홀확장 잔류응력 예측을 위한 유한요소해석 (The Finite Element Analysis for Prediction of Residual Stresses Induced by Cold Expansion)

  • Cold expansion of fastener holes is a mechanical process widely used in the aerospace industry. This treatment leads to an improvement of fatigue behavior due to the developed compressive residual stresses on the hole surface. The residual stress profile depends on the parameters of cold expansion, which are, expanding rate, inserting direction of mandrel, material properties etc. and the method to confirm this profile is only measurement by X-ray diffractometer. Despite its importance to aerospace industries, little attention has been devoted to the accurate modelling of the process. In this paper, Two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element simulations have been conducted for the cold expansion in an aluminium plate in order to predict the magnitude and distribution of the residual stress and plastic deformation. Maximum compressive residual stress could be increase about 7 percent using the 2-step cold expansion method.

카메라와 슬릿 레이저를 이용한 나사 3D 형상 측정 (Measurement of 3D Shape of Fastener using Camera and Slit Laser)

  • The measurement of 3D shape is important in inspecting the quality of product. In this paper, we present a 3D shape measurement system of fastener using a camera and a slit laser. Calibration structure with slits is used in the extrinsic calibration of the camera and laser. The pose of the camera and laser is computed under the same world coordinate system in the calibration structure. Reflection of laser light on the metal surface causes many difficulties in the robust detection of them on image. We overcome this difficulty by using color and dynamic programming. Motor stage is used to rotate the fastener to recover the whole 3D shape of the surface of it.

  • In general, the purpose of packaging fasteners is a series of management activities to maintain the condition at the time of production until they get delivered to the end user. An automatic packing system for fasteners is consisted of bucket conveyor, slide feeder, vision inspection system, box-magazine conveyor system and automatic packing machine. Also, the automatic packing machine is consisted of six modules including charging device, clamping/opening device, sealing/cutting device, feeding/air-shower device, supplying/adjusting device and device frame, etc. In this paper, we proposed an automatic packing mechanism of the one station concept for packing work of fastener objects where the continuous batch work is performed in a finite space. The proposed one-station packing mechanism has been optimized through mechanical, dynamical, structural and fluid analyses. And it had been manufactured as the prototype of automatic packing machine. The field test for validation of performance was performed directly at the production line of bolt and screw. In the field test, this packing machine showed an efficiency of about 4.5 times the manual operation. It also showed 30% reduction in the consumption of packing materials compared to the manual operation. This automatic packing machine for fastener objects will be commercialized soon.

인접 홀의 영향을 받는 홀 확장 잔류응력의 유한요소해석 (Finite Element Analysis of the Residual Stress by Cold Expansion Method under the Influence of Adjacent Holes)

  • 홀 확장법은 홀 주위에 압축 잔류응력층을 생성시킴으로서 균열 발생을 지연시키는 방법으로 항공산업 분야에서 널리 사용되고 있다. 홀 확장 잔류응력의 분포는 홀 확장률, 맨드럴 삽입방향, 재료 물성치 등 여러 가지 홀 확장 피라미터에 따라 달라진다. 홀 확장 잔류응력층의 정확한 파악은 항공산업의 실제 설계에 있어서 매우 중요함에도 불구하고 이에 대한 연구는 상대적으로 부족하였다. 본 연구에서는 유한요소해석을 통하여 두 개의 인전한 홀에 홀 확장법을 적용하는 경우 대한 잔류응력 분포를 구하였다. 연구 결과 두개 홀에 동시에 홀 확장을 하는 경우가 순차적으로 홀 확장으로 하는 경우보다 더 유리한 잔류응력 분포를 얻을 수 있었다.

