Development of a Hot-Embossing Process using Ceramic Glass Molds for Polymer Micro Structures (글라스 주형을 이용한 폴리머 미세 형상 핫-엠보싱 공정 연구)

  • A ceramic glass mold was developed for micro hot-embossing and replicated polymer parts are fabricated. The glass-ceramic micro mold could be fabricated with a laser process and a wet etching process and the fabrication time could be saved a lot. Various polymer micro structures can be obtained by hot-embossing. The process parameters such as ho-embossing temperatures or pressures were investigated and optimized. This process can be applied for fabrication of micro structures for flip-chips or micro fluidic channels for bio-engineering. The advantages and disadvantages of this process are discussed, too.

Fabrication of 3D Micro Structure Using Micro Electrical Discharge Milling (마이크로 방전 밀링을 이용한 미세 구조물 제작)

  • As mechanical structures are minimized, the demand on micro dies and molds has increased. Machining complex 3D shapes requires fabrication procedures for preparing the electrodes. Micro electrical discharge milling using a simple shape electrode can produce 3D micro structure. In this paper the machining characteristics of micro electrical discharge milling according to depth of cut and capacitance are investigated. The machining time is diminished when simple tool-paths and algorithms for changing the feedrate are applied. But a distorted bottom shape and a tapered wall shape are inevitable after machining. The distorted bottom shape and the taper angle of wall are reduced by finish machining.

  • Although Hereafter a mass production will claim for patterning nano sized thickness or line in micro-nano industry. existent lithography fabrication has many usable fields, it has complex fabrication steps, expensive values and row work rates. Development of Dip-pen type nano plotter using polymer actuator can construct row cost mass production system because it will change existent lithography fabrication more simple and easy.

  • When femtosecond laser pulses are focused inside the bulk of transparent materials, the intensity in the focal volume becomes high enough to produce permanent structural modifications. This technique has been applied to fabricate three-dimensional photonic structures such as optical memory, waveguides, gratings, and couplers inside a wide variety of transparent materials. In this paper, we review the fabrication of optical elements in glasses with femtosecond laser pulses, including the fabrication of waveguides, couplers, Bragg gratings, zone plates, holographic memory, and micro holes.

  • A comb drive electrostatic micro gripper was designed and fabricated. We designed it analytically using electrostatic force and cantilever deflection equation. In fabrication, we used LIGA-like technology consisted of Ni electroplating through polyimide patterned by $O_2$ Plasma RIE and Al sacrificial layer. This micro gripper was designed to handle an optical fiber which is $125{\mu}m$ in diameter.

  • Scaffold fabrication for regenerating functional human tissues has an important role in tissue engineering, and there has been much progress in research on scaffold fabrication. However, current methods are limited by the mechanical properties of existing biodegradable materials and the irregular structures that they produce. Recently, Solid freeform fabrication (SFF) technology was remarked by fabricating 3D free-form micro-structures. Among SFF technologies, we tried to fabricate scaffolds using micro-stereolithography which contain the highest resolution of all SFF technologies and precision deposition system which can use various biomaterials. And we developed the CAD/CAM system to automate the process of scaffold fabrication and fabricate the patient customized scaffolds. These results showed the unlimited possibilities of our SFF technologies in tissue engineering.

  • In this paper, we present the fabrication of tunable capacitors and 3-dimensional inductors. This work was related to fabricated 3-dimensional device for need of micro device in developing new intelligence age. This device was fabricated by electroplating used electroplating PR and high-vacuum evaporation of metal. Fabricated micro-inductor is consisted of air-bridge on electroplating rod and electroplated core. Micro-capacitor is consisted of thin metal membrane and electroplated core. Electroplating material is used Cu metal solvent. Air-gap between metal-layers function as almost perfect isolation layer. The most advantage of our micro-inductor and micro-capacitor compared to present device is a possibility that can fabricate on RF MEMS(microelectro-mechanical systems) application with high performance and various function.   • There have been several methods to fabricate carbon nanotube (CNT) emitters, which include as-grown, spraying, screen-printing, electrophoresis and bonding methods. Unfortunately, these techniques generally suffer from two main problems. One is a weak mechanical adhesion between CNTs and the cathode. The as-grown, spraying and electrophoresis methods show a weak mechanical adhesion between CNTs and the cathodes, which induces CNT emitters pulled out under a high electric field. The other is a severe degradation of the CNT tip due to organic binders used in the fabrication process. The screen-printing method which is widely used to fabricate CNT emitters generally shows a critical degradation of CNT emitters caused by the organic binder. Such kinds of problems induce a short lifetime of the CNT field emitters which may limit their practical applications. Therefore, a robust CNT emitter which has the strong mechanical adhesion and no degradation is still a great challenge. Here, we introduce a simple and effective technique for fabrication of CNT field emitter, namely filtration-taping-transfer method. The CNT emitters fabricated by the filtration-taping-transfer method show the low turn-on electric fields, the high emission current, good uniformity and good stability. The enhanced emission performance of the CNT emitters is mainly attributed to high emission sites on the emitter area, and to good ohmic contact and strong mechanical adhesion between the emitters and cathodes. The CNT emitters using a simple and effective fabrication method can be applied for various field emission applications such as field emission displays, lamps, e-beam sources, and x-ray sources.   • Micro-fabrication techniques such as lithography and LIGA processes usually require large investment and are suitable for mass production. Therefore, there is a need for a new micro-fabrication technique that is flexible and more cost effective. In this paper a novel, economical and flexible method of producing micro-pattern on silicon wafer is presented. This method relies on selective removal of mask by mechanical cutting. Then micro-pattern is produced by chemical etching. V-shaped grooved of about 3 ${\mu}m$ wide and 2 ${\mu}m$ deep has been made on ${SiO_2}m$ coated silicon wafer with this method. This method may be utilized for making microstructures in MEMS application at low cost.

  • Low power bridge type micro gas sensors were fabricated by micro machining technology with TMAH (Tetra Methyl Ammonium Hydroxide) solution. The sensing devices with different heater materials such as metal and poly-silicon were obtained using CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) compatible process. The tellurium films as a sensing layer were deposited on the micro machined substrate using shadow silicon mask. The low power micro gas sensors showed high sensitivity to NO with high speed. The pure tellurium film used micro gas sensor showed good sensitivity than transition metal (Pt, Ti) used tellurium film.
