Examining the Impact of Short Video Media Characteristics on Organizational Commitment and Mental Health among College Students (쇼츠 영상 매체의 특성 및 대학생들의 조직 몰입이 정신 건강에 미치는 영향)

  • In recent times, short videos have become highly popular among college students, serving as a vibrant platform for information sharing and self-expression, while fostering a unique culture. However, their excessive consumption can lead to negative effects like reduced concentration and information overload, necessitating a balanced approach and self-control. Our study examined the impact of different characteristics of short video media on college students' organizational commitment and mental health. The findings highlighted that attributes such as accessibility and immediacy positively influence different levels of engagement, and that organizational commitment significantly affects students' mental well-being. The research underscores the importance of judicious use of short video media to positively affect college students' mental health.

Structural Topic Modeling Analysis of Patient Safety Interest among Health Consumers in Social Media (소셜미디어 내 의료소비자의 환자안전 관심에 대한 구조적 토픽 모델링 분석)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate healthcare consumers' interest in patient safety on social media using structural topic modeling (STM) and to identify changes in interest over time. Methods: Analyzing 105,727 posts from Naver news comments, blogs, internet cafés, and Twitter between 2010 and 2022, this study deployed a Python script for data collection and preprocessing. STM analysis was conducted using R, with the documents' publication years serving as metadata to trace the evolution of discussions on patient safety. Results: The analysis identified a total of 13 distinct topics, organized into three primary communities: (1) "Demand for systemic improvement of medical accidents," underscoring the need for legal and regulatory reform to enhance accountability; (2) "Efforts of the government and organizations for safety management," highlighting proactive risk mitigation strategies; and (3) "Medical accidents exposed in the media," reflecting widespread concerns over medical negligence and its repercussions. These findings indicate pervasive concerns regarding medical accountability and transparency among healthcare consumers. Conclusion: The findings emphasize the importance of transparent healthcare policies and practices that openly address patient safety incidents. There is clear advocacy for policy reforms aimed at increasing the accountability and transparency of healthcare providers. Moreover, this study highlights the significance of educational and engagement initiatives involving healthcare consumers in fostering a culture of patient safety. Integrating consumer perspectives into patient safety strategies is crucial for developing a robust safety culture in healthcare.

Facebook Me Right: Needs-Based Segmentation of Facebook Brand Page Users

  • In the era of social media, marketers have struggled to understand and serve participants' diverse and multifaceted needs in a novel form of online brand community in the social-networking sites such as Facebook. Thus, this study identifies different groups of participants affiliated with Facebook brand pages based on their needs for brand connection. The need-based segments are validated by comparing results across foodservice and consumer goods. Results of cluster analysis reveal three distinct segments (i.e., residents, lurkers, and peepers) based on participants' functional, experiential, and incentive needs. Results of multivariate analysis of variance illustrate significant differences in relational tendencies for a brand of interest among these three groups. The three groups are profiled based on participants' engagement level. Findings of this study are expected to help marketers better understand the needs of diverse participants in their SNS-embedded brand community so they can develop tailored communication strategies for targeted groups.

Content Analysis of the Facebook Pages of Selected Academic Libraries in Vietnam

  • This study explores Facebook use in Vietnamese academic libraries by analysing libraries' posts on their Facebook pages and library users' interaction with those posts. A total of 260 posts on four academic libraries' Facebook pages were examined using the content analysis method. The findings reveal that Facebook was mainly used to encourage reading and to transmit announcements. Most of the academic libraries published one post a week. The photo was the most frequent media type of libraries' posts and gained a higher level of interaction than other posts. According to the research results, the user engagement was low, and the user interaction with libraries' posts generally was in the form of reaction. The findings can help better understand Facebook use in Vietnamese academic libraries and may assist libraries in creating a plan for using Facebook more effectively.

  • Many publishing companies go to storytelling marketing through facebook in these days. Because storytelling marketing through facebook is thought for publishing company as useful marketing method in accordance with the increase of social media user. Thus, this study classified storytelling marketing type by episode, experience, anniversary, information and also analyzed the difference of cognitive reaction, emotional reaction and variables which effect to purchase intention according to each storytelling marketing type. As the results, anniversary type and information type got more positive reaction from responses rather than episode type and experience type with respect to likability, reliability, informativeness, engagement. Also engagement, likability, informativeness are revealed as major variables which effect to purchase intention of each storytelling type. Thus, storytelling marketing of publishing company through facebook need to focus on anniversary type and information type. And it is important to combine naturally the information regarding to book that publishing company want to sell with the fun, pleasure factors that story can give.

