  • The constant .DELTA. K fatigue tests are performed in SS41 and its weldment. The LASER ISDG method is used in determination of crack opening ratio. This method is more precise than indirect measurement method, faster and easier than other direct measurement method. And obtained results are followed 1) Crack opening ratio U is proportional to fatigue crack growth rate da/dN at constant .DELTA. K 2) Fatigue crack growth rate da/dN in weldment increases in weld metal and heat affected zone, decreases in base metal as crack grows.

두개저의 크기, 형태 및 두부자세와 악안면구조의 위치적 상관관계 (THE CORRELATION BETWEEN CRANIAL BASE SIZE, SHAPE AND HEAD POSTURE, AND THE POSITION OF MAXILLO-FACIAL STRUCTURES)

  • 두개저의 크기, 형태 및 두부자세가 지니는 두개안면구조의 공간적 수평, 수직적 위치간의 상관성을 파악해 보고자 남자 51명, 여자 49명으로 구성된 표본으로부터 촬영된 100장의 측모 두부방사선사진을 이용, 12개의 계측항목과 37개의 기준점을 설정하고 계측항목에 대한 계측치와 기준점의 수평, 수직 위치를 산출한 다음,이들 간의 상관관계를 통계적으로 분석하였으며 계측항목에서 얻은 계측치의 크기가 크거나 작은 군을 각각 10개 표본씩으로 분류하여 mean facial diagram을 작성, 비교함으로서 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 두개저의 형태변수인 n-s-ba 및 n-s-ar각은 경추의 기준점 cv4ip, cv2ip, cv4tg 그리고 cv2ap의 수평, 수직적 위치 모두에 높은 통계적 유의성의 상관관계를 보였다($0.1\%$ 유의수준). 2. 두개저의 형태변수인 n-s-ba및 n-s-ar각은 안면구조에 있는 대부분의 기준점의 수평적 위치와 상관관계를 보였으나($1\%$ 유의수준), 수직적 위치는 통계적 유의성이 없었다($5\%$ 유의수준). 3. 두개저의 크기변수인 n-s, n-ba, n-ba및 n-ar의 크기는 두개안면구조내 기준점의 위치와 다양한 양상의 상관관계를 보였으나, 대체로 치아, 치조와 관련된 중안면구조의 수평, 수직적 위치와 상관관계가 높았다. 4. 두개저와 경추의 기울기가 이루는 자세변수인 NSL/CVT, NSL/OPT각은 두개안면구조내 기준점의 수평적 위치에 높은 상관성을 지니고 있었으며 통계학적 유의성이 인정되었으나($1\%$유의수준), 수직적 위치와는 통계적 유의성이 없었다($5\%$ 유의수준). 5. 진수평선(true horizontal line)과 경추의 기울기가 이루는 자세변수인 OPT/HOR 및 CVT/HOR각은 두개안면구조내 기준점의 수평, 수직적 위치 모두와 통계적으로 유의성이 인정되는 상관성을 보이지 않았다($5\%$ 유의수준). 6. 연조직에 존재하는 기준점의 수평, 수직적 위치는 모든 변수와의 상관성에서 대부분 경조직의 관련 기준점에 준하는 양상을 보였다.

  • For a vertical atmospheric aerosol distribution measurement, a very compact and light particle sampling package is developed. This package includes a compact optical particle counter (Hy-OPC), a light and small condensation particle counter (Hy-CPC), sensors (GPS, wind velocity, temperature, humidity), and a communication and system control board. This package is attached to He balloon and the altitude is controlled by a winch. Using this system the vertical particle size distribution was measured. The test results showed that the ground base atmospheric particle measurement result may be a lot different from that high above the ground.

  • Characterizing the electromagnetic properties of concrete is essential to the enhancement of accuracy and reliability in nondestructive testing of concrete structures using electromagnetic techniques. To establish a data base for the properties of concrete, a measurement technique has been developed and a set of data has been obtained for the frequency range of 1~6 GHz. As moisture content is one of major contributing factors to determine permittivity of dielectric material, moisture content is varied during the measurement. An application of a measurement system which consists of open-ended coaxial probe and automatic network analyzer to concrete and mortar specimens is studied. For this, calibration techniques, size of specimens, and number of measurements necessary to obtain reliable data are investigated. From the measured data, it is shown that moisture content plays an important role to determine the permittivity of specimens. As the moisture content increases. The permittivity of specimens show tendency to approach the permittivity of water.

