  • The Indonesian Archipelago is located in the southern tip of the Eurasian plate. The diverse subduction system of the Indonesia region records interactions between three megaplates (Eurasian, Indian-Australian, and Pacific plates) and many smaller plates. The geology of Indonesian Archipelago is characterized by many factors such as subduction zone complexes, magmatic arc rocks associated with plate tectonics, the arc granite and volcanic rocks, and the related metamorphic rocks. The base-metal deposits of Indonesia have a great effect on petrochemical character of parent rocks and geotectonic environments. The base-metal deposits can be classified into four types as hosted by felsic-intermediate intrusive rocks, hosted by ultramafic rocks, hosted by volcanic rocks, and hosted by sedimentary rocks. The gold deposits are divided into three types: epithermal gold deposits, porphyry copper associated gold deposits, and alluvial gold deposits. Especially, Indonesian island uc, with its numerous plates tectonic, has an high potential for epithermal gold deposits. Indonesia with many old and present subduction zones and sub-aerial calcalkaline volcanic rocks is a very promising country for epithermal gold mineralization.

  • We fabricated plate typed shunt resistors composed of carbon nanotube (CNT) and metal alloy for measuring DC current. CNT plates were prepared from dispersed CNT/Urethane solution by squeezing method. Cu/Ni alloys were prepared from composition-designed alloy wires for adjusting the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) by pressing them. As well, we fabricated a hybrid resistor by squeezing the CNT/Urethane solution on the metal alloy plate directly. In order to confirm the composition ratio of the Cu/Ni alloy, we used an energy-dispersed X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Cross-section and surface morphology were analyzed by using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Finally, we measured the initial resistance of 2.35 Ω at 25℃ for the CNT paper resistor, 7.56 mΩ for the alloy resistor, and 7.38 mΩ for the hybrid resistor. The TCR was also measured to be -778.72 ppm/℃ at the temperature range between 25℃ to 125℃ for the CNT paper resistor, 824.06 ppm/℃ for the alloy resistor, and 17.61 ppm/℃ for the hybrid resistor. Some of the hybrid resistors showed a near-zero TCR of 1.38, -2.77, 2.66, and 5.49 ppm/℃, which might be the world best-value ever reported. Consequently, we could expect an error-free measurement of the DC current using this resistor.

  • A simple metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor in a standard $0.25{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$ digital CMOS process is described. Using all six interconnect layers, this capacitor exploits both the lateral and vertical electrical fields to increase the capacitance density (capacitance per unit area). Compared to a conventional parallel plate capacitor in the four upper metal layers, this capacitor achieves lower parasitic substrate capacitance, and improves the capacitance density by a factor of 4. Measurements and an extracted model for the capacitor are also presented. Calculations, model and measurements agree very well.

  • This study aims to examine the effectiveness of electromagnetic pulse shielding in cast-in-place protective shelters using corrugated metal-plates, and then reviews their usability for the Republic of Korea Army. The Korea Corps of Engineering has evaluated corrugated metal-plates as a construction material for cast-in-place structures, which have to defend against mechanical impacts as well as electromagnetic pulses. Corrugated metal-plate is known as a superb mechanical protective material, so much so that it has been employed in ammunition magazines and artillery platforms in the armed forces. Moreover, as a metal, such as steel and copper, it is universally recognized as one of the most effective electromagnetic pulse shielding materials. In addition to effectively shielding from electromagnetic pulses and protecting against mechanical impacts, corrugated metal-plates should prove to be an appropriate construction material for the cast-in-place protective shelter in terms of construction availability and economic feasibility. The shielding effectiveness of the suggested structures is examined based on MIL-STD 188-125-1. A few frequency bands need an increase of 15~30dB in shielding effectiveness because of unbidden apertures caused by flaws associated with welding, assembling, and material deformation. However, allowing for the approximately 40dB of shielding provided by soil; the examined structure, which is buried underground, can offset its shortcomings sufficiently.

