  • The National Environmental Specimen Bank (NESB) has been collecting broad leave samples to monitor environmental pollution from five different designated sampling areas. In order to ensure the reproducibility and comparability of the results, all the procedures from selecting trees and pooling leaves to make the representative sample are defined in the standard operation procedures(the SOP). The representative samples were subjected to the chemical analyses for some heavy minerals and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons(PAHs). The uncertainty levels involved in each step of the SOP, that is, the sampling and the chemical analysis, were derived using the Robust ANOVA, which enables the relative comparison among the different levels of pollutants concentrations with confidence. Furthermore, the effect of the varying degrees of precipitation on the pollutants concentration of the leaves was also examined. Overall, the biological difference estimated from the duplicate samples was found to exceed the variation across the site, implying even aerial deposition over site. Samples from Gwanak Mt. showed highest heavy metal concentrations than the other sites. Washing off effect of the pollutants adhering in the form of particles on the leaf surface was found to be affected by the cumulative precipitation.

  • Antioxidants are food additives that extend the shelf life of food products by preventing lipid rancidity caused by active oxygen. They can either be naturally-derived or manufactured synthetically via chemical synthesis. In this study, method validation of five synthetic antioxidants, namely butylated hydroxyanisole, butylated hydroxytoluene, tertiary butylhydroquinone, propyl gallate, and disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, was performed using a high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet visible detector, and the method applicability was evaluated by analyzing foods containing antioxidants. The coefficient of determination (R2) average was 0.9997, while the limit of detection and limit of quantification were 0.02-0.53 and 0.07-1.61 mg/kg, respectively. The intra and inter-day accuracies and precisions were 83.2±0.7%-98.7±2.1% and 0.1%-5.7% RSD, respectively. Inter-laboratory validation for accuracy and precision was conducted using the Food Analysis Performance Assessment Scheme quality control material. The results satisfied the guidelines presented by the AOAC International. In addition, the expanded uncertainty was less than 16%, as recommended by CODEX. Consequently, to enhance public health safety, the results of this study can be used as basis data for evaluating the intake of synthetic antioxidants and assessing their risks in Korea.

  • A survey of zearalenone contamination was conducted on cereal-based products by using an immunoaffinity column with LC-MS/MS. The calibration curve showed good lineality, with correlation coefficients ($R^2$) of 0.999 in the concentration range from 1 to 250 ng/mL. The limits of detection and quantification were approximately $0.3{\mu}g/kg$ and $1.0{\mu}g/kg$, respectively. The recoveries in the barley tea, Misutgaru and snack ranged from 73.6-107.8%. Zearalenone was detected in 10 samples (11.2% incidence). The highest zearalenone contamination level was $29.7{\mu}g/kg$ in the Misutgaru. This survey was conducted with uncertainty of measurement. The expanded uncertainty for zearalenone was estimated to be $44.9{\pm}5.0{\mu}g/kg$ (k=2, 95% confidence level) and $128.7{\pm}7.9{\mu}g/kg$ (k=2, 95% confidence level) for barley tea, $30.7{\pm}5.8{\mu}g/kg$ (k=2, 95% confidence level) and $173.7{\pm}14.9{\mu}g/kg$ (k=2.26, 95% confidence level) for Misutgaru, and $37.2{\pm}7.4{\mu}g/kg$ (k=2.31, 95% confidence level) and $151.0{\pm}10.4{\mu}g/kg$ (k=2, 95% confidence level) snack at the level of $41.7{\mu}g/kg$ and $166.7{\mu}g/kg$, respectively.

  • Hydrogen analysis by elastic recoil detection has been performed utilizing polyimide film as a reference sample of known hydrogen content assuming the soundness of ion beam current integration. However beam current integration at higher incidence angle is not reliable. Scattering yield per unit fluence by current integration which is normalized per unit path length decreases as the sample tilt angle is getting higher. Moreover because beam current integration at high tilt angle is incomplete, hydrogen evaluation is very risky by direct comparison of sequentially collected recoil spectra between reference and target sample. In this study, primary ion beam dose is determined by backscattering spectrum that is collected simultaneously with recoil spectrum instead of ion beam current integration in order to reduce uncertainty arising in the process of current integration and to enhance the reliability of quantitative analysis. Three test samples are selected $-7.6{\mu}m$ polyimide film, hydrogen implanted silicondioxide and Au deposited carbon wafer- and analyzed by two methods and compared.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze job stress factors of hospital workers, which has an effect on their turnover intention. For identifying the influences on turnover intention, types of hospitals (university hospital, general hospital, private hospital) and types of workers(office workers, technical workers, and nursing staffs) were categorized. We went to the hospitals and carried out the survey under the cooperation with the concerned hospitals. The period of survey was from 23. Sep. 2013 to 30. Oct. 2013, and 293 worker participated in the survey. On the basis of the previous study, the measurement of job stress factors and turnover intention was set up as the survey method, and its reliability and validity were measured. The stress factors were subdivided into seven factors; occupational climate, organizational system, autonomy job control, uncertainty of getting a new job, job ability to perform, job demand, job ambiance. The value of job stress factors by the measuring instrument, Cronbach's Alpha, was 0.805 and the value of the subordination variable of turnover intention was 0.881. IBM SPSS Statistics 21 was used as the statistic analysis tool and the descriptive statistics about job stress factors. As a result, the turnover intention were analyzed depending on the types of hospitals, job groups, working years, and gender. Result shows that the job stress factors are differed according to the types of hospitals, and these job stress factors have influence on turnover intention. Therefore, it could be considered that, if the hospital managers find out the major job stress factors of their employees and resolve them in advance, the job stress of the hospital workers and their turnover intention can be reduced.

