And different properties of materials could cause failure of structural reliability due to the various operating temperatures. Especially for front bezel with thin and slender structure, the effect of temperature is significant, and the design for crack protection is crucial for thermal reliability of displays. In this study, it is prescribed the behavior of the front bezel in flat panel display for various operation temperatures and proposed design parameters to ensure the structural reliability of displays.

  • In order to show the efficiency and accuracy of an expert drawbead model, finite element simulations of auto-body panel stampings are carried out. For numerical modeling of the drawbead of a panel die, the drawbead restraining force and bead-exit thinning calculated by the expert model are imposed to a node nearest to the drawbead position as a boundary condition, Finite element simulations show that the expert model provides the accurate solution, guarantees the stable convergence, and has the merit in the computation time.

  • This paper presents a compact and low-power on-chip touch sensor and readout circuit using shunt proximity touch sensor and its design scheme. In the proposed touch sensor readout circuit, the touch panel condition depending on the proximity of the finger is directly converted into the corresponding voltage level without additional signal conditioning procedures. Furthermore, the additional circuitry including the comparator and the flip-flop does not consume any static current, which leads to a low-power design scheme. A new prototype touch sensor readout integrated circuit was fabricated using complementally metal oxide silicon (CMOS) $0.18{\mu}m$ technology with core area of $0.032mm^2$ and total current of $125{\mu}A$. Our measurement result shows that an actual 10.4 inches capacitive type touch screen panel (TSP) can detect the finger size from 0 to 1.52 mm, sharply.

  • A sectional analysis of trunk-lid carried out by using the equilibrium approach based on the force balance together with geometric relations and plasticity theory. In computing a force balance equation, it is required to define a geometric curve approximating the shape of sheet metal at any step of deformation from the interaction between the die and the deformed sheet. The trunk-lid panel material is assumed to possess normal anisotropy and to obey Hill's new yield criterion. Deformation of each section of trunk-lid panel is simulated and composed to get the three-dimensional shape by using CAD technique. It was shown that the three-dimensional shape composition of the two-dimensional analysis.

  • In recent domestic automotive industry, applications of computer simulation to the manufacturing of stamping dies for inner and outer body panels which greatly affect durability and aesthetic quality of automobiles, have been increased. Enhancement of die quality, and reduction of total die manufacturing time and consequently manufacturing cost are the visible outcome. However, to successfully apply the result of simulation by a commercial package to the die manufacturing, development of an optimal die manufacturing process is required upon the completion of analysis of forte and shortcomings of available sheet metal forming softwares in the market. Based on the results of numerical analysis of front door outer panel forming, this paper evaluates the applicability of simulation results to the real die making for automotive body panels. Also, it attempts to select an optimal die manufacturing process including design, machining and tryout. Lastly, it discusses the expected effects by adopting the selected process in a real stamping die manufacturing facility.

  • This study presents the free vibrational responses of bi-directional axially graded cylindrical shell panels using 3D graded finite element approximation under a temperature field. The cylindrical shell panel is graded in two directions and made of metal-ceramic materials. To extract material properties, the Voigt model is combined with a Power-law material distribution. Convergence and validation studies are performed on the developed computational model to ensure its accuracy and effectiveness. Furthermore, a parametric study is performed to evaluate the developed model, which demonstrates that geometrical parameters, imperfect materials (porosity), support conditions, and surface temperature all have a significant impact on the free vibration responses of a bi-directional axially graded cylindrical shell panel in a thermal environment.

  • The AutoForm previously used the membrane element and it accomplished sheet metal forming analysis. The membrane analysis has been widely applied to various sheet metal forming processes because of its time effectiveness. However, it is well-known that the membrane analysis can not provide correct information for the processes which have considerable bending effects. In this research experimental results were compared with the analysis results obtained by using the shell element which is applied newly in the AutoForm commercial software. The shell element is a compromise element between continuum element and membrane element. The Finite element method by using shell element is the most efficient numerical method. From this research, it is known that FEA by using shell element can predict accurately the problems happened in actual experimental auto-body panel.

  • In this paper, we propose a numerical method to model temperature dependent threshold voltage shift observed in metal oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs). The proposed model is then implemented in AIM-SPICE circuit simulation tool. The proposed method consists of modeling the well-known stretched-exponential time dependent threshold voltage shift and their temperature dependent coefficients. The outputs from AIM-SPICE tool and the stretched-exponential model at different temperatures in the literature are compared and they show a good agreement. Since metal oxide TFTs are the promising candidate for flat panel displays, the proposed method will be a good stepping stone to help enhance reliability of fast-evolving display circuits.

  • Many studies have been focused on how to manufacture ultra light metal structures and optimize them. In this study, we introduced a new idea to make sandwich panels with quasi-Kagome truss cores. First, metal sheets with a peculiar pattern of slits were expanded to be meshes, they are crimped into a triangular wave pattern, and then one third of struts were bent reversely to be quasi-Kagome trusses. Finally, two face sheets were bonded on the upper and the lower sides. The bending strength was estimated through elementary mechanics for the sandwich specimens with two kinds of face sheet the results of estimation were compared with the those of finite element analyses and experiments.

  • To improve the luminous efficacy of PDPs, an AC PDP with new metal electrode structure is suggested. Operating voltage margin, power consumption, luminance, luminous efficacy, addressing jitter and ICCD image of test panel with proposed structure are measured, to compared with performances of the conventional ITO structure and proposed structures. To enhance luminous efficacy, we designed new structure which have asymmetric metal electrode structure. The experimental results show that the suggested structure shows luminance to maximum 89% and luminous efficacy to maximum 107% compared with conventional ITO standard structure. In addition, proposed structures with asymmetric electrode show low power consumption by $2{\sim}3%$, high luminance by $5{\sim}7%$, and high luminous efficacy by $2{\sim}3%$ compared with proposed symmetric electrode structures.
