The metasedimentary rocks of the Nampo Croup consisting of metaconglomerates, metasandstones, phyllites are exposed in the area of the Daechcon beach and Maryangri, Seocheon-gun. Their typical metamorphic assemblages of Bt-Mus-Grt-Qtz (${\pm}Pl{\pm}Chl$) and Bt-Mus-Qtz (${\pm}Pl{\pm}Chl$) indicate that they have been under intermediate P/T type metamorphism and were metamorphosed to garnet zone grade of amphibolite-facies during the Daebo Orogeny. Pressure-temperature conditions of peak metamorphism estimated from geothermobarometries are $560{\sim}595^{\circ}C$, $6.9{\sim}8.2\;kb$ respectively. The results of K-Ar biotite age determination are $143.2{\pm}3.6\;Ma$, $122.6{\pm}2.4\;Ma$ and $124.8{\pm}2.4\;Ma$ and the last two ages are considered as the results of later-stage thermal perturbation. On the bases of the formation age of Daedong Supergroup of $187{\sim}172\;Ma$ (Han et al., 2006; Jeon et al., 2007) combined with the results of this study, the hypothetical model of tectonometamorphic evolution of the study area during Daebo Orogeny is proposed. Crustal thickening resulted from folding and duplexing of thrusts in the area initiated at around 175 Ma just after sedimentation of Nampo Croup. And then rapid cooling by normal faulting due to crustal extention followed immediately after the peak metamorphism to the closure temperature of biotite.
The Miwon-Boeun area in the central and northern part of Okcheon metamorphic zone, Korea, is composed of Okcheon Supergroup and Mesozoic Cheongju and Boeun granitoids which intruded it. The Okcheon Supergroup consists mainly of quartzite (Midongsan Formation), meta-calcareous rocks (Daehyangsan Formation, Hwajeonri Formation), meta-psammitic rocks (Unkyori Formation), meta-politic rocks (Munjuri Formation), meta-conglomeratic rocks (Hwanggangni Formation) in the study area, showing a zonal distribution of NE trend. Its' general trend is locally changed into NS to EW trend in and around high-angle fault of NS or NW trend. This study focused on deformation history of the Okcheon Supergroup, suggesting that the geological structure was formed at least by four phases of deformation. (1) The first phase of deformation occurred under ductile shear deformation of top-to-the southeast movement, forming sheath fold or A-type fold, asymmetric isoclinal fold, NW-SE trending stretching lineation. (2) The second phase of deformation took place under compression of NW-SE direction, forming subhorizontal, tight upright fold of M trend in the earlier phase, and formed semi-brittle thrust fault (Guryongsan Thrust Fault) of top-to-the southeast movement and associated snake-head fold in the later phase. (3) The third phase of deformation formed subhorizontal, open recumbent fold through gravitational or extensional collapses which might be generated from crustal thickening and gravitational instability. (4) The fourth phase of deformation formed moderately plunging, steeply inclined kink fold related to high-angle faulting, being closely connected with the local change of NE-trending regional foliation into NS to EW direction of strike in the vicinity of the high-angle fault.
The granitic plutons associated with Ogcheon geosynclinal zone can be grouped into three different subzones; SE-Subzone for the migmatitic and schistose granites of the southeast margin, 101-181m.y. old; NW-Subzone for those of the northwest margin, 112-163m. y. old; and C-Subzone for those of central part of the zone, 63-183m.y. old. The intrusives in C-Subzone are further subdivided into the older, adamellite to granodiorite (148-183m.y. old) and the younger, perthitic granites (63-106m,y. old). The metallogenic distribution of South Korea suggests that, in the Ogcheon Zone, it is possible to delineate an elongated polymetallogenic province in the general orientation of the zone intimately related with the migmatite and plutonic zones mentioned. Moreover, the mineralization in the province was basically controlled by the patterns of local geology involving country rocks and related igneous bodies, that permit subdivision of the province into the following three parts: Northeast (NE) Province consists dominantly of thick Paleozoic calcareous sediments; Middle (M) Province is characterized by predominant argillaceous and partly calcareous sediments of Precambrian to Late Paleozoic age; and Southwest (SW) Province consisting mainly of volcanic and arenaceous sediments of Mesozoic age. The three different plutonic zones with three different country rock provinces above mentioned make a combination which consists of nine classes. Each class can be assumed to be characterized by specific mineralization type. In order to classify the mineralization types, the present study sampled twenty six ore deposits and mineralized areas in Ogcheon zone as shown figure 2; eight ore deposits from plutonic SE-Subzone, ten from the plutonic NE-Subzone and eight from the plutonic C-Subzone. The characteristics of the classes are as follows: NE-SE is predominant in Au-Ag vein and Sn-migmatite of katazonal occurrence; NE-C is most productive in Pb-Zn and remarkable in Fe contact deposit in mesozone and partly Pb-Zn-Cu skarn in limestone and subordinate in mesozone and partly Pb-Zn pipes; M-SE is considerable in Au-Ag vein and rare elements (Nb, Ta, etc.) of pegmatite; M-C is predominant in F-veins in epizone and Mo-W, Fe, Cu veins occur in replacement type; M-NW is productive in Fe metamorphic and skarn types, partly remarkable in Cu, Pb-Zn contact; SW-SE is barren in mineralization related to Jurassic igneous rocks; SW-C is predominant in alunite and pyrophyllite in tuffs; and SW-NW is scarece in Pb-Zn, Cu, As and Au-Ag veins.
