  • The purpose of this article is to measure the level of insurance industry's social cognition based on the university students' survey questionnaire. For this, this study analyzes the cognition of students on the level of social reliability, the causes of low reliability, and the measures of enhancing the reliability level about insurance industry. For the analysis of survey questionnaire, partially ranked data analysis was employed. The results show that most students recognize that the reliability of insurance industry is lower than that of other financial industry such as banks and securities firms. The main reason for this low reliability is the lack of sales forces' specialty, the complexity of insurance products and contracts, and negative media release about insurance industry. To enhance the social reliability level of insurance, establishment of the future insurance image is essential, and that can be achieved through strengthening the insurance education and public relations and simplifying insurance products and contracts.

  • Facts, which constitute news, are as free as air. When they are transformed into news via labor and capital investment of a news organization, the news is deemed to have property values, and the media can claim exclusive rights over the news. The copyright law protects the originality of a work, the uniqueness of reporter's analysis, the selection of words, the arrangement of materials, and the emphasis given on particular points. The name of the game of copyright infringement lies in the infringement of the similarity of the method of expression, not the infringement of the subject. Even though news articles convey information by specifying factual elements of an event or accident, they still have some originality. The judgement that news articles lack of originality is inconsistent with the purpose of the copyright law. Therefore, the law should be amended to articulate that the unauthorized use of news articles without a proper citation shall be the subject of legal action, and courts should decide related cases accordingly.

While Public announcing frame, Interference and solutions frame, Moral hazard frame and Protests and strikes frame have been applied in reporting, Autonomy highlighted frame and Publicity highlighted frame which are fundamental to the existence of private schools hardly appeared. In particular, the adhesion between private schools and political power has been continuously pointed out to be a cause of raising problems, whereas articles with such perspectives were hard to find. • The main purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of corporate PR practitioners whose opinions were quoted as news sources and of the related articles in the economic section of the nation's three largest newspapers. The results revealed that the PR practitioners were mostly males with the job title of general manager or manager working for large electronics/IT or financing companies in Seoul and near metropolitan areas. In particular, such overwhelming features were more clearly salient in the articles related to conflicts. However, the phenomena seem to have been somewhat eased since 2002 when the newspapers came out with the specialized economic section. Analyzing the articles in terms of the channel of covering news, theme of news, and the existence of any conflict, we found statistically significant differences in the characteristics of PR practitioners. In addition, the comparison between each period before and after the emergence of the specialized economic section also showed statistically significant differences in the characteristics of the PR practitioners in many cases.