집성재 소시험편의 전단강도에 의한 핀접합부의 모멘트 저항성능 예측 (Estimation of Moment Resisting Property for Pin Connection Using Shear Strength of Small Glulam Specimens)

  • 집성재의 구조부재로서의 이용에 있어서는 접합철물(connector)과 파스너(fastener)에 의한 접합이 대부분을 차지하고 있다. 이들 접합부의 역학적 거동은 파스너의 지압과 부재의 전단현상으로 설명할 수 있다. 집성재 내의 층재 구성상태에 따른 전단성능, 2면전단 핀접합부의 인발에 의한 전단성능, 실대 기둥-보 2면전단 핀접합부의 모멘트 저항성능을 검토하였다. 집성접착된 부위의 경우, 두 층재간의 보완작용에 의해 밀도 및 전단강도에 있어서도 적층효과를 발휘하였다. 소시험편의 전단강도를 이용한 핀접합부의 2면전단강도와 모멘트 저항성능을 예측할 경우 다소의 보정이 필요할 것으로 판단되었다. 기둥-보 접합부의 모멘트저항성능 예측은 소시험편 전단강도의 10%를 저감하여 이용하면 안전하게 예측가능한 것으로 판명되었다.

  • Since fastener bolt for airplane require high specific strength and corrosion resistance, Ti-6Al-4V alloy is widely used. However, the Ti-6Al-4V bolt is generally manufactured by cutting and rolling because of their poor workability. The aim of present work is to develop hot forming technology for high strength Ti-6Al-4V. Various heat-treatments were applied to specimen in order to increase hot-workability and prevent galling with die Multiple forging were simulated with FE code to determine optimum process parameters including specimen temperature, strain rate, local strain, and thermal shrinkage. Forged samples were heat-treated again to increase their mechanical properties.

  • Recently, cold expansion of fastener holes is commonly used in the aerospace industry to increase the fatigue endurance of airframes. Cold expansion process is used as the retardation of crack initiation in the hole. This treatment leads to an improvement of fatigue behavior due to the compressive residual stresses developed on the hole surface. The residual stress profile depends on the cold expansion ratio. In the present paper, it is shown that residual stress is redistributed due to the application of cold expansion process for CT specimen. It is further shown that residual stress increases in proportion to cold expansion ratio. It is thought that crack growth rate increases as cold expansion ratio.

  • This paper describes an experimental study on fatigue life extension by using cold working process in fastener hole of aircraft structure. Cold working process was applied for A12024-7351 specimens by considering the effect of edge margin on fatigue life. It is generally recognized that cold working process offers a protective zone around fastener hole of aluminum aircraft structure due to the residual compressive stresses which lead to retardation of crack growth. Thus this process provides the beneficial effect of increasing the fatigue life of the component. there by decreasing maintenance costs. It has also been successfully incorporated into damage tolerance and structural integrity programs. Cold working specimens were tested at constant amplitude peak cyclic stresses. Fatigue life of cold working specimen compared with that of specimen fabricated with base material. The increase of fatigue life for cold working specimen is discussed by both considering the effect of residual compressive stresses measured by X-ray diffraction technique and quantitative effect of edge margin.

인접홀에서 홀확장법 적용시, 유한요소법을 이용한 잔류응력해석 (Using the Finite Element Method, 3 Dimensional FE Analysis of Residual Stress by Cold Expansion Method in the Plate Baying Adjacent Holes)

  • In the aerospace industry, Cold expansion has been used the most important method that is retarded of crack initiation from fastener hole surface. Cold expansion method(CEM) is that a oversized tapered mandrel goes through the hole in order to develop a compressive residual stress as the passing of the mandrel around the hole. Therefore, because of characteristic of mandrel inserting, Residual Stress Distributions (RSD) are differently generated form Entry, Mid and Exit position of the plate. Also, it is respected that RSD are changed as distances between holes. In this paper, It is performed a FE analysis of RSD by CEM and it is respectively shown RSD in the Entry, Mid and Exit position. It is compared residual stress results form the cold expansion in these two cases: the concurrent CEM and the sequential CEM. From this research, it has been found that compressive residual stress of Entry position is lower than other positions. Also, the concurrent CE of adjacent holes leads to much higher compressive residual stress than the sequential CE. In addition, in the sequential CE case, a compressive RSD of 1 step's hole around is lower than compressive RSD of 2 step's hole around.