The major continental blocks in NE-Asia are the North China Block and the South China Blo, which have collided, starting from the Korean peninsula. The suture zone in NE China between two blocks is well defined from the QinIing-Dabie-Orogenic Belt to the Jiaodong (Sulu) Belt by the geological and geophysical interpretation. The discovery of high pressure metamorphic rocks in the Hongsung area of the Korean peninsula can be used to estimate the suture zone. This indicates that the suture zone in the Jiaodong Belt might be extended to Hongsung area. However, due to the lack of geological and geophysical data over the Yellow sea, the extension of the suture zone to the Korean peninsula across the Yellow Sea is obscure. To find out the tectonic relationship between NE China and the Korean peninsula it is necessary to complete U-ie homogeneous geophysical dataset of NE Asia, which can be provided by satellite observations. The CHAMP lithospheric magnetic field (MF3) and CHAMP-GRACE gravity field, combined with surface measured data, allow a much more accurate in-ference of tectonic structures than previously available. The CHAMP magnetic anomaly map reveals significant magnetic lows in the Yellow Sea near Nanjing and Hongsung, where are characterized by gravity highs on U-ie CHAMP-GRACE gravity anomaly map. To evaluate the depth and location of poten-tial field anomaly causative bodies, the Euler Deconvolution method is implemented. After comparing the two potential field solutions with the simplified geological map containing tectonic lines and the distribution of earthquakes epicenters, it is found that the derived structure boundaries of both are well coincident with the seismic activities as well as with the tectonic lineaments. The interpretation of the CHAMP satellite magnetic and GRACE satellite gravity datasets reveal two tectonic boundaries in U-ie Yellow Sea and the Korean peninsula, indicating U-ie norttiern and southern margins of the suture zone between the North China Block and the South China Block. The former is extended from the Jiaodong Belt in East China to the Imjingang Belt on the Korean peninsula, the later from Nanjing, East China, to Hongsung, the Korean peninsula. The tectonic movement in or near the suture zone might be responsible for the seismic activities in the western region of the Korean Peninsula and the development of the Yellow Sea sedimentary basin.
In addition to anthropogenic origins, fluorine (F) is naturally enriched in rocks due to geological events, such as magma dissemination, hydrothermal alteration, mineralization, and fault activities. Generally, it has been well known that F is chiefly enriched in the region of igneous and metamorphic rocks, and biotite granite was mostly distributed in the study area. The F enrichment mechanism was not sufficiently elucidated in the previous studies, and the study on a fault zone was conducted to reveal it more precisely. The mineral composition of the fault zone was identical to that of the Eulwangsan biotite granite (EBG), but they were quantitatively different between the two areas. Compared with the EBG, the fault zone showed relatively higher contents of quartz and F-bearing minerals (fluorite, sericite) but lower contents of plagioclase and alkali feldspar. This difference was likely due to hydrothermal mineral alterations. The results of microscopic observations supported this, and the generation of F-bearing minerals by hydrothermal alterations was recognized in most samples. Accordingly, it might be interpreted that the mineralogical and petrological differences observed in the same-age biotite granite widely distributed in the Yongyudo was caused by the hydrothermal alterations due to small-scale geological events.