  • Premixed combustion has many advantages, including low CO and NOx emissions and a small combustor volume. These characteristics allow a compact design and wide application to condensing boilers with high thermal efficiencies. This study focused on the combustion characteristics in a premixed combustion burner using metal fiber and a throttle body. The results showed that a blue flame was found to be very stable at a heating load of 6,250-25,000 kcal/h when implementing the proper metal fiber, baffle plate, and throttle body. The NOx emission was less than 11 ppm under an equivalence ratio of 0.724-0.795, and the CO emission was less than 50 ppm under the same equivalence ratio. The thermal efficiency, which is a very important index when condensing a gas boiler, was observed to be above 96.3% under an equivalence ratio of 0.750.

  • Six ornamental metal quiver fittings were excavated from stone chamber No.1 of the ancient tombs of Jeongchon, Bokam-ri, Naju. The ornamental quiver fittings are metal, but the body of the quiver was made of organic material, so that it corroded and disappeared in the burial environment. The ornamental metal quiver fittings were made in pairs, and decorated one quiver according to the location they were found in and their forms. The ornamental metal quiver fitting can be divided into two types: A band style ornament (帶輪狀金具) which decorates the arrow pouch, and a board style ornament (板狀金具) which decorates the board connecting the waist belt. Two ornamental metal quiver fittings excavated from wooden coffin 2 of stone chamber No.1, were made in the band style, while the ornamental metal quiver fittings from southeast of stone chamber No.1 were identified as two boardstyle ornaments and two band-style ornaments for what was presumed to be belt loops. Material analysis of the ornamental metal quiver fittings shows that they are made of a gilt bronze plate attached to an iron plate, and the surface is marked with a speck of chisel to make lines and patterns. Chemical composition analysis (XRF) established that 24~40wt% Au and 50~93wt% Cu were detected on the gold surface, and it was confirmed that bronze corrosion had taken place on the gilt surface. SEM-EDS analysis of the gold plating layer identified a working line for glossing, and 7~9wt% Hg and an amalgam of gilt layers was detected, confirming the amalgam gilding. CT and FT-IR analysis established that the band style was double-layered with silk fabric under the iron plate, and there was also a lacquer piece underneath. The band-style ornaments have two layers of silk under the iron plate, along with lacquer pieces. Adding the fabric to the arrow pouch increases adhesion and decorative value. It is assumed that the lacquer pieces indicate that the surface of the lacquered arrow pouch had fallen together with the ornaments. On the other hand, the board-style ornaments have a thick layer of organic matter under the iron plate, but this is difficult to identify and appears to be a remnant of the quiver board. The characteristics of these ornamental metal quiver fittings were similar in Baekje, Silla, and Gaya cultures from the late 4th to the late 5th centuries, and enable us to identify the art of ancient gold craftwork at that time.

  • Many studies have been made on the masticatory and esthetic effects of prosthodontic treatments, but few on the restoration of pronunciation, especially in complete denture wearers. The purpose of this study is to provide a basis that could be of help to the complete denture wearers' speech adaptation by analyzing the influence of the palatal coverage upon the duration of consonants and vowels with the method of experimental phonetics. For this study, metal plates and resin plates were made for 3 male subjects in their twenties, who have good occlusion, and do not have speech and hearing disorders. Then 8 Korean consonants and 4 Korean vowels were selected, systemically considering phonetic variants such as the place and manner of articulation, lenis/fortis, mutual effect of each phoneme, etc. They were combined into meaningless tested words in the form of /VCV/, and were included in the carrier sentences. Each informant uttered the sentences 1) without the plate, 2) with the metal plate, 3) with the resin plate. The recorded data were analyzed through the waveform of sounds and spectrogram by using the program SoundEdit, Signalize, Statview 512+for the Macintosh computer. The duration of each segment was measured by searching for the boundaries between the preceding vowels and consonants, and between the consonants and the following vowels. The study led to the conclusion that. 1. With the palatal plate, the duration of all the tested words increased and the duration increased more with the resin plate than with the metal plate. 2. With the palatal plate, the duration of all the preceding vowels, consonants, and following vowels increased, but the temporal structure of the tested words was maintained. 3. As for the manner of articulation, fricative /s/(ㅅ) was greatly influenced by both kinds of palatal plates. 4. As for the place of articulation, alveolar sounds /d/(ㄷ), /n/(ㄴ) were greatly influnced by the kinds of palatal plates, and the velar sounds /n/(ㅇ), /g/(ㄱ) were influenced by the platal plates, but the kind of the palatal plates did not show any significance. 5. As for the lenis/fortis, lenis was influenced more by the kind of the palatal plates. 6. As for the influence of vowels upon each segment in the tested words, palatal vowel /i/(ㅣ) had greater influence than pharyngeal vowel /a/(ㅏ), and following vowels than preceding vowels.

