$ entrance diameter, $81\;{\mu}m$ exit diameter and aspect ratio 23.
Pressure-drop in a micro-channel is critical when a hole diameter is less then 100um with the high aspect ratio, more than 40. To minimize these pressure loss for micro-channel applications is important and there would be the best hole diameter, taper angle, and their combinations. In this work, the parametric study for laser drilling of anodized material is conducted to obtain the micro-channel hole with high aspect ratio.
The objective of this study is to develop a highly accurate micro tool alignment system applicable to the micro machining technology. In a specific application such as micro hole punching, radial clearance between micro tools is order of a few micron. Under this micron scale tool clearance, accuracy of tool alignment is very important for ensuring hole quality. In the present study, a two-way image acquisition system was developed, which can produce overlapped image of both micro tools that face each other, and applied to the tool alignment in the micro punching. Also, to meet alignment accuracy of tools within $1\mu\textrm{m}$, the cross correlation image processing algorithm was employed. With this system, $25\mu\textrm{m}$ punching tools with $1\mu\textrm{m}$ radial clearance could be accurately aligned.
Micro drilling characteristics by EDM method was investigated. In detail, Micro tool electrode for EDM drilling was machined by use of WEDG method and micro hole was drilled using the machined tool electrode in SUS plate. The machining accuracy and time was compared in a different dielectric fluid. As a result, it was convinced that this method could be utilized as a fabrication technology of micro mold or micro 3 dimensional parts.
Rapid Prototype has been used to design and Production of part in a variety of fields ; Car, Electronic products, Aviation, Heavy industry etc. Moreover development of hardware gave rise to use the method of Rapid Prototype more and more at high precision and complicated shapes. Expecially, to be using process of products that shapes of Micro-hole ; Cellular phones, Antennas, Jewels, Semi conductor cases. In case of Micro-shape, precision of the shape turns on various condition ; Laser size, Laminate height, scanning speed, overcure, viscosity of resin, etc. Sometimes breaks out the case that interner hole of shape is blocked by viscosity of resin. The phenomenon has solved easily to reduce viscosity of resin. But, in case of the method brings about the problem that strength goes down in actuality products hardening. This study on verify to change of shape of Micro-hole and makes the semiconductor case which has shape of Micro-hole by using resin of higher viscosity, scanning speed and overcure
Micro-hole drilling (holes less than 0.5 mm in diameter with aspect ratios larger than 10) is gaining increased attention in a wide spectrum of precision production industries. Alternative methods such as EDM, laser drilling, etc. can sometimes replace mechanical micro-hole drilling but are not acceptable in PCB manufacture because they yield inferior hole quality and accuracy. The major difficulties in micro-hold drilling are related to wandering motions during the inlet stage, high aspect ratios, high temperature, etc. However, of all the difficulties, the most undesirable one is the increase of drilling force as the drill penetrates deeper into hold. This is caused mainly by chip related effects. Peck-drilling is thus widely used for deep hole drilling despite the fact that it leads to low productivity. Therefore, in this paper, a method of cutting force regulation is proposed to achieve continuous drilling. A proportional plus derivative (PD) and a sliding modecontrol algorithm will be implemented for controlling the spinle rotational frequeency. Experimental results will show that sliding mode control reduces the nominal cutting force and its variation better than the PD control, resulting in a number of advantages such as an increase in drill life, fast stabilization of the wandering motion, and precise positioning of the hole.
Micro-needles are used as transferring devices for sampling of tiny constitute substances from biological bodies. Typically, nickel is used as a coating to improve the rigidity of micro-needles. This study introduces the methodology to manufacture a WC needle with very high hardness and toughness. Micro-EDM technology was used to manufacture micro-needles with holes $130{\mu}m$ in diameter and $2300{\mu}m$ in length. A micro-needle was aligned to the micro-EDM electrode using a custom two degree-of-freedom alignment system. A three-step manufacturing technique was developed to drill a micro-hole using a WC electrode. In the first process, an electrode $105{\mu}m$ in diameter was used to make a hole. Electrodes of 90 and $105{\mu}m$ diameters were used in the second and third process, respectively. Consequently, a WC micro-needle with an inner hole of $135{\mu}m$ diameter, length of $2300{\mu}m$, and outer diameter of $300{\mu}m$ was developed.

Micro-electrical discharge machining (micro-EDM) is an effective method for machining all types of conductive materials regardless of hardness. Since micro-EDM is an electro-thermal process, the energy supplied by the pulse generator is an important factor in determining the effectiveness of the process. In this study, an investigation was conducted on the micro-EDM of tungsten carbide (WC) to compare the performance of transistor and resistance/capacitance (RC) pulse generators in obtaining the best quality micro-hole. The performance was measured by the machining time, material removal rate, relative tool wear ratio, surface quality, and dimensional accuracy. The RC generator was more suited for minimizing the pulse energy, which is a requirement for fabricating micro-parts. The smaller-sized debris formed by the low-discharge energy of RC micro-EDM could be easily flushed away from the machined zone, resulting in a surface free of burrs and resolidified molten metal. The RC generator also required much less time to obtain the same quality micro-hole in WC. Therefore, RC generators are better suited for fabricating micro-structures, producing good surface quality and better dimensional accuracy than the transistor generators, despite their higher relative tool wear ratio.
The main objective of this study is to consider the effect of fatigue crack behavior on the variable depth of micro hole defects in SM20C at the symmetric position. The fatigue crack propagation test is performed by rotary bending fatigue test machine. The relationship between crack length(2a), cycles(N) and crack growth rate(da/dN) are investigated in this study. The result from the rotary bending fatigue test under the applied stress at 250MPa turned out that the fatigue life illustrated almost constant when the depth of symmetric micro hole deflects is both part A and B at the hope depth(h) = 0.5mm.