Pyeonghae Series, Giseong Series. Wonnam Series, Pyeonghae Unite gneiss, Hada leuco-granite gneiss are the Precambrian gneisses distributed in the north-eastern part of the Yeongnam massif. Even though there are no difference in lithologies between Pyeonghae and Wonnam Serieses. they have been regarded as different Serieses because of the presence of Giseong Series which has been considered meta-volcanics. However, field investigations reveal that the Giseong Series represents ductile shear zone having meta-volcanics-like appearances in some outcrops. The fact that both Pyeonghae and Wonnam Serieses experienced high grade metamorphism reaching upper amphibolite facies implies that any volcanics between these two Serieses should also occur as high-grade metamorphic rocks at present. The absence of Giseong Series as a low-grade meta-volcanics indicates the absence of logical base to distinguish Pyeonghae and Wonnam Serieses. Therefore, these two Serieses should be regarded as identical Series.

This paper was researched that provenance of the raw material for bronze relics excavated Cheonghaejin using the distribution of lead isotope ratio based on galena ores of South Korea. Also we want to make sure that the trace elements appearing as a by-product can be used as a secondary indicator for provenance research. In the case of the galena map of the East-North Asia (Mabuchi, 1985), data are plotted in China area. Therefore it is estimated that most bronzes were produced with lead ore from China. On the other hand, the same data are plotted in the Okcheon Metamorphic Belt and Yeongnam Massif of the galena map of South Korea (KOPLID, 2012). Also the contents of Ag and Sb are available as indicator due to separate ores from similar zone in lead isotope ratio.
The Namwon and Sunchang granites are neighbouring plutons intruding the Yeongnam massif and the Okcheon metamorphic belt, respectively in the southwestern part of the Korean peninsula. In this study, SHRIMP zircon U-Pb ages are determined from these plutons. The results show that the emplacement age of the Namwon granite is $185.8{\pm}0.9(2{\sigma})$ Ma. We obtained $175.0{\pm}2.0(2{\sigma})$ Ma from the northern part and $179.8{\pm}0.9(2{\sigma})$ Ma from the central part of the Sunchang granite, yielding $177.4{\pm}1.3(2{\sigma})$ Ma as the average age of the pluton. Such age results confirm that the Honam shear zone, which cause marked deformation of the Sunchang granite, was active after ca. 175 Ma.
South Korea is divided tectonically into four segments. The Kyonggi-Ryongnam massif is composed of Precambrian schists and gneisses and consititutes a base for the succeeding formations. The Okcheon geosynclinal zone in the Kyonggi-Ryongnam massif strectches from southwest to northeast diagonally across the peninsula in a direction known as the Sinian direction. Its northeastern part is composed primarily of Paleozoic to early Mesozoic sedimentary formations and the southwestern part of the late Precambrian Okcheon metamorphic series. The Kyongsang basin occupies the southeast and southwest of the peninsula and is made up of a thick series of Cretaceous terrestrial sedimentary and andesitic rocks. A few small Tertiary basins are scattered in the eastern coastal area and in Cheju Island, and are composed of marine sedimentary and basaltic rocks. Jurassic Daebo granites intrude the Kyonggi-Ryongnam massif and the Okcheon zone in the Sinian direction, whereas late Cretaceous Bulkuksa granites are scattered randomly in the Kyongsang basin.

Restoration of DMZ has come up with the discussion on the peaceful use of the DMZ and the conservation plan of the army. In this study, we aim to identify soil characteristics of 108 sites to figure out environmental conditions around the iron fence of DMZ where vegetation has been removed repeatedly. Based on the soil characteristics and climate variables, hierarchy clustering was performed to categorize sites. As a result, we categorized 108 sites into 4 types: middle elevation region, lowland, East coast lowland, other areas. Group of 'other area' is only high in nutrient and clay proportion. Others are in igneous rock and metamorphic rocks with a high proportion of sand and lower nutrients than the optimum range of growth in Korean forest soil. The middle elevation region has a high altitude, low temperature. The east coast lowland has a high temperature in January and low precipitation. The lowland has a low altitude and high temperature. This category provides the environmental condition around the DMZ fence and can be used to select plants for restoration. The restoration project around the DMZ iron fence should satisfy the security of military plans, which means that functional restoration is prior to ecological restoration such as vegetation management under a power line. Additionally, improvement of soil quality and surface stability through restoration projects is required to enhance the resilience of the ecosystem in DMZ.
