In the finite element analysis of metal forming Processes using general Lagrangian formulation, element nodes in the mesh move and elements are distorted as the material is deformed. The excessive degeneracy of mesh interrupts finite element analysis and thus increases the error of plastic deformation energy, In this study, a remeshing scheme using so-called mesh compression method is proposed to effectively analyze the flash which is generated usually in hot forging processes. In order to verify the effectiveness of the method, several examples are tested in two-dimensional and three-dimensional problems.

In this work, TCO-less dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) using Ti-mesh layer is fabricated for high-efficient low-cost solar cell application. The Ti-mesh metal can replace TCO in the photo-electrode part of DSCs, thus the cell structure is composed of a glass/dye sensitized TiO2 particle/ Ti-mesh layer/electrolyte/Pt sputtered counter electrode/ glass. The Ti-mesh electrode with high conductivity can collect electrons from the $TiO_2$ layer and allows the ionic diffusion of $I^-/I_3^-$ through the mesh hole. Thin Ti-mesh ($\sim40{\mu}m$ in thickness) electrode material is processed using rapid prototype method. The efficiency of prepared TCO-less DSCs sample is about 1.45 % ((ff: 0.5, Voc: 0.52V, Jsc: 5.55 $mA/cm^2$).

One of the most important factor to be considered for the analysis of sheet metal forming processes is the tool surface description for arbitrarily- shaped sheet metal parts. In the present study , finite element approach is used to describe the arbitrarily shaped tool surface. In finite element mesh approach, tool surfaces ar, described by finite elements. The finite elements mesh description of the tool surface, which is originally described by CAD data, needs much time and time-consuming graphic operation. The method, however, has been widely used to describe a complex tool surface. In the present study, the contact searching algorithm for the finite element mesh approach is developed based on cell strategy method and sheet surface normal scheme. For the verification purpose, a clover cup drawing, Baden-Baden oilpan problem and a trunk floor drawing were investigated. The computational results based on the finite element approach were compared with the results of available parametric patch approach and experiments.

A remeshing algorithm using tetrahedral elements has been developed, which is adapted to the mesh density map constructed by a posteriori error estimation. In the finite element analyses of metal forging processes, numerical error increases as deformation proceeds due to severe distortion of elements. In order to reduce the numerical error, the desired mesh sizes in each region of the workpiece are calculated by a posteriori error estimation and the density map is constructed. Piecewise density functions are then constructed with the radial basis function in order to interpolate the discrete data of the density map. The sample mesh is constructed based on the point insertion technique which is adapted to the density function and the mesh size is controlled by moving and deleting nodes to obtain optimal distribution according to the mesh density function and the quality optimization function as well. After finishing the redistribution process of nodes, a tetrahedral mesh is constructed with the redistributed nodes, which is adapted to the density map and resulting in good mesh quality. A goodness and adaptability of the constructed mesh is verified with a testing measure. The proposed remeshing technique is applied to the finite element analyses of forging processes.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect on the phantom for magnetic resonance imaging located nearby by partially shielding RF with a mesh made thinner than hair composed of copper, black metal, and polyester using metallic materials of titanium, which are commonly used for esophageal stents and implants in the body. Magnetic resonance images according to field of view (FOV) were analyzed in the Spin Echo T1 weighted images of TR 500 ms, TE 20 ms, NEX 1, and slice thickness 5mm using a Cardiac coil of 3T Achieva X-series. Aliasing artifact did not occur in FOV 304 mm × 304 mm, but it occurred in 250 mm × 250 mm and 170 mm × 170 mm. In FOV 170 mm × 170 mm, when a mesh was not used, the SNR was measured with 78.23, and when separated by standing a mesh in the middle, it was 215.05, and when completely shielded with a mesh, the SNR was 366.44. In addition, when completely shielded with a mesh, the aliasing artifact was also removed, and signal intensities on the left, middle and right of the image were also able to obtain homogeneous images compared to the previous two cases. In conclusion, if RF is partially shielded with a mesh, aliasing artifact can be removed, and magnetic resonance images with excellent image resolution and homogeneity can be obtained using a small FOV.

In the finite element analysis of forming process, objects are described with a finite number of elements and nodes and the approximated solutions can be obtained by the variational principle. One of the shortcomings of a finite element analysis is that the structure of mesh has become inefficient and unusable because discretization error increases as deformation proceeds due to severe distortion of elements. If the state of current mesh satisfies a certain remeshing criterion, analysis is stopped instantly and resumed with a reconstructed mesh. In the study, a new remeshing algorithm using tetrahedral elements has been developed, which is adapted to the desired mesh density. In order to reduce the discretization error, desired mesh sizes in each lesion of the workpiece are calculated using the Zinkiewicz and Zhu's a-posteriori error estimation scheme. The pre-constructed mesh is constructed based on the modified point insertion technique which is adapted to the density function. The object domain is divided into uniformly-sized sub-domains and the numbers of nodes in each sub-domain are redistributed, respectively. After finishing the redistribution process of nodes, a tetrahedral mesh is reconstructed with the redistributed nodes, which is adapted to the density map and resulting in good mesh quality. A goodness and adaptability of the constructed mesh is verified with a testing measure. The proposed remeshing technique is applied to the finite element analyses of forging processes.
Theoretical analysis for predicting the heat transport limitations of screen mesh wick and sintered wick heat pipes was performed. The heat pipe diameter was 8mm and water was used for working fluid. For the 250 mesh, each capillary pressures and heat transport limitations, thermal resistances were analyzed according to the operating temperatures, wick thicknesses and inclination angles, based on the effective capillary radius (r$\_$c/), porosity ($\varepsilon$) and permeability (K). The wick capillary limitation was increased as the operating temperature and the wick thickness were increased, and generally the sintered wick showed higher heat transport limitations than that of the screen wick. The thermal resistance of the screen wick was higher than that of the sintered wick and both thermal resistances were linearly increased as the wick thickness was increased.
A metal diaphragm compressor has been widely used for supplying a high pressures gas. This compressor mainly consists of gas oil space and metal diaphragm. Gas sucked in the gas space is compressed by an oscillating metal diaphragm existed between the gas and oil space. A non-return discharge and suction check-valve are components of the compressor that draw off the compressed oil and gas. Those components are self-actuated by differential pressures. Therefore, the rapid response and stable operating conditions are required. In the present study, to find out the dynamic behavior of the suction, discharge valve and diaphragm compressor, the unsteady flow field has been investigated numerically by using the unsteady two-way FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction) simulation method, $k-{\omega}$ turbulent model and mesh deformation.

A series of parametric study was performed for the investigation of the influence of several analysis parameters to the solution behavior in the elasti-plastic-static analysis of sheet metal forming. The parameters taken into the consideration in the present study are finite element mesh distribution and numerical integration scheme, The elstic-plastic-static analysis was performed for two cases : deflection by a point force bending by a punch Results obtained with different selections of the parameters were compared with each other experimental measurements and analytical solutions.
A new approach for the automatic elimination of free edges in the finite element model for the analysis of sheet metal forming processes is presented. In general, the raw finite element model constructed from an automatic mesh generator is not well suited for the direct use in the downstream forming analysis due to the many free edges which requires tedious time consuming interactive graphic operations of the users. In the present study, a general method for the automatic elimination of free edges is proposed by introducing a CAD/CAE hybrid method. In the method a trimmed parametric surface is generated to fill the holes which are orginated from the free edges by using the one step elastic finite element analysis. In addition, mesh generation algorithm is suggested which can be used in the general trimmed surface. In order to verify the validity of the proposed method, various examples including actual automobile sheet metal parts are given and discussed.