  • Vertical particle size distribution, total particle concentration, wind velocity, temperature and humidity measurement was performed with a drone. The drone was equipped with a wind sensor, house-made optical particle count(Hy-OPC), condensation particle counter(Hy-CPC), GPS, Temperature, Relative Humidity, Pressure and communication system. Base on the wind velocity and the particle size vertical distribution measurement with drone, the particle mass flux was calculated. The vertical particle distribution showed that the particle number concentration was very strongly correlated with the relative humidity.

  • This paper presents mainly a procedure to get the mathematical form of the manufactured aspherical lens. Generally Schulz formula describes the aspherical lens profile. Therefore, the base curvature, conic constant. and high-order polynomial coefficient should be set to get the approximated design equation. To find the best-approximated aspherical form, lens profile is measured by a commercial stylus profiler, which has a sub-micrometer measurement resolution. The optimization tool is based on the minimization of the root mean square of error sum to get the estimated aspherical surface equation from the scanned aspherical profile. Error minimization step uses the Nelder-Mead simplex (direct search) method. The result of the lens refractive power measurement shows the experimental consistency with the curvature distribution of the best-approximated aspherical surface equation

Optimal WAMS Configuration in Nordic Power System

  • The Smart grids are considered as multi-disciplinary power systems where the communication networks are highly employed. This paper presents optimal wide area measurement system (WAMS) configuration in Nordic power system. The transition from SCADA to WAMS becomes now trend in all power systems to ensure higher reliability and data visibility. The optimization applied in this research considered the geographical regions of the Nordic power system. The research considered all the devices of WAMS namely phasor measurement units (PMUs), phasor data concentrators (PDCs) and communication links. The study also presents two scenarios for optimal WAMS namely base case and N-1 contingency as different operating conditions. The result of this research presents technical and financial results for WAMS configuration in a real power system. The optimization results are performed using MATLAB 2017a software application.

Platybasia in 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome Is Not Correlated with Speech Resonance

  • Background An abnormally obtuse cranial base angle, also known as platybasia, is a common finding in patients with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11DS). Platybasia increases the depth of the velopharynx and is therefore postulated to contribute to velopharyngeal dysfunction. Our objective was to determine the clinical significance of platybasia in 22q11DS by exploring the relationship between cranial base angles and speech resonance. Methods In this retrospective chart review at a tertiary hospital, 24 children (age, 4.0-13.1 years) with 22q11.2DS underwent speech assessments and lateral cephalograms, which allowed for the measurement of the cranial base angles. Results One patient (4%) had hyponasal resonance, 8 (33%) had normal resonance, 10 (42%) had hypernasal resonance on vowels only, and 5 (21%) had hypernasal resonance on both vowels and consonants. The mean cranial base angle was $136.5^{\circ}$ (standard deviation, $5.3^{\circ}$; range, $122.3-144.8^{\circ}$). The Kruskal-Wallis test showed no significant relationship between the resonance ratings and cranial base angles (P=0.242). Cranial base angles and speech ratings were not correlated (Spearman correlation=0.321, P=0.126). The group with hypernasal resonance had a significantly more obtuse mean cranial base angle ($138^{\circ}$ vs. $134^{\circ}$, P=0.049) but did not have a greater prevalence of platybasia (73% vs. 56%, P=0.412). Conclusions In this retrospective chart review of patients with 22q11DS, cranial base angles were not correlated with speech resonance. The clinical significance of platybasia remains unknown.

  • Various metallic materials are coated on Fe base materials via thermal spraying or welding process to improve both corrosion resistance as well as erosion resistance of the Fe base materials used in buildings and special works. The mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the coat are estimated by means of hardness measurement and anodic polarization test. In additions, the effect of alloying elements and microstructure of the coatings on the mechanical and chemical properties of the coat is investigated using X- ray diffraction, Optical microscope, Transmission electron microscopy and Auger analysis. The coating deposited by tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding exhibit a good combination of hardness and corrosion properties.