  • As non-face-to-face classes have been adopted as an essential class method in universities after COVID-19, interest in ways to encourage student engagement is increasing. Class engagement is a prerequisite for improving the quality of education, so it is inevitably an even more important requirement in non-face-to-face classes. Therefore, this study examined the efforts and concerns based on the teaching experiences of three professors of D University, which have been operated by mixing non-face-to-face or non-face-to-face classes since 2020. As a result, both professors and students went through trial and error in the early stages of non-face-to-face classes, but over time, it was confirmed that students not only actively expressed their opinions but also voluntarily expanded the class activity. This study is meaningful in that it found the possibility that professors-led classes can develop into learner-participating classes through appropriate harmony between face-to-face and non-face-to-face and the use of various media. Data were collected through an autobiographical method.

  • The present work aimed to present the development of 'Funt', the augmented reality-based digital app as an educational tool for foreign language learning. Our work further evaluated the learning efficacy of the tool by the assessment of the three dependent measures including learning motivation, learning satisfaction, and learning involvement. With a learning app of 'Funt', students can use AR app to access recognition-based or location-based experiences such that any objects, artifacts, or media appear to be in the app. Students are then able to interact with the digital content by manipulating it to learn more about it. Students's engagement should also increase when they create their own experience in AR to demonstrate their understanding of a particular concept or words. Learning effects were evaluated on survey data collected from a hundred respondents aging six to nine years. One-group design for pre-test and post-test was utilized to examine the differences of learning efficacy by comparing the non-'Funt' group and the Funt group scores. A pairwise t-Test was performed for pairwise comparisons between two learning groups. The results indicate that the 'Funt' group scored significantly higher than the non-'Funt' group in the measures of learning motivation, learning satisfaction, and learning involvement. Overall, our results suggest that 'Funt' attracted the students' attention, provided them with a fun context to learn English vocabulary, and develop positive motivation and satisfaction towards vocabulary learning through AR technology.

Case Study on Application of Social Learning in Workforce Education (소셜러닝을 적용한 직업교육 성과분석 사례연구)

  • Social learning is a form to support learners' active engagement and participation in learning with other learners and instructors by using social media. The concept of social learning should be considered beyond the simple use of social media for learning or education. This study aims to apply the understanding of social learning based on the theoretical background of social theories of learning in designing and developing a program for workforce education. As a pilot test, the newly developed social learning program was implemented to 302 employees with the title of 'Innovative Display Strategy for POP". 138 employees successfully completed the social learning course that focuses on delivering contents in time-line based platform, supporting interactions among students, and working effectively through small smart devices in their workplace. The results were derived from three kinds of data-source: learner's log data, their final evaluation score, and the survey to measure the satisfaction about social learning. Finally the implications for social learning were discussed in terms of the program revision and directions for future application.

A Study of Teens' Social Media Engagement: Focusing on the Comments for YouTube Beauty Videos (청소년의 소셜 미디어 참여에 관한 연구 - 유튜브 메이크업 영상의 댓글 창을 중심으로 -)

  • This study analyzed YouTube beauty videos that focus on makeup for teens, based on the assumption that the main viewers of the videos are teens. Through looking at the interaction between beauty information providers and receivers, communication among information receivers, and the way people participate in comment thread, the study examined how teens engage in social media. Many teens who posted comments on YouTube beauty videos praised and envied the beauty of beauty gurus, and tried to connect with them. The comment thread shows that teens answered to each other's questions on makeup tips, shared thoughts and experiences on issues around teen wearing makeup, which helped them build a sense of community, and broaden their views on the way of life. Also observed was power dynamics among youth, such as lecturing or verbal abuse against children and pre-teens by older teens.

A Study on the 'Principle-Policy Puzzle' in the Public Opinion of the 'Engagement Policy' (김대중 정부의 통일정책에 대한 여론의 이중성: 원칙과 정책에 대한 의견의 괴리)

  • This study explores the process within which whereas the majority of Korean people agree on the principle of the unification policy, the opinions about the concrete policy alternatives related to the principle do not converge. To account for this phenomenon, a.k.a. 'the principle-policy puzzle in public opinion', this study constructs and tests a covariance structural model with the explanatory variables such as political knowledge, political ideology, authoritarian personality, social distance, and the evaluation of the president. In addition, the interaction effects of the interpretive frames regarding the unification policy and political knowledge along with the main effects of socio-demographic variables are tested to explain the degree to which people show the gap between the agreements on the unification principle and policy alternatives. A sample of 600 Seoul people are recruited to provide the data for the analysis of structural equation modeling. Ie was found that the proposed model receives empirical supports from the data. In particular, political knowledge and authoritarian personality play key roles in accounting for the complex process of public opinion in the 'principle-policy puzzle'. The findings were discussed in terms of the representations of the Engagement policy in the mass media and the public perception of them.
