  • This paper presents a fast 3D mesh generation method using a surface based method with a stitching algorithm. This method uses the surface based method since the volume based method that uses 3D Delaunay triangulation can hardly deal with a large scale of scanned points. To reduce the processing time, this method also uses a stitching algorithm: after dividing the whole point data into several sections and performing mesh generation on individual sections, the meshes from several sections are stitched into one mesh. Stitching method prevents the surface based method from increasing the processing time exponentially as the number of the points increases. This method works well with different types of scanned points: a scattered type points from a conventional 3D scanner and a cross-sectional type from CT or MRI.

  • The finite element mesh approach for tool surface description is applied effectively to analyze sheet metal stamping processes. To improve the mesh quality and the stability of the mesh generation process, a gybrid method based on the grid approach and the Delaunay triangulation is proposed in the present work. In the present study, a general method for the mathematical description of arbitrarily shaped tool surface is proposed by introducing the parametric surface approach. A polynomial function employed to describe the base parametric surface and the boundary curves are defined to describe arbitrary three-dimensional trimmed surfaces. To verify the validity of the proposed method, automatic mesh generation is carried out for some shosen complicated parts including actual automotive panel.

  • Three dimensional orthogonal grid generation is able to control effectively the grid spacing near the boundaries, but there are some difficulty to meshing complex geometry. The mesh complex geometry by orthogonal grid generation method must divide block of geometry It is required a careful skill, and long time. Its also difficulty to make unstructured mesh on complex geometry. Particularly, three dimensional geometry must have more time and effort. Recently, there have been growing interests in mesh generation of complex grometry, aslike an automobile headlamp, the heart. The method of easily meshing complex geometry is resarched to solve them. We suggest octree grid into one among these methods. As octrce grid is automaticaly adapted at the boundaries by determine the level operations to control the grid spacing near the boundaries are unnecessary. In this paper we showed throe dimensional mesh generation, and heat-flow analysis on the octree mesh.

  • To obtain more accurate result in the finite element analysis for electric machinery, it is important to have a mesh being of good quality. This paper describes a new technique of mesh generation for the finite element method. When the list of points defining the region of analysis is given, an appropriate distribution of interior points is generated first. Secondly the points are connected to from the trianlges. Finally the connectivity data are used to reposition the interior points using Laplacian smoothing and mesh relaxation technique. In this paper, a mesh searching technique of Lawson which modifies the start mesh is proposed in addition to the above three steps. This algorithm is simple and produces the meshes being of good quality with high speed in comparison with the existing one.

  • An excellent mesh construction is of Importance in yielding good results of finite element analysis. The new mesh generation algorithm, which offsets boundaries inward, was developed on the basis of a looping method. An user interface technique and automatic splitting lines which both divide a given domain into subdomains manually or automatically, were used. In addition, the separation method has advantages to prevent the large scale of element size and to control numbers of nodes and elements. This new mesh generation algorithm was proved in practice.

  • This paper describes an automatic finite element (FE) mesh generation for three-dimensional structures consisting of free-form surfaces. This mesh generation process consists of three subprocesses: (a) definition of geometric model, i.e. analysis model, (b) generation of nodes, and (c) generation of elements. One of commercial solid modelers is employed for three-dimensional solid structures. Node is generated if its distance from existing node points is similar to the node spacing function at the point. The node spacing function is well controlled by the fuzzy knowledge processing. The Delaunay method is introduced as a basic tool for element generation. Automatic generation of FE meshes for three-dimensional solid structures holds great benefits for analyses. Practical performances of the present system are demonstrated through several mesh generations for three-dimensional complex geometry.

  • An automatic quadrilateral mesh generator for large deformation finite element analysis such as metal forming simulation was developed. The NURBS interpolation method is used for modeling arbitrary 2-D free surface. This mesh generation technique is the modified paving algorithm, which is an advancing front technique with element-by-element resolving method for paving boundary intersection problem. The mesh density for higher analysis accuracy and less analysis time can be easily controlled with high-density points, maximum and minimum element size. A couple of application to large deformation finite element analysis is given as an example, which shows versatility and applicability of the proposed approach and the developed mesh generator for large deformation finite element analysis.

  • In part of mechanical design analysis, quadrilateral mesh is usually used because it provides less approximate errors than triangular mesh. Over the decades, Paving method has been considered as the most robust method among existing automatic quadrilateral element mesh generation methods. However, it also has some problems such as unpredictable node projection and relatively large element generation. In this study, the aforementioned problems are corrected by updating the Paving method. In so doing, a part of node projection process is modified by classifying nodes based on the interior angles. The closure check process is also modified by adding more nodes while generating elements. The result shows well shaped element distribution in the final mesh without any aforementioned problems.

  • The finite element method is one of the most widely used method of structural analysis that has wide applications in diverse fields of engineering and science. The method has been proven effective and reliable in many practical problems. One of the reasons for the methods' popularity is its ease of use, but still the user has to input the finite element mesh which affects the accuracy of the results. The knowledge required to form an effective mesh for a given problem is somewhat complex and for sometime there has been research effort to automate the generation of the mesh and this is called the adaptive mesh generation scheme. A good adaptive mesh scheme seemed to require an accurate assessment of error and generally this requires some additional computation. This paper looks into the possibility of generating adaptive meshes based on representative strain values in each finite element method. The proposed adaptive scheme does not require additional computations other that looking up the data values already computed as finite element analysis results and simple manipulations of these data. Two plane stress problems, a plate with a hole and a deep beam with a concentrated load at the end are considered to show the progress of the improved generation of adaptive meshes using the scheme.
