Purpose & Method: Based on a large amount of research concerning the recognition of local residents in an era of an increasing number of multi-cultural families, this study aimed to provide fundamental data for program development and policies. As well, the data was stratified based on understanding of multi-cultural society, recognition of multi-cultural families, and social and economic adaptability of multi-cultural families. Result: The available literature supports the view that an understanding of a multi-cultural society and recognition of multi-cultural families encourages an emphasis on maintaining ethnicity and respect for diverse cultures. Parental approval for friendships with members of multi-cultural families tends to be encouraged, although there is still resistance to marital ties with such families. The literature indicates that immigrant women participate in economic activities of their adopted locale and adapt to the new societal structure. A positive correlation between recognition and interests in social and economic adaptiveness was apparent. Conclusion: Findings of the study suggest that complement, development, and application of realistic programs and institutional policies are required to understand multi-cultural families and establish a multi-cultural society. Ongoing research will be valuable in resolving outstanding questions and clarifying political alternatives.

The purpose of this study is to offer suggestions to help immigrated youths of multicultural families become successful members of Korean society while preparing to enter schools or becoming involved in social activities. The study examined the following three issues using grounded theory: (1) the characteristics of cultural adaptation for immigrated youths of multi-cultural families; (2) their acculturation processes; and (3) their different patterns of acculturation experience. The process of acculturation involves (1) feeling timid, (2) feeling regretful and angry, (3) looking around and making an attempt, (4) feeling difficulty and feeling left out, (5) accepting reality and seeing Korea in a positive light. The core of acculturation among the immigrated youths of multicultural families is a limited living in an unfamiliar culture. Five acculturation patterns were found in the current study: (1) Someone who is actively striving for future dreams; (2) someone who adjusts himself/herself to circumstances without plans; (3) someone who passively makes an effort; (4) someone who accepts reality to continue education; and (5) someone who temporarily stays for financial reasons.
The purpose of the study is to integrate multi-cultural families with special needs and situations into family living and Korean social groups. Nowadays there has been an increase in the number of international marriages. According to these changes, there are a variety of social problems such as cultural conflicts, domestic violence, difficulty in communication, and bad relationships between family members because of misunderstandings. These social problems can be alleviated by a family integration education program for multi-cultural families. This program was developed in order to help immigrant women in their initial settlement and to provide them with information on mutual culture of family living. The contents of the program consist of how to live a harmonious, understanding and hopeful family life. The method of evaluation is to survey the immigrant women's self esteem and conduct an interview. The results of the evaluation are to promote a positive relationship between family members. Also the family agreed to promote favorable sentiments toward each other. The program also had meaningful consequences for the improvement of the immigrants' realistic expectation of marriage and conflict resolution skills. I am hopeful that more elaborate programs for multi-cultural families will be developed in order to maximize the effect with appropriate education and support systems.
The purpose of this study was to deepen our understanding about mothers' parenting stress in multi-cultural families. The study was conducted through in-depth interviews of 6 mothers from Mongolia, Philippines, and Japan who were living in Seoul. The findings of this study were as follows. First, mothers of multi-cultural families had difficulties of giving birth and child rearing, especially in the earliest years of their children. They were not fully adapted to the ways of living in Korea with little social support from family members and neighbors. Second, they were worried about their children's development, particularly language development due to their lack of understanding and fluency in Korean. Third, they were concerned about the cultural and racial discrimination against their children. They expected their children to be treated and respected equally like ordinary Korean children. Fourth, they were anxious about the fact that their children might not acquire the basic academic skills before they enter the elementary schools. Furthermore, they were worried that their children might not get as much educational support as they want. Fifth, despite the burden of mother's role in Korea, they wished to get a job to support their children for better education. In conclusion, the marriage immigrant mothers experienced the stress due to the lack of social support, the discrimination against immigrants, the possibilities of their children's delays in development, the disparity in the level of support for educating their children and the high expectations about their children's education in Korean society. Therefore it is necessary for the policy makers to consider more practical support system for the multi-cultural families in order for the marriage immigrant mothers to build up self-confidence in child rearing and educating their children.
Our society is moving from a monocultural society of a homogeneous nation to a multi-cultural society as a lot of foreigners are flowing into the country with the advent of globalization and with an effort to secure labor force for economic growth. So, multi-cultural families composed of members using different languages spring up everywhere, but the children in these multi-cultural families have difficulties in acquiring Korean language and are socially maladjusted because of the bilingual environment. The goal of this study is to help enhance the language capabilities and socialities of the children in the multi-cultural families through fine arts using artistic methods. The study method was to analyze the high-quality effects of the fine arts with the theoretical research materials and theses showing the real conditions of the multi-cultural families. And I proposed some ways to improve the linguistic abilities and socialities of the children in the multi-cultural families with the utilization of fine arts. As a result, Firstly, An active use of the bilingual instructors and artistic multimedia is educationally necessary to overcome language restrictions. Secondly, Various ways to utilize fine arts are necessary to improve learning abilities of other subjects. Thirdly, Artistic plays and experiential activities need to be largely applied to education to enhance the abilities of emotional control and socialities. Finally, Integrated culture and art education is essential not only for creativities and socialities but also for personalities for community life.

Multi-Cultural Family Support Act means that to lead a stable family life in Korea by improves the quality of life for members of multi-cultural families through the extensive support and ultimately it refers to a law designed to contribute to the integration between society and them. This Law was newly enacted as Law No. 8937 in March 21, 2008. And it can place a greater significance that had laid the foundation of the various support policies to lead a stable family life for members of multi-cultural families. In order to promote and comprehend marriage immigrants' culture, it is essential to understand the life of their families in their counties. For this study, data by a Philippine CFO(Commission on Filipino Overseas) has been analyzed, and the study researcher has attended an educational program run by the PDOS(Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar). Also, in order to understand the immigrants' families in their country, interviews have been done with some of the CFO employees, people arranged to immigrate to Korea through marriage, and female immigrants who are married. First, Filipino females have a positive attitude toward marriage with a foreign male. Most immigrants are from the rural parts of their country, and their families tend to rely on their daughters more than their sons. Therefore, they decide to marry Korean males and immigrate in order to support their families. However many of them do not have enough information about Korea. Second, Philippine's family system is of bilateral kinship, and traditionally, men and women are treated equally. Therefore, Filipino females tend to be well-educated, outgoing, and vibrant. Thus, they can create an active role in married life for themselves and support their family members. Lastly, based on videos and class materials on the topic of domestic violence that are used in the pre-educational programs for females planning to immigrate to Korea, the content of the program is to be revised.
