  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to understand a medical Gigong's view of the human body through the analysis of medical Gigong techniques, and to understand the concept and treatment principle of Whidam's Su-Gi therapy as the Angyo(按蹻) Method of Doin Angyo(導引 按蹻) Methods : Among Medical Gigong, Sojucheon practice, Moosim-Gigong Riding stance, Moosim-Gigong Doinbeop, Hwalinsimbang Doinbeop and Donguibogam Jang-Bu Doinbeop were selected to analyze the practice method. The medical Gigong's views of the human body are organized into overviews and pathological perspective. The main concepts and clinical techniques of Whidam's Su-Gi therapy were summarized. Discussion : Understanding the principles of medical Gigong is necessary in order to understand the Angyo method of Doin Angyo. The principle of medical Gigong is to circulate around Three-Danjeon(丹田) on the human belly and Three-Gwan(關) on the human back by practicing medical Gigong, and to strengthen the life force by activating the viscera function by communicating between the limbs and the body. If there are Jeokchwi(積聚) and deviation, Whidam's Su-Gi therapy eliminates the Jeokchwi and adjusts the deviation. Conclusions : 1. The Angyo method of Doin Angyo originates from the practice of training to establish Danjeon for the right body and the right flow of air. 2. The principles of medical Gigong obtained through the analysis of Sojucheon(小周天) practice, Moosim-Gigong Riding stance, Moosim-Gigong Doinbeop, Hwalinsimbang Doinbeop and Donguibogam Jang-Bu Doinbeop are the medical Gigong's view of the human body and pathological perspective. 3. Whidam's Su-Gi therapy, which focuses on the elimination of Jeokchwi and the adjustment of deviation based on the medical Gigong's view of the human body, is a manual therapy that inherits the principle of the Angyo Method of Doin Angyo.

  • Objective: This study is performed to evaluate the clinical effect of Gigong therapy by measuring YangDoRak on celiac sprue patients. Methods: Among the outpatients with celiac sprue who visited to Dagot Oriental Medical Clinic from 1 to 30, June 2003, we selected 31 persons. They were divided into two groups. One group was treated with acupuncture, cupping therapy added to Gigong therapy and the other was treated with the two formers. Before and after therapy, we measured YangDoRak from the two hands and two feet. We selected 15 persons without specific conditions as a control group. Results: Between the control and the Gigong therapy, there were significant difference of differences. Gigong therapy plays role in mitigation on celiac sprue. Conclusion: This Result indicated that Gigong therapy is to regulate and to do mitigation on celiac sprue.

The search terms used were 'Gi(氣, Qi)', 'Gigong(氣功, Qigong)', 'Doin(導引)', 'Training', 'Bioenergy', 'life nurturing' and random or Korean language terms related to Gigong. Several specialized journals were also manually searched for relevant articles. Result : Since the 1990's, Gigong papers in the Korean Literature is increased. Clinical research studies are among the most control design study. Research subjects are less patient than the general public. • Objective : The purpose of this study is to understand trends of "Gi-Gong" related studies from 1950 to 2016 and to help guide the research direction of Gigong study. Methods : The computerized Korean database was searched from 1950 to 2016. The search terms used were only Korean language terms such as '기, '기공', '도인', '명상', '생체에너지', '수련', '양생'. Results : 1. A total of 310,184 (155,565(1950~2007) + 13,705(2016) + 140,914(2008~2016)) studies were searched in this study. A total of 6,240 studies were finally selected as Gigong related studies. 2. In the results according to the Main Subject Categories(KCI;Korea Citation Index), the 'Humanities' was the largest with 2,686 studies and the 'Marine Agriculture, Fishery' was the least with 10 studies. 3. In the results according to the Middle Subject Categories(KCI;Korea Citation Index), the 'Philosophy' was the largest with 1,014(16.26%) studies. 4. A result of the Gigong Categories showed that the 'Philosophy of Gi' was the highest with 2,151(33.82%) not including duplication. 5. As a result of Research Method, the most frequently used method was 'Analysis Research' with 4,199(67.33%) studies. 6. In the author search, 'Kim Nak Pil' was searched 112 times and was the most.. 7. The journal that published the most relevant studies with Gigong was 『Conference Proceedings OF The Korean Society OF Jungshin Science』 (189), and the university that had the largest number of studies related to Gigong was 'Wonkwang University'(212). Conclusions : 1. The number of Gigong related studies had increased rapidly from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, and reached to a peak in 2007 and has been gradually increasing since 2008. 2. The three major academic fields of Gigong related studies are Thought Field, Korean Medicine Field, and Kinesic Field. 3. In the Gigong related studies, the best authority is 'Kim Nak-pil' and the most active academy is the 'Korean Society OF Jungshin Science'. 4. Although most categories of Gigong have been generally studied evenly, studies on External Gi Therapy and Taoist Sexual Practices are very insufficient.

  • Objective : This study is a report on treatment effect of Korean medical treatment to ALS(Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) patient. The purpose of this case study is to improvement of Korean medical treatment and evaluate prognosis and clinical course of ALS patients. Methods : The patient was treated by acupuncture, Su-Gi therapy, herbal medication, physical treatment. To determine the effects of Korean medical treatment, we evaluated every four days used by Korean version of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Functional Rating Scale-Revised (KALSFRS-R), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Severity Scale(ALSSS). Results : Before mental contraction caused by everyday life nursing management, symptoms such as lumbar pain, getting hoarse, lower limb powerless & spasticity, upper limbs powerless, neckache, tongue-tied etc. were improved after above treatment. K-ALSFRS-R and ALSSS scores were also increased till patient's mental contraction Conclusions : The Korean medical treatment is effective on local symptoms of ALS, and there is also functional improvement of ALS diagnosed by external examination. It is necessary to have more examination about ALS.