  • This paper considers experimental and numerical studies on added resistance in waves. As the numerical methods, three different methods, strip method, Rankine panel method and Cartesian-grid method, are applied. The computational results of vertical motion response and added resistance are compared with the experimental data of Series 60($C_B=0.8$) hull, S175 containership and KVLCC2 hull. To investigate the influence of above-still water hull form, a Rankine panel method is extended to two nonlinear methods: weakly-nonlinear and weak-scatterer approaches. As nonlinear computational models, three ships are considered: original KVLCC2 hull, 'Ax-bow' and 'Leadge-bow' hulls. Two of the three models are modified hull forms of original KVLCC2 hull, aiming the reduction of added resistance. The nonlinear computational results are compared with linear results, and the improvement of computational result is discussed. As experimental approach, a series of towing-tank experiment for ship motions and added resistance on the three models (original KVLCC2 hull, 'Ax-bow' and 'Leadge-bow') are carried out. For the original KVLCC2 hull, uncertainty analysis in the measurement of vertical motion response and added resistance is performed in three waves conditions: ${\lambda}/L=0.5$, 1.1, 2.0. From the experimental results, the effects of hull form on added resistance are discussed.

  • Intangibility, measurement difficulty and irreversibility, which are the characteristics of service, have such problems as obscurity and uncertainty in quality evaluation. Technical entrepreneurship education, a sort of public service, also contains such characteristics of service. To objectively evaluate the service quality of technical entrepreneurship education, this paper drew up factors as hierarchical structure, centered on FAHP technique, and conducted pre-processing, inputted those factors into triangular fuzzy number fuzzy judgement matrix, and calculated their weights. In this manner, this paper proposed a TESE system, through which an analysis can be conducted by drawing relative importance and priorities of the factors. The proposed system can efficiently evaluate the qualitative technical start-up education service quality factors quantitatively in the diversely changing technical start-up environment in view of the highest result quality (41%), which means performance in the relative importance of major factors. Namely, this paper confirmed that clear decision making can be made through an experiment.

  • To properly assess air pollution levels, application of quality assurance and quality control(QA/QC) is believed to be an essential step. In order to cope with such scientific principle, a field study was designed with an aim of comparing: 1) the methods of calibration for airborne pollutants and 2) the protocols developed for their measurements. Measurements were made at Han Yang University, Seoul during 29 May through 1 June 1998 under the management of the Division of Measurements and Analysis(DMA) of Korean Society for Atmospheric Environment(KOSAE). In this work, we report our results of intercomparative measurements on several gaseous criteria pollutants that were investigated mainly by the two institutes-Seoul National University(SNU) and the Korean Research Institute for Standards and Science(KRISS). Although measurements of major gaseous pollutants had been made routinely by many scientific institutes and organizations in Korea, most scientists involved in those studieswere obliged to do their experiments on the basis of their own procedural steps spaning from the preparation of gaseous standards to the methodological selections for the calibration. Hence, this campaign offered a unique opportunity to examine many important aspects on the measurements of these important gaseous pollutants. In the course of our study, we investigated the compatibility of data sets obtained by the two institutes in concert with reference data sets collected concurrently from a government-managed monitoring station. On the basis of our study, we conclude that different data sets made by different participants during this campaign agree well within the reasonable range of uncertainties.low, which indicated that during this period the potential acidity of precipitation was high but the neutralizing capacity was low. For Spring, pAi was very low but pH was slightly high. This was likely due to the large amount of $CaCO_3$ in the soil particles transported over a long range from the Chinese continent that were incorporated into the precipitation, and then neutralized the acidifying species with its high concentraton.

  • In korea, TMDL is being implemented to manage nonpoint pollution sources as well as point pollution sources. LDC is being used for the planning of TMDL. In order to analyze the water quality using LDC, it is necessary to prepare FDC using the daily flow data. However, only the daily flow data is measured at the WAMIS branch, and 8days flow data and water quality data are measured at the monitoring Networks. So, in many researches, the water quality is being grasped by deriving the LDC using the 8days flow or the daily flow obtained by various methods. These fluctuations may lead to differences in determining whether the target load is achieved. In this study, each LDC was prepared using the 8day flow and the related daily flow. Then, the effect using different flow data on the achievement of target load was compared according to flow conditions. As a result, the difference ratio in the number of overloads under flow condition was showed 19% in high flows, 42% in moist conditions, 49% in mid-range flows, 41% in dry conditions, and 104% in low flows. In the top ten watershed with the highest difference ratio, the flow became lower the difference ration increases. These differences can cause uncertainty in assessing the achievement of target load using LDC. Therefore, in order to evaluate the water quality accurately and reliably using LDC, accurate daily flow data and water quality data should be secured through the installation of national nonpoint measurement network.

  • The reliability of a water meter for measuring the water flow-rate and subsequent analysis of the measured water depends on the accuracy of measurement. The under registration of a water meter causes many problems for operators, such as loss in revenue and a decrease in the rate of measured water. The purpose of this study is to support and development core technology, such as efficient operations management and adoption of the best mechanism for providing different services by experimentally. In this study, experiments were conducted using water meters with different diameters, manufacturers, years of usage and the specific uses. On the basis of the results, the water meter confirmed that the error of minimum flow rate which will use long becomes larger more in the direction of minus.
