Recent studies focus on how open innovation strategies affect innovation in enterprises, but lack research related to the forms of openness. There is also a paradox that an entity should open up for open innovation but also protect its innovation. In this regard, the need for research on innovation protection has expanded. Therefore, this study looked at the effect of the form of openness on product innovation, and explored how the relationship between the form of openness and product innovation depends on the appropriation mechanisms. This study used data from the Korean Innovation Survey(KIS), which was developed and distributed by the OECD. The main findings of this study are summarized as follows. First, the forms of openness has a positive effect on product innovation. Specifically, external search has had a positive impact on exploitative innovation, and collaboration has shown to have a positive impact on exploratory innovation. Second, the appropriation mechanisms has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between the forms of openness and product innovation. Specifically, it was shown that formal appropriation mechanisms had a positive effect on the relationship between external search and product innovation, and that informal appropriation mechanisms had a positive effect on the relationship between collaboration and exploratory innovation. This study is expected to contribute to: First, this study has divided the forms of openness into external search and collaboration, unlike the existing method, and thus identified the type of product innovation and the appropriation mechanisms and forms of openness by identifying the impact on product innovation. Second, depending on the characteristics of the appropriation mechanisms, it was identified that it had the moderating effect on the forms of openness and the relationship of product innovation, so that depending on the type of openness and the type of product innovation, the type of appropriation mechanisms more suitable was identified.
The last two decades witnessed significant advances in the efforts of immune-parasitologists to elucidate the nature and role of the host mucosal defence mechanisms against intestinal nematode parasites. Aided by recent advances in basic immunology and biotechnology with the concomitant development of well defined laboratory models of infection, immunoparasitologists have more precisely analyzed and defined the different immune effector mechanisms during the infection; resulting in great improvement in our current knowledge and understanding of protective immunity against gastrointestinal (GI) nematode parasites. Much of this current understanding comes from experimental studies in laboratory rodents, which have been used as models of livestock and human GI nematode infections. These rodent studies, which have concentrated on Heligmosomoides polygyrus, Nippostrongylus brasiliensis, Strongyloides ratti/5. venezuelensis. Trichinella spiralis and trichuris muris infections in mice and rats, have helped in defining the types of T cell responses that regulate effector mechanisms and the effector mechanisms responsible for worm expulsion. In addition, these studies bear indications that traditionally accepted mechanisms of resistance such as eosinophilia and IgE responses may not play as important roles in protection as were previously conceived. In this review, we shall, from these rodent studies, attempt an overview of the mucosal and other effector responses against intestinal nematode parasites beginning with the indices of immune protection as a model of the protective immune responses that may occur in animals and man.
ATM is the switching and multiplexing technology chosen by the ITU-T for the operation of B-lSDN. Basically, ATM technology is designed to combine the reliability of circuit switching with the efficiency and flexibility of packet switching technology. For servicing QoS in IPOA(IP over ATM) when the larger effort is given, it will be the good method that the original QoS benefits having ATM switching have in ATM layer underlying layer. The IETF has recently proposed Differentiated Services framework for provision of QoS. In this paper we analyse performance of two Diffserv mechanism. Threshold Dropping and Priority Scheduling. Threshold Dropping and Priority Scheduling can be regarded as basic mechanisms from which the other mechanisms have been derived. Hence comparative performance of these two mechanisms in providing required QoS is an important issue. In this Paper we carry out a performance comparison of the TD and PS mechanisms with the aim of providing the same level of packet loss to the preferred flow. Our comparison of the TD and PS allows us to determine resultant packet loss for the non-preferred flows as a function of various parameters of the two mechanisms.
The proxy mechanism widely used in WWW systems offers low-delay data delivery by means of "proxy server". By applying the proxy mechanisms to the video streaming system, we expect that high-quality and low-delay video distribution can be accomplished without introducing extra load on the system. In addition, it is effective to adapt the quality of cached video data appropriately in the proxy if user requests are diverse due to heterogeneity in terms of the available bandwidth, end-system performance, and user′s preferences on the perceived video quality. We have proposed proxy caching mechanisms to accomplish the high-quality and highly-interactive video streaming services. In our proposed system, a video stream is divided into blocks for efficient use of the cache buffer. The proxy server is assumed to be able to adjust the quality of a cached or retrieved video block to the request through video filters. In this paper, to verify the practicality of our mechanisms, we implemented them on a real system and conducted experiments. Through evaluations from several performance aspects, it was shown that our proposed mechanisms can provide users with a low-latency and high-quality video streaming service in a heterogeneous environment.
Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has received widespread attention in the field of civil engineering because of its superior durability and corrosion resistance. This article presents the damage mechanisms of a novelty composite called carbon nanofiber modified flax fiber polymer (CNF-modified FFRP). The ability of acoustic emission (AE) to detect damage evolution for different configurations of specimens under uniaxial tension was examined, and some useful AE characteristic parameters were obtained. Test results shows that the mechanical properties of modified composites are associated with the CNF content and the evenness of CNF dispersed in the epoxy matrix. Various damage mechanisms was established by means of scanning electron microscope images. The fuzzy c-means clustering were proposed to classify AE events into groups representing different generation mechanisms. The classifiers are constructed using the traditional AE features -- six parameters from each burst. Amplitude and peak-frequency were selected as the best cluster-definition features from these AE parameters. After comprehensive comparison, a correlation between these AE events classes and the damage mechanisms observed was proposed.