  • Purpose : An investigation has been carried out on the factors which affect the response reading of thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD-100) loaded with thin material in high energy Photon. The aim of the study was to assess the energy response of TLD-100 to the therapeutic ranges of photon beam. Materials and Methods : In this technique, TLD-100 (abbreviated as TLD) chips and three different thin material (Tin, Gold, and Tissue equivalent plastic plate) which mounted on the TLD chip were used in the clinical photon beam. The thickness of each metal plates was 0.1 mm and TE plastic plate was 1 mm thick. These compared with the photon energy dependence of the sensitivities of TLD (normal chip), TLD loaded with Tin or Gold plate, for the photon energy range 6 MV to 15 MV, which was of interest in radiotherapy. Results : The enhancement of surface dose in the TLD with metal plate was clearly detected. The TLD chips with a Gold plate was found to larger response by a factor of 1.83 in 10 MV photon beam with respect to normal chip. The sensitivity of TLD loaded with Tin was less than that for normal TLD and TLD loaded with Gold. The relative sensitivity of TLD loaded with metal has little energy dependence. Conclusion : The good stability and linearity with respect to monitor units of TLD loaded with metal were demonstrated by relative measurements in high energy Photon ($6\~15$ MV) beams. The TLD laminated with metals embedded system in solid water phantom is a suitable detector for relative dose measurements in a small beam size and surface dose.

  • Stainless steel was applied as bipolar plate (BP) of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) due to high mechanical strength, electrical conductivity, and good machinability. However, stainless steel was corroded and increased contact resistance resulting PEMFC performance decrease. Although the corrosion resistance could be improved by surface treatment such as noble metal coating, there is a disadvantage of cost increase. The stainless steel corrosion behavior and passive layer influence on PEMFC performance should be studied to improve durability and economics of metal bipolar plate. In this study, SUS316L bipolar plate of 25 cm2 active area was manufactured, and experiments were conducted for corrosion behavior at an anode and cathode. The influence of SUS316L BP corrosion on fuel cell performance was measured using the polarization curve, impedance, and contact resistance. The metal ion concentration in drained water was analyzed during fuel cell operation with SUS316L BP. It was confirmed that the corrosion occurs more severely at the anode than at the cathode for SUS316L BP. The contact resistance was increased due to the passivation of SUS316L during fuel cell operation, and metal ions continuously dissolved even after the passive layer formation.

  • A ball moving on a beam is a typical nonlnear dynamic system, which is often adopted to proof test diverse control schemes. Ball and plate system is the extension of the traditional ball and beam problem that moves a metal ball on a rigid plate. In this paper, a trajectory planning and tracking problem is proposed for ball and plate system, which is to control the ball from a point to another without hitting the obstacles. Our scheme is composed of three controllers, TS type optimal path tracking controller, mandani type obstacle avoidance controller and trajectory planning controller that determines the desired trajectory. But this type of construction can give rise to chattering executions. Because the difference of contributions from concurrent controllers can cause behaviors unsmoothly. We propose fuzzy pid supervision control1er to handle this problem.
