Construction of Internet Public Library Asia (아시아 인터넷 공공 도서관(Internet Public Library Asia) 구축에 관한 연구)

  • Libraries, not only research libraries but also public libraries, have been fundamentally affected by the immense spread of the Internet and the World Wide Web. Many public libraries have their Web pages, through which they are providing their new and conventional services. There are also web sites which provide library-like services. This paper shows an experimental project named Internet Public Library Asia, which provides information in multiple languages of information resources published in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages. This paper firstly overviews how traditional public libraries have been affected by the Internet. Then, it describes a few aspects from the viewpoint of crucial library function on the Internet and also from the viewpoint of Asian resources and users. This paper secondly proposes a model to serve information about valuable resources published in multiple Asian languages, and then shows the metadata schema and a few software tools developed for IPL-Asia The name of IPL is borrowed from Internet Public Library based at University of Michigan, since it is, in part, a collaborative activity with the IPL in Michigan. The metadata schema is defined based both on Dublin Core and IEEE LOM and adapted for parallel description in the four languages, i. e. , Chinese, Japanese, Korean and English. The software tools provide functions to support collaboration among people engaged in development of metadata database and metadata editing. These tools have been developed based on the XML technologies.

Quality Evaluation of Automatically Generated Metadata Using ChatGPT: Focusing on Dublin Core for Korean Monographs (ChatGPT가 자동 생성한 더블린 코어 메타데이터의 품질 평가: 국내 도서를 대상으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Dublin Core metadata generated by ChatGPT using book covers, title pages, and colophons from a collection of books. To achieve this, we collected book covers, title pages, and colophons from 90 books and inputted them into ChatGPT to generate Dublin Core metadata. The performance was evaluated in terms of completeness and accuracy. The overall results showed a satisfactory level of completeness at 0.87 and accuracy at 0.71. Among the individual elements, Title, Creator, Publisher, Date, Identifier, Rights, and Language exhibited higher performance. Subject and Description elements showed relatively lower performance in terms of completeness and accuracy, but it confirmed the generation capability known as the inherent strength of ChatGPT. On the other hand, books in the sections of social sciences and technology of DDC showed slightly lower accuracy in the Contributor element. This was attributed to ChatGPT's attribution extraction errors, omissions in the original bibliographic description contents for metadata, and the language composition of the training data used by ChatGPT.

Change Detection and Management Scheme of OWL Documents (OWL 문서의 변경 탐지 및 관리 기법)

  • For accurate search on information resources, it is needed to manage gradual changes in ontology efficiently. Recently, because ontology is often written using OWL, techniques that can manage changes in OWL documents are required. To meet these needs, in this paper, we classify changeable elements to detect changes in OWL ontology and propose a storage schema that can manage the changes according to the characteristics of each element. And we suggest the possibility of improving performance of query processing using views that provide information about classes or properties in each ontology version. The proposed storage schema stores changes in metadata associated with each ontology version. In addition, it can manage metadata that must be added or deleted through reasoning when ontology changes. So, the proposed storage schema can support queries about history of changes in ontology and provide accurate and valid metadata that is suitable for user-selected ontology version.

  • Recently, an increasing in quantity of multimedia data have brought a new problem that expected data should be retrieved fast and exactly. The adequate representation for the multimedia data is the key element for efficient retrieval. For this reason, MPEG-7 standard was established for description of multimedia data. In this paper, we propose a new approach to metadata production. The user can decompose a given content into units and easily annotate each unit by adding basic Information such as time, place, etc. as well as classification information such as event, relationship, etc. according to the MPEG-7 standard. The objective is to build automatically a pure semantic description; the nodes are the events and the links are the graphs which describe the relationships among the events. Finally, we have implemented an annotation tool(SMAT) for semantic description based on proposed technique and assess some of the experiment results. In conclusion, we ran say that the proposod annotation tool is characterized by two important proprieties : reusability and extendibility.

  • R&D Personnel information is constructed locally based on the needs of each institute and therefore is distributed over different databases. It does not support inter operability which makes it difficult to access and update that leads to the problem of ineffective usage. In this study, we have categorized the lower level information that forms the domestic S&T Personnel and defined the relationship between each type of information to suggest a standard for the data elements that guarantee the access to specific information in order to support inter operability. We have analyzed the human resource information database of domestic and foreign research institutes for the data modeling. We have also made reference to the standard metadata and database of other types that can be linked with the human resource information in designing the data elements. ISO/IEC 11179, the international standard for the metadata registry(MDR), was adopted to apply the object, attribute and expression to be described to the name of the data element.

