  • In this study, a method for evaluating the performance of speed measurements was developed to assess the qualities of a vehicle detector. The evaluation method considers measurement errors that are reflected in a reference speed. For this, the concept of uncertainty in measurement was applied to the development method. Other factors such as precedent study, statistical processing techniques, and speed measurement performance method of traffic enforcement equipment and vehicle detection systems were also reviewed. Through this process, the problems of the existing evaluation methods were derived and developed for the new performance evaluation method. Vehicle detectors that are installed in the field were evaluated using the traditional assessment methods and the developed method. As a result, for traditional assessment methods, it was found that evaluation criteria are acceptable, while developed method's criteria are not acceptable. This means that traditional assessment methods do not sufficiently consider errors in measurement, so it has potential to over-estimate for performance of evaluation equipment. On the other hand, it was represented that the developed method should include variable factor such as errors in measurement and more precise compared to traditional assessment methods.

  • There is currently a focus on usability of interactive computer software. Previous research in software ergonomics has indicated the importance of evaluating the usability of software user interfaces. Software developers, interface designers or human foctors engineers often confront the task of comparative evaluation among systems, versions or interface designs. This study presents a structured model for comparative evaluation of user interface designs using usability criteria and measures. The proposed model consists of twomain phases : the prescreening phase ad the evaluation phase. The first phase involves expert judgment-based approach with qualitative criteria. The prescreening phase uses absolute measurement analytic hierarchy process to filter possible altermative interfaces to a reasonable subset. The second phase involves user-based approach such as usability testing, with quantitative criteria. The objective of the evaluation phase is to evaluate a subset of altermatives using objective measures. A set of criteria and measures for evaluating the usability of computer software designs is presented. The proposed model provides practitioners with a structured approach to select the best interface based on usability criteria and measures.

  • Tooth morphology is the most important scientific aspect of dental medicine in regards to the treatment and study of teeth attrition relating to the absence of teeth due to dental caries or the occlusion of teeth due to external force. Most of the studies have focused on the external morphology in cutting teeth regardless of sex and age. However, the importance of internal morphology in the treatment of damaged teeth has been increased. Therefore, this study established the measurement criteria for the morphology of the mandibular first premolar which had never been presented, in order to investigate the external and internal morphologies of mandibular first premolars, and introduced a non-destructive method such as a microcomputed tomogrphy. Mandibular first premolars in superlative state were taken from molars of middle aged males and females and used as specimens for this study. Criteria relating to the internal and external morphology measurements were established to quantify the length of the teeth in identical state. Two dimensional image data for the selected mandibular first premolar were obtained by taking the image of each O.022mm section, which is perpendicular to the vertical direction using the microcomputed tomography. The Vworks program was applied to measure the length of each morphological part according to the set measurement criteria. These measured data were compared with the data presented by G. V. Black and the internal and external morphologies of the teeth of middle aged Koreans were also compared according to gender. In addition, the methodology for measurement of the mandibular first premolar was presented and according to this, the standardized mandibular first premolars of middle aged Korean males and females were made by using a rapid prototyping system.

  • Performance measurement is increasingly becoming a vital issue for promoting quality management within an organization. This research proposes a new performance measurement approach, called the Hierarchically Associated Performance Measurement, for the organizations which emphasize long term quality thrust through a balanced interface between the quality efforts of various units. The proposed approach is unique in that it considers relationships between internal quality activities and national quality award criteria and that it identifies and utilizes the quality responsibilities of functional units in order to encompass organizational roles in the evaluation process. The approach is illustrated via a numerical evaluation of a fictitious organization.

  • This paper studies on physical strength measurement utilized for selecting military sportsmen. In order to estimate physical potential capability of a volunteer for a sportsmen, scores of physical strength factors are used and a regression model is developed. And then the results of this model and current physical strength measurement are compared. This paper shows that the model developed here is more effective than current measurement, since measurable physical strength factors are reduced and physical strength factors are quantified by comparing each other.

  • The purpose of this study is to critically review the previous research on the measurement of service quality, and to present future research directions on hotel service quality measurement as follows: 1. As Carman(1990) shows in his study, items of quality measurement should be developed to be fit for the measurement of hotel service quality. 2. To evaluate the service quality of a hotel, measuring three divisions(Room, F&B and Others) separately, then combining them would be the best model. 3. Researches to identify the various dimensions of hotel service quality are needed. 4. In measuring hotel service quality, guests should be classified according to various criteria. 5. To measure the hotel service quality, SERVPERF model might be more a, pp.opriate due to the small number of items to be answered. 6. In hotel industry, researches to identify causal pths between customer satisfaction and service quality are needed. 7. We need to develop alternative scales for the measurement of hotel service quality.

  • This study focuses on identifying and prioritizing the broader performance measures for the service supply chains by taking the case of Majan Electricity Company, Sohar, in the Sultanate of Oman. For an examination of the uniformity of ultimate objectives and the priorities therein, two strata of respondents with a total of fourteen respondents were approached for their valuable insights. Suitable structured instruments were personally administered to elicit the insightful and worthy responses. The two multi-criteria decision-making techniques, namely, the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process and the Best-Worst Method were used to reach a meaningful prioritization of the identified and refined broader performance measurement dimensions. The results show that there exists a minor gap between the two respondents' groups in terms of their prioritizations. The major finding points to the difference in terms of the topmost priorities as revealed by the two set of respondents. For one group of respondents, the customer satisfaction matters the most, whereas for the other group, it is the overall profitability that matters the most. This gap against the utopian state assists in concluding that there is a requirement to reorient the employees so as to have a shared and common understanding of the organizational priorities.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the causal relationship among the MBNQA health care criteria in Korean University Hospitals. The survey instrument consists of 109 questions based on the seven MBNQA health care criteria: '1.Leadership', '2.Strategic Planning', '3.Focus on Patients Other Customers. Markets', '4.Measurement Analysis Knowledge Management', '5.Human Resource Focus', '6.Process Management', and '7.Results'. Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) is used to analyze the path coefficients among the seven categories. The results indicate that fourteen hypotheses are statistically significant, among eighteen hypotheses. Conclusively, this study found that Leadership drives systems that create Results through Foundation and Direction.

  • Three-point bending specimens have been used to investigate the mixed mode fracture of green sandstone. Dimensionless stress intensity factors and T-stresses were calculated first by using the finite element method for various crack lengths, crack angles and span to length ratios. It is shown that three-point bending specimens can provide the whole range of mode mixities from pure mode I to pure mode II, provided suitable values are chosen for the crack angle and span to length ratio. The fracture test results were also used to compare with predictions of different criteria. These comparisons show that modified criteria including the influence of the T-stress agree better with experiment than the conventional criteria but that no one criterion matches perfectly the test results.