This paper deals with model reference adaptive system (MRAS) speed estimators based on a secondary flux for linear induction motors (LIMs). The operation of these estimators significantly depends on an adaptation mechanism. Fixed-gain PI controller is the most common adaptation mechanism that may fail to estimate the speed correctly in different conditions, such as variation in machine parameters and noisy environment. Two adaptation mechanisms are proposed to improve LIM drive system performance, particularly at very low speed. The first adaptation mechanism is based on fuzzy theory, and the second is obtained from an LIM mechanical model. Compared with a conventional PI controller, the proposed adaptation mechanisms have low sensitivity to both variations of machine parameters and noise. The optimum parameters of adaptation mechanisms are tuned using an offline method through chaotic optimization algorithm (COA) because no design criterion is given to provide these values. The efficiency of MRAS speed estimator is validated by both numerical simulation and real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) implementations. Results indicate that the proposed adaptation mechanisms improve performance of MRAS speed estimator.

In this paper, we propose quality of service mechanisms for flow-based routers which have to handle several million flows at wire speed in high-speed networks. Traffic management mechanisms are proposed for guaranteed traffic and non-guaranteed traffic separately, and then the effective harmonization of the two mechanisms is introduced for real networks in which both traffic types are mixed together. A simple non-work-conserving fair queuing algorithm is proposed for guaranteed traffic, and an adaptive flow-based random early drop algorithm is proposed for non-guaranteed traffic. Based on that basic architecture, we propose a dynamic traffic identification method to dynamically prioritize traffic according to the traffic characteristics of applications. In a high-speed router system, the dynamic traffic identification method could be a good alternative to deep packet inspection, which requires handling of the IP packet header and payload. Through numerical analysis, simulation, and a real system experiment, we demonstrate the performance of the proposed mechanisms.
This study aimed to investigate the role of domain-specific causal mechanism information and domain-general conditional probability in young children's causal reasoning on psychology and biology. Participants were 121 3-year-olds and 121 4-year-olds recruited from seven childcare centers in Seoul, Kyonggi Province, and Busan. After participants watched moving pictures on psychological and biological phenomena, they were asked to choose appropriate cause and justify their choices. Results of this study were as follows: First, young children made different inferences according to domain-specific causal mechanisms. Second, the developmental level of causal mechanisms has a gap between psychology and biology, and biological knowledge was proved to be separate from psychological knowledge during the preschool period. Third, young children's causal reasoning was different depending on the interaction effect of domain-specific mechanisms and domain-general conditional probability: children could make more inferences based on domain-specific causal mechanisms if conditional probability between domain-appropriate cause and effect was evident. To conclude, it can be inferred that the role of domain-specific causal mechanisms and domain-general conditional probability is not competitive but complementary in young children's causal reasoning.

In recent years, the need for multi-stage gear drives, which highly reduce output speed, has been increased. However, the design of multi-stage gear drives have been carried out by a limited number of experts. The consideration for the direction of input and output axes also makes their design very difficult. The purpose of this study is to develop an algorithm for automatically generating complex multi-stage gear drives and to implement a design supporting system for multi-stage gear drives. There are 4 stages in the proposed algorithm, and major design parameters,.such as the direction of input and output axes, reduction ratio, etc. are set up in the first stage. In the second stage, all mechanisms are generated, and various rules are applied to select feasible mechanisms. In the third stage, the gear ratio of each stage is divided from total gear ratio. Next, the specifications of gears for feasible mechanisms are calculated and their bending strength and surface durability are estimated. In the forth stage, appraised indexes are calculated and provided to support the estimation of the generated gear drives.

The burning velocities of conventional and oxygen-enriched methane flame in various equivalence ratio were determined by experiments. The validity of existing reaction mechanisms was examined in oxygen-enriched flame on the basis of the experiment results. Modified reaction mechanism is suggested, which was able to predict burning velocity of oxygen enriched flame as well as methane-air flame. Complementary study on reaction mechanisms shows the following results : Present experiment data were found to be more reliable in comparison with existing ones in a oxygen-enrichment condition. It was found that some modification in existing reaction mechanisms is necessary, since discrepancy between measurements and predictions is increasing with oxygen enrichment ratio. The sensitivity analysis was performed to discriminate the dominantly affecting reactions on the burning velocity in various oxygen enrichment and equivalence ratio. A modified GRI 3.0 reaction mechanism based on our experiment results was suggested, in which reaction rate coefficients of (R38) H+O$_2$<=>O+OH in GRI 3.0 reaction mechanisms were corrected based on sensitivity analysis results. This mechanism showed a good agreement in predicting the burning velocity and number density of NO in oxygen-enriched flame and would provide proper reaction information of oxygen-enriched flame at this stage.