Method of Improving Personal Name Search in Academic Information Service

  • All academic information on the web or elsewhere has its creator, that is, a subject who has created the information. The subject can be an individual, a group, or an institution, and can be a nation depending on the nature of the relevant information. Most information is composed of a title, an author, and contents. An essay which is under the academic information category has metadata including a title, an author, keyword, abstract, data about publication, place of publication, ISSN, and the like. A patent has metadata including the title, an applicant, an inventor, an attorney, IPC, number of application, and claims of the invention. Most web-based academic information services enable users to search the information by processing the meta-information. An important element is to search information by using the author field which corresponds to a personal name. This study suggests a method of efficient indexing and using the adjacent operation result ranking algorithm to which phrase search-based boosting elements are applied, and thus improving the accuracy of the search results of personal names. It also describes a method for providing the results of searching co-authors and related researchers in searching personal names. This method can be effectively applied to providing accurate and additional search results in the academic information services.

  • Study on the class using XMI Meta model and XML MetaDats has significant difference from the method of Data creation which is widely used. Most of MXL System are focusing on the editor funcition, Database connection and Generation of Markup language. Unlikelly, however, this study has focused on the creation of Markup language of Class MetaData which are extracted from MXI data modedl. In addition to that, the attribute of unit element within the class and the relationship between the classes within the model were set to be given and expressed respectively. For the generation of Markup language, XML schema was used to declare the detail data type.

Performance Evaluation on Structure-based Retrievals of XML Documents (XML 문서의 구조기반 검색성능 평가)

  • In extension to our previous study, we develop metadata that specify elements' structural orders, to increase the efficiency level of XML document's retrieval process. Then, we proposed a structure-based indexing model. We expect the model to generate a more efficient retrieval process of horizontally and vertically related elements. To evaluate the model's performance level, we developed an experimental prototype and conducted an experiment on an XML corpus. On average, descendant, ancestor and sibling retrievals were approximately twelve percent faster than the ETID model. And retrievals specifying structural orders of particular element types were approximately twenty-five percent faster than the ETID model. In conclusion, metadata, such as Etype, Asso and Lsso, may make a meaningful contribution to retrieval processes that specify elements' order.

  • 멀티미디어 데이터에 대한 효율적인 검색을 지원하기 위해 제정된 MPEG7이나 TV-AnyTime 등의 표준들은 XML을 사용하여 Metadata를 효과적으로 표현할 수 방법을 제시하고 있다. 플랫폼에 독립적으로 사용가능하다는 XML의 강점에도 불구하고 Text 방식으로 데이터를 저장하기 때문에 보안에 취약할 수밖에 없으며, 대용량의 자료 처리에도 문제점을 드러낸다. 이를 보완하기 위하여 XML 문서를 RDBMS에 저장하는 방법들이 제안되고 있는데, 기존의 Model Mapping이나 Structure Mapping의 경우 노드 검색을 위해 Traversing을 할 경우 많은 조인이 필요하기 때문에 한정된 메모리와 낮은 처리능력을 갖춘 임베디드 멀티미디어 플랫폼에서는 비효율적일 수밖에 없다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG7 Metadata를 RDBMS에 저장하고, 이를 검색할 때, 조인의 횟수를 최소화할 수 있는 저장 모델을 제안하고 있다. 부모, 자식, 형제간의 노드를 효율적으로 검색할 수 있도록 path MetaSchema를 제안함으로써, 최소 1번의 검색으로 필요한 노드 정보들을 추출할 수 있도록 하였다. 그리고 Annotation 작성시에 XML의 Attribute와 Element로 삽입하였기에, 기존의 방법에서 Annotation을 분석하기 위해 필요했던 Annotation 파싱을 제거하고, SAX나 DOM을 사용할 수 있도록 제안함으로써, Annotation의 정보에 대한 접근이 효율적으로 개선되었다.

  • Called G-learning the domestic history of the serious game is only a mere 10-odd years or so but in recent years, due to the increased interest of users and industry for the serious game and serious games industry has been the continued growth of large quantity. Current the various types of serious games have been developed and the demand for serious games is increasing rapidly. Therefore that is becoming an important issue the problem of including a quality evaluation elements into serious game metadata to make the right choice of users for the high-quality serious games. In this paper, we recognize deeply the need for quality evaluation element development for serious game and we propose a method and a process for developing the quality evaluation elements of serious game. Also, we develop a draft of the quality evaluation elements for serious game using proposed method.
